Sir Ridley Scott's upcoming science fiction movie The Martian holds great potential to be one of the most emotional and epic tales of survival and one's desire to overcome overwhelming adversity. If the narrative is woven correctly and Scott uses his directorial talent to play with the audiences expectations and heartstrings, The Martian could stand alongside recent movies such as Moon and Castaway, but on a grander scale with greater visual impact. Of course there is also the possibility that the movie could be a by-the-numbers bleak tale of loneliness with stereotypical characters, overlaiden with sad music in an attempt to solicit a cheap emotional response.
The Martian lands in theatres October 2nd, 2015.
