Entertainment Weekly have revealed a new batch of still from Captain Marvel, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film which opens on March 8, 2019. The images give us our first official look at Captain Marvel herself, played by Oscar winner Brie Larson, as well as a digitally de-aged Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, with both of his eyes intact.
In addition to Larson and Jackson, we can also see that Ronan the Accuser, who was played by Lee Pace in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, will be showing up in the film, alongside Jude Law in a currently unspecified role, although he appears to be wearing a uniform identical to the one worn by Larson in the previously leaked set photos, implying that he will also be playing a super-powered character.
We’ve also known for some time that Captain Marvel will finally introduce the aliens known as the Skrulls into the MCU, and fans will be pleased to see that they look pretty much identical to how they look in the comics, right down to the signature ridges on their chins. Because the Skulls have the ability to shapeshift, we can probably expect to see them taking on a multitude of forms throughout the film as they attempt to conquer Earth.
Captain Marvel is directed by the duo behind Half Nelson, It's Kind of a Funny Story, and Mississippi Grind. Given the MCU’s winning streak over the last several years, it probably won’t be much of an assumption to say that it will be a huge hit.
