Mad Max Fury Road Hits theatres May 15th, and if the recent bombardment of trailers is anything to go by Mad Max fans are going to be in for one hell of a ride. But for those of you still on the fence as to whether or not this movie, heralded as director George Millers true vision of the future he created, is worth watching, we here at Scified have listed ten reasons why you should not only watch this movie but go crazy for it...
Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky
British movie star Tom Hardy first claim to fame was winning a modelling competition on the UK Channel 4 show The Big Breakfast in 1998. Normally such prize winners disappear into the depths of obscurity, never to be hear from again. Hardy dropped out of modelling and became an actor. Three years later he landed roles in Band of Brothers and Back Hawk Down, and the following year starred opposite Patrick Stewart in Star Trek Nemesis. Since then Hardy's career has steadily escalated appearing in Layer Cake, Sweeney Todd, RocknRolla, Bronson, Inception, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and of course as super villain Bane in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. Hardy will replace former star Mel Gibson in the movies title role, with both Gibson's and director George Millers praise and acclaim,in this and a possible three more movies.
Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa
Star of 2012 controversial Alien prequel Prometheus, South African actress Charlize Theron is currently one of the most desirable women in Hollywood. Theron fired her manager, John Crosby, when he frequently forwarded her scripts for exploitation-esque movies similar to Striptease and Species, which would have turned Theron into a big screen sex siren, refusing to accept such roles and instead be taken seriously as an actress. Theron is also the founder of CTAOP, a charity that was established 2007 to help keep African youth safe from HIV/AIDS.
Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe
Hugh Keays-Byrne is a close friend of director and writer of the Mad Max franchise George Miller, and starred as the villain Toecutter in 1979 original. A character performer, Indian born Keays-Byrne may also be recognizable to science fiction fans for his portrayal of black market trader and swindler Grunchlk in the cult classic TV serial Farscape.
Nicholas Hoult as Nux
British actor Nicholas Hoult is a rising star in Hollywood thanks to his plethora of supporting roles in highly successful movies such as the recent Daniel Craig James Bond films as technician and inventor Q, the prequel X-Men movies as Dr. Hank McCoy aka Beast, and as the zombie R in the romantic comedy Warm Bodies.
Legendary Director George Miller
A former doctor, George Miller is best known for being the writer, director and producer of the Mad Max movies, yet he has also enjoyed recent success with both Babe movies and the two Happy Feet movies. Miller was also involved heavily in the production of notable movies such as Witches of Eastwick, Dead Calm and Lorenzo's Oil, usually within the capacity of writer, producer and/or director.
Junkie XL's Score
Dutch Multi-instrumentalist, composer and music artist Tom Holkenborg has composed and co-composed musical scores for movies such as Resident Evil, The Dark Knight Rises, Man of steel and next years Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well frequently working with Dreamworks Animation on the score for animated features such as Shark Tale, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Madagascar 3.
The MFP Interceptor
Mad Max's iconic car, the MFP Interceptor also known as the Pursuit Special makes a welcome return in Mad Max Fury Road. Initially rolled over by the War Boys when they capture Max, a modified version of the car is later used as part the epic cross-country car chase. The original car, formerly a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe can reportedly be found in the Dezer Car Museum in Miami, Florida.
Its a Wild World
In most of the dystopian movies that have followed the 0riginal Mad Max movie, the future has usually come about through some post apocalyptic means, such as thermonuclear war (Terminator), a deadly virus (I am legend), or an invasion of alien origin (Oblivion). George Millers vision of a dystopian future and how it came to be is more low key, and more realistic – when the fuel and energy crisis hits breaking point law, order and civilisation fall apart. Those left to survive have either gone mad, follow the madness or defend themselves from the madness.
All In The Chase
What made the first Mad Max movie and its sequel the Road Warrior such cult classic hits were both the vision of a crazy dystopian future (mentioned above) and their well choreographed car chase scenes and stunts. In between production of the two cult classics, director George Millers skill was recognized when he directed the car chase scenes for the 1980 movie The Chain Reaction, directed by Ian Barry.
Divine Intervention
Mad Max: Fury Road relies on old fashioned practical effects in an era of film-making when digital effects are becoming ever more commonplace. While director George Miller has relied upon the art that has made him famous he as also recognized that the new technologies that have since become widely available to film-makers have their place; instead of using CGI to enhance any of the movies many stunts and/or chase sequences with digital replacements, Miller has instead used the technology where it is best suited – to create an awe-inspiring sand storm, the likes of which have never been seen on the big screen, and of which Max, Furiosa, Nux and their companions must race through as Immortan Joe and his War Boys pursue them.
