Following the commercial and critical success they have garnered from the Planet of the Apes prequel movies, Rise and Dawn, 20th Century Fox are planning on reviving another science fiction franchise from their catalogue with a remake of the cult classic Alien Nation. The original movie starring James Caan told of an alien race known as Newcomers living alongside humans in a present day setting and was so successful it spawned a TV series, TV movies a series of novels and even a comic book line. Alien nation is most noted for using its sci-fi setting to explore the issues of racial seggregation and equality.
According to THR the new, presumably edgier movie will tell of why and how the Newcomers came to live on Earth, and will be written by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. There is no news yet regarding a director or the cast, or whether Gale Anne Hurd, producer of the original movie, will produce the new movie and its possible sequels!
