Following the recent announcement that Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II), will be co-writing and directing Ghostbusters 3, and the predictable misandric outbursts from Ghostbusters: Answer the Call star Leslie Jones and director Paul Feig following the aforementioned announcement most fans have been looking forward to news on the long-awaited sequel. The hopes of the fandom are that the surviving stars of the original movies would return to pass the "proton packs" onto a new younger generation of "Busters", as per reports prior to Feig's toxic reboot.
Unfortunately, the apparent victory long-term fans of Ghostbusters have been celebrating following the announcement of Ghostbusters 3 is slowly unraveling. Firstly, we have the recent statement from long-time Ghostbusters 3 supporter and co-star of the original movies, Ernie Hudson, that he has not yet been approached to star in the forthcoming sequel (see video below).
Secondly, we have news from HN Entertainment (see video below) that reports that the new team will be a group of 12-13-year-old children, instead of the late-teen/early-twenty somethings that have been speculated by fans.
For many commentators, this recent announcement of a child heavy leading cast is heavily reminiscent of the child leading stars of Stanger Things when they donned the Ghostbusters uniforms (pictured below).
Unsurprisingly the news that the original cast may not return and that the new team of Ghostbusters will be young children has been met with disdain, with many fans (this one included) feeling as though the Ghostbusters 3 we have been waiting for so long for has been robbed from us at the eleventh hour, yet again.
