Hollywood has been undergoing a metamorphosis of sorts over the last few years. As the demand for quality comedies wanes and superhero movies seem to be losing their luster, it's the Sci-Fi genre that continues to pick up steam. This movement is fully supported by the amount of money streaming services like Apple and Netflix are throwing at Sci-Fi shows in 2023-2024.

While there are dozens of shows from which to choose, there are five (5) new Sci-Fi shows that are drawing quite a bit of attention. This would make them the frontrunners of Sci-Fi shows to watch for in 2024. Let's take a look at these entries.

1. Constellation - Apple TV

Jo, an American astronaut (played by Noomi Rapace), is forced to return to Earth after a space disaster puts her in harm's way. After returning home, she soon discovers that some things in her life are not as they were when she left for space. In a quest to find the missing pieces, she is forced into a psycho-drama that leads her into the dark history of space travel. Along the way, she is faced with the forces that have been manipulating her mind for years. Can she find the way back to her life and the daughter that needs her desperately? Can she expose the truth about space travel? Only time will tell.

The show is scheduled for release on Apple TV+ on February 21, 2024.

2. Fallout - Amazon Prime

In 2077, a nuclear war devastates a good part of the world's population. Among the survivors were folks with a 50s mindset that led them to create bomb shelters during the Cold War between the U.S. and Russia. Who knew those bomb shelters would be needed and would eventually save lives?

What's left from the "Fallout" of nuclear war is robots, mutants, and two groups of surviving humans. The two groups are made up of the haves and have-nots who are forced to battle one another for the meager resources that remain on planet Earth. Along the way, weird encounters with strange beings occur with the humans led by a militant group called "The Brotherhood of Steel".

This Sci-Fi entry is based on a highly popular series of video games that carry the show's title. The show is scheduled for release on April 12, 2024, by Amazon Prime.

3. 3 Body Problem - Netflix

In the 1960s, a young Chinese woman inadvertently makes a fateful decision that violates the sanctity of time and space as well as the laws of nature. As a result, a group of scientists must come together to wage war against what are considered the greatest threats to humanity. Along the way, they will encounter technologically superior aliens who mean great harm to the planet. Over time, the war for the salvation of humanity will intensify to the point of no return.

This Sci-Fi entry is based on Liu Cixin’s The 3 Body Problem trilogy. Leading the production team is BigHead Little Head Production company of "Game of Thrones" fame. The show is currently slated for release on March 21, 2024, with 30 episodes in the works.

4. Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas - Netflix [Animated]

In an interesting twist, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas serves as a prequel for the soon-to-be-released "Army of the Dead 2," a highly anticipated sequel to the highly successful "Army of the Dead," presented by Netflix in 2021.

This animated series chronicles the sequence of events that led to the initial zombie breakout that took place in Las Vegas. Sorry, you won’t find any free chip no deposit bonuses in this series! The main character is Zeus (Richard Cetrone), the first individual afflicted with the zombie virus. After a daring escape from captivity, he scours the city of Las Vegas and spreads the virus. The only obstacle he and his kind will face along the way is the uninfected who fight with fervor to protect their homes and families.

This 6-episode animated Sci-Fi show is tentatively scheduled for release in late spring or early summer on Netflix.

5. Dune: Prophecy - MAX

This is yet another 2024 Sci-Fi entry that will serve as a prequel to another movie. That movie was the 2021 Denis Villeneuve film Dune.

The story begins 10,000 years in the past with the rise of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. To ensure the sisterhood's survival, the female members undergo intense physical and psychological training to obtain super-human capabilities. The group is led by sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen who join forces with others to wage war against other groups and entities that threaten the welfare of humanity into the future.

At this point, Max has not yet set a release date. However, the most recent indications are the show will be released in early fall 2024.
