After director Tim Burtons failed attempt to reboot the Planet of the Apes franchise failed in 2001, many viewed the prospect of a second attempt as a fools errand. Yet a mere 10 years later practically unheard of director Ruper Wyatt not only delivered but delivered a powerful, moving story in which the audience routed for the apes instead of the humans during the uprising as part of the movies climax. We, the audience, associated with Caesar, felt his pain, his frustration, his rise.
Although director Matt Reeves' track record with Cloverfield has some worried others are giving him the benefit-of-the doubt, in the hopes that he can deliver a sequel with at least half the impact of its predecessor.
