Could it finally be happening? Could an open world Star Wars game finally be in development? It would seem that behind the scenes, Disney and EA are indeed planning some form of open world project for their Star Wars property, complete with "online features". This news was picked up on following a recent job posting by EA on their job site, where they publicly announced that they are currently in need of a "Lead Online Engineer" who can provide "online features for a Star Wars open-world project".
Last year EA shut down Visceral Games - a development studio who, at the time, were already hard at work on a single-player driven Star Wars title. Upon EA's decision to restructure their focus from single-player campaigns to online environments, the project was essentially shut down with the studio. However, it would appear with this new job posting, EA have not completely abandoned the untitled Star Wars project and are instead adopting it to a new, open world platform. Just imagine, an open world Star Wars game that functions like Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto title, with an online option similar to GTA Online! As new details surface regarding this project, we'll be sure to keep you updated!
