Although there is some deviation, most fans and critics consider The Empire Strikes Back as the greatest movie in the Star Wars saga, followed closely by A New Hope, and then Return of the Jedi. The prequels generally follow in reverse order, with Revenge of the Sith tailing Jedi, and The Phantom Menace coming in last place.
Following last nights premiere in Los Angeles (included above) for the newest episode; The Force Awakens, critics have been unsurprsingly embargoed against posting their full reviews until this weekend, but many of them have used the popular social network platform Twitter to air their first impressions.
Thankfully, with the exception of the ever overtly critical Devin Faraci, most critics love the movie, with the general consensus being that director J. J. Abrams addition to the Star Wars Saga is the third best in the series, beating its 1983 predecessor; Return of the Jedi...
Not going to say much till I see it again but rest assured THE FORCE AWAKENS is the best STAR WARS since 1983...maybe 1980.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is a strong, promising kickoff. As a standalone, I'd rank it #3 in the series.

Awesome. The Force has indeed awakened. I can't wait for what comes next. #StarWarsForceAwakens

THE FORCE AWAKENS proves JJ Abrams is an auteur: once again we have great characters, propulsive fun, sort of shitty, dumb story.

C'mon Devin, even slashfilm's infamous Scrooge Peter Sciretta praised the movie. While we may have to wait until this weekend for more detailed reviews and opinions it's looking as though the sequel trilogy is good hands.
