Due to the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus, the upcoming 25th installment in the James Bond franchise No Time to Die has been delayed until November 25th in the United States. This move now pits the film directly against Godzilla vs. Kong, which releases the week before it on November 20th.

With this announcement, it now seems that two of the largest film franchises in history (Godzilla and Bond) will "battle" each other at the box office this coming fall. Are you excited for this new challenge, or do you hope that Godzilla vs. Kong changes to a more suitable release date?

Well, this could pose pretty godd competition if most people didn't notice the wokeness in the trailer... I'm okay with the Monsterverse ending with Godzilla vs Kong though. I think the Monsterverse kinda fell apart/became inconsistent with KOTM/Michael Dougherty.

Moldovan0731 I mean, the MonsterVerse didn't really have a singular set tone between the first two movies, so there's that.

Offhand, I'd like for the MonsterVerse to continue, because I feel like there's a lot of room for stories to tell in it. But if GvK goes the way I think it will, then I can see it as a good end-point from a narrative angle.

I'm dying laughing, because you have to appreciate the irony. China, once the Monsterverse's glowing ray of hope, is now a pain in the ass due to the coronavirus forcing studios to shuffle release schedules.

It would be best for the movie to just be released in 2021 now, but Legendary/WB would have to get that okayed by Toho based off what Shinji Higuchi said about their deal.

The release schedule was already pretty tight, but now there's no likelihood GvK could do well in November. WB will probably move it again, I'm sure, but the question is where.

We just can't catch a break, can we?

I would say 2021 would probably be a good idea at this point, even if it still has no chance of outcompeting whatever it goes up against then at least it will have some breathing room.

Let's not be too pessimistic. Or optimistic, depending on how you view this movie. Who knows? Maybe things'll have improved by the time November rolls around.

It'll have to move again for there to be a prayer of breaking even.

G fans will get pretty upset over this, whether it be the movie bombing at the box office or getting pushed back to 2021 due to NTtD (and there's a 99% chance that one of those will happen). This could be New Mutants all over again, lol.

Oh, for f*ck's sake, and how could we know if there'll be anything to give it a similar level of competition in early 2021?

Such a shame I was looking forward to No Time to Die next month so much but I understand the reasoning behind the delay.

Also it's amusing to see two of the longest running franchises, Godzilla and Bond,  sharing the same release month. I'm not sure that's happened before but again, amusing.  I've also found the two had very similar trajectories in their evolution and became very reflective of their eras.

Godzilla vs Kong was going to face an uphill battle regardless of what was placed around it, mostly because of expectations that come from the title alone. Even if it still had the March date the virus situation might have done considerable damage to it so if they decide to move GvK again I'll understand.

I hope it turns out well for both films and i will be there day 1 for both.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves people and stay safe.

Lol. Sure, why not?

GvK can't keep running away from the competition. I thought late November was a mistake from the very beginning, but its set now and I don't see it moving again. I think this move will hurt Bond more than GvK simply because Bond would have crushed in April.

October 20 would leave 18 days for Venom 2 and 16 days for Godzilla vs Kong before the Eternals for frontload audiences.

im a bit torn on this debacle, on one side, you got two franchises with a long track record (altho Bond would be longer due to Fleming stories being from the 40s), but on the other, there is a posibility of GvK being overshadowed

Altho Spectre wasn't exactly as warmly received as something like say Skyfall or Goldeneye (mostly due to the giant plot holes and retcons regarding Retcon Boi AKA Blofeld, that affect Casino, Quantum and Skyfall plots )

Both can end up overshadowing the other, either because of the internet making another Birds of Prey VS Sonic thing with these two (Making GvK big while attacking NTTD using the controversies it had even before the first trailer released)

Or some random factor that makes Bond shine more in the eyes of the public
