In the original Generation 1 cartoon of Transformers Autobots Ratchet and Wheeljack originally constructed from spare parts the three original Dino-Bots - Grimlock, Sludge and Slag (Slug's original name). Snarl and Swoop were added to the DinoBots while the original three temporarily sided with the Decepticons.
