When it comes to adapting a superhero for the big or small screen the usual, tried and tested route is to begin with the origins of the hero; be itan infant Kal-El being launched from a dying Krypton, Peter Parker being bitten by 'the' spider, Dr. Banner being exposed to Gamma radiation, Hal Jordan discovering a crashed spaceship etc. Yet one origin story was not really seen until the release of Christopher Nolans first instalment in what would become a celebrated trilogy, with 2005's Batman Begins. Though we knew of the death of Bruce Waynes parents, Thomas and Martha, how exactly the orphaned rich youngster had become the Dark Knight had never been seen on screen, as all previous adaptations had started with the Batman already prowling the streets of Gotham.
Batman Begins, however gave us but a small peak into the history of Gotham and the boy that would one day become its protector. To really delve into the history of the Dark Detective and why he was needed in Gotham City the franchise had to expand into a TV serial. Thankfully FOX and Warner Bros. agreed and have gathered together a truly awesome cast for their forthcoming TV serial, Gotham. A series that on paper holds great promise of becoming the TV series of the decade, and from the look of the full length teaser of the pilot episode (below) Gotham looks set to exceed expectations...
