Batman: Arkham Knight will be the final game in the Arkham series (Asylum, City and Origins) and sees the return of British developer Rocksteady Studios (Aslyum and City). Set one year after the events of City in which Batman foiled Hugo Strange's attempt to wipe out the inmates of the prison he'd created covering the whole district of Arkham; Arkham Knight sees the return of the Scarecrow, as foretold in the last installment, whom is holding the city of Gotham to ransom with the assistance of fellow villains Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn. Heres the recent trailer...
The game is set for release October 14th and will be released for the X-Box One, Playstation 4 and PC, which is a knock for last-gen (X-Box 360, PS3) fans of the series that have enjoyed this franchise and supported it. The game will feature the trademark predator gameplay and group combat gameplay that has become a staple of the franchise, with a new, and welcome addition in the ability to actually drive the awesome looking Batmobile (pictured below), which looks like a cross between the Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan Batmobiles. Rocksteady have even widened the streets of Gotham to accomodate vehicle!
In addition to the return of the challenge maps, the game is also said to allow the player control of Harley Quinn (via pre-order DLC, of course), and will also feature a new character created by both DC and Rocksteady Studios; called the Arkham Knight, though whether or not this character will be playable is not known.
As a fan of the series and having completed Asylum, City and Origns, I have high hopes for this game, and the return of Rocksteady supports my hopes. But I am somewhat disgruntled that the game doesn't appear to be coming out for the last-gen consoles where this franchise actually enjoyed its success - surely the final game in the series should be released on the same systems as its predeccessors, thus completing the collection.
The trailer, though very stylish and cinematic doesn't show any in-game footage of the game actually being played. Though the game is still 8 months away from release, hardcore fans of the franchise can only really judge the game based on the combat, predator and swooping gameplay we all know and love. So for now I will reserve judgment until I see more of the actual game, but my fingers are well and truely crossed for a truly awesome game! I have only 3 more words for you all...
