With filming set to begin on the Prometheus sequel, Alien: Paradise Lost in January/February of the new year, it's surpising to hear that script revisions may be happening. According to a new report from Variety, Ridley Scott is currently working with well-respected screenwriter John Logan, who is known for writing such films as Skyfall as well as the most recent Spectre; both of which have received massive critical acclaim.

Variety reports: “Following that double-whammy, it was 30 years before Scott tried his hand at sci-fi again, though he now seems firmly re-entrenched in the zone. “Prometheus,” 2012’s oblique prequel to “Alien,” returned him to the extraterrestrial territory he revisits in “The Martian,” while he and scribe John Logan are revising the script for an as-yet-untitled “Prometheus” sequel — inspired, he says, by Milton’s epic poem “Paradise Lost” — set to start rolling in February.”

Why the author of the article forgot that Prometheus 2 has already been titled Alien: Paradise Lost by Ridley Scott himself back in September is unknown - it's unlikely they'll be changing the title of the film this close to their projected filming start date. Although, anything is possible, considering the relatively unanimous backlash the new title received from the Prometheus fan base. Fans insist that the new series keep with the "Promethean" title credits to signify its departure from the closed-off Alien series. Whether Scott and company have taken their opinions to heart has yet to be officially announced.

Prometheus 2 Officially Titled Alien: Paradise Lost!

Titles aside, it would seem the Prometheus sequel is getting some final tweaks, which may throw off some of the information we recently shared with readers, as well as the bombshell article we're preparing to share tomorrow. From what I've seen and read so far though, I hope they don't change too much...

Check back tomorrow for the second entry in our Discovering Alien: Paradise Lost series - we've got exlcusive information regarding the new "monsters" Scott has created for the sequel as well as a clue to their origins. Very exciting times ahead, so don't miss out!

This is interesting news...... i have been busy the past 2 weeks but should be back to being able to contribute more the weekend.

What does this mean for the Original Plans for the Movie and Franchise and shooting dates, who knows... but the Draft as of October 2014 does not feature Ripley or any links to this at all........   I wander if the Re-writting by John Logan is so that the movie has more ties to Alien Franchise and to include links to Ripley that Ridley Scott recently sugested it has.....

And i wander if Alien 5 is on back burner because some of the Elements that cross over or ideas that cover stuff maybe they would have liked to have covered within a sequel or two to Prometheus are things they do not want covered in a Alien 5 and so they wish to lay the foundations for any Alien Origins and LV 426/223 links and what has become of the Engineers and their Tech and what the company could get its hands on as of at the end of Aliens... maybe Alien 5 touched on a few ideas that they wanted to not be covered in a Alien movie?

I have a feeling they are trying to cross breed the ideas for Prometheus 2 and 3, and Blomkamps continuation of Aliens into a set of movies that can cross over and fit in Ripley into the whole Franchise....

I had big hopes for the sequels to Prometheus and seemed some interesting things that could be explored and seemed like they are... i hope we are not going to see things scraped and tonned down a bit just so the next movies can tie in with Alien, Aliens and a new sequel and RIPLEY....

Because the Franchise is bigger than the Alien and nevermind Ripley!

Question is "What is the inspiration behind the revision?", something new...something interesting perhaps.  Definitley BiG DaVe, I also smell Alien 5...simmering!  Sometimes you got to let the food simmer before adding new ingredients. It has yet to be seen if it will be served as the main dish or for desert!

Bringing in a new writer (number three so far) suggests more that just a few tweaks. Something must be seriously lacking that the previous writer couldn't fix. Sometimes new writers are brought-in to "punch-up" movie scripts, without changing plot elements. Perhaps some issue came forward with test readings among the actors.  If filming is set to start in a few months, then this would be the time of screen tests and other pre-production elements involving some of the actors reading through the script. At this late stage I would hope Fox is not forcing Ridley to make changes in the story direction.

I'm sure everyone is very keen to knock this one out of the park, so I imagine this is about punching up, or maybe settling continuity issues with the upcoming stories. I do hope too that Fox isn't meddling.

Big Dave, I couldn't agree more, leave Ripley out of it! I don't even need an oblique connection, I know her story already. And on that note:

I can't believe all the hostility on the internet about Alien 5 being 'shelved' so big bad Ridley can have his way. Has anyone considered the possibility that Blomkamp's and (to a lesser extent) Sigourney's hype had little substance behind it? Who would actually hand the Alien legacy to the director of Chappie, at least not with some much more accomplished minders (like that awful selfish Ridley, boo-boo) to hold his hand?

If Ridley had anything to do with Alien 5 being put on hold then good, I'd trust his judgement over Blomkamp's any day.
