Well, it's good to hear RS will kick his feet up with some beers again. He should just push forward.

Love Ridley Scott!

I am not sure I approve of the brash side of RS.

"I'd say 'Go f*ck yourself', and then I'd say, 'Go f*ck yourself' again,".

The bad boy of cinema maybe? Constructively I think RBW lacks good continuity between specific shots....and is lacking in special effects in some to the point it is just something that does not fit together in the whole of the larger production.....For example in many of the shots it looks like there are just too many things from the 20th century....Almost if you filmed a near future science fiction film and the entire landscape was filled with things from the late 1800's everywhere. When you see movies about the 1980's you do not see things from the 1700's everywhere either.

Things always change....clothes, shoes, housing, transportation, buildings....so I am not sure why he is saying that RBW is a master-piece....it is not....it has quite a bit of merit; however, there are parts of it that HBO just did not have the money to film...so you don't give an artist like this a canvas with just a couple of colors to paint with and very few brushes....RS makes quarter billion dollar productions, some of RBW looks like it was filmed by first year movie students....you all know what these low budget productions look like on youtube....there are thousands of them. They are about 5 to 10 minutes usually and you forget about the even quicker.

Not sure what he is getting on about really - there are thousands of critics who really really really appreciate great productions; however, the majority of them said the exact same thing that I just did about RBW....he should be more open to criticism and move on to bigger and better things.

If he will sink that low then I can say fuck you for fucking up the prequels with your android-bullshit. Raised By Wolves seems to be plagued with the same thing so that’s why I won't bother to watch it.

As far as don't getting it, maybe they do but that they don't like it. It's about personal tastes, just because he likes what he has done (which he should) doesn't mean that everyone else are required to do so. I would rather see action-stuff rather than some fingering android. That doesn't mean that an action-movie or rather a movie with much action can't be interesting. The Matrix (first movie) is an example of that.

“Two androids are sent into space with children”

Androids this and androids that, booring, add to that lame characters as far as I have read in reviews at least and you get something that I won't bother to watch.

Roger G: Interesting post but can you divide it into paragraphs? It will get easier to read that way.

Great post! could not have said it better. I like some of the special effects and that is about it. The show looks like a rough draft of sorts cobbled together very loosely with some rather fine special effects; but, only in specific shots. Otherwise the performances are terrible and just go in a circle chasing nonsense who dune it kind of little mysteries.

RBW is just not that interesting nor is it fun to watch.

I've tried to get through a couple of eps...Husband hates RBW, can't stand it.

That's saying a lot as he's one of the most open-minded people I know.

Frankly, RBW just isn't for me. Other people might like it/hate it...I'm just finding nothing in it I can grab onto.

@Blackwinter-witch What do you think RBW is missing? I see continuity mistakes in the development of the story and flaws. This is a lack of practical writing, and very common among current screenwriters at the present time. @Thoughts_Dreams Done it!

I know that a discussion place doesn’t always give a fair indication of what people think but if you look at this thread on Reddit it seems to be divisive.

The Reddit link really sums up my take on RBW, and leaves with nothing else to add apart from that a friend of mine who really likes RBW finally read ALIEN: Manticore and The Lander...

Quote: "What you did, why aren't you working on RBW???"

Then things got really interesting as we started talking about RBW vs my amateur efforts...and in the end, my friend began to see through all the hype about RBW.

RBW is an example of how NOT to do sci-fi.

BWW:

Maybe it's a lot about marketing? Scott has been involved with a lot so he is a big name that can draw attention, also how they make it appear seems to be important. A lot of times the one with the biggest voice hasn't got a lot to say, it's just that it screams loud enough to be heard. Fan-creations can be better than official things that's why I look around for what fans do (podcasts, pictures, and so on) because they have the interest, to me that counts. Do a quick search for fan-art of the Space-jockey and you'll be surprised, it's impressive.

I'm a broken record on this but if the characters don't work then the TV-show or whatever doesn't work, for me at least. 1. Story 2. Characters 3. Themes, in that order

Everything you just said...yeah, you and I have a shared perspective on things, that's for sure!!

RBW is getting as much mileage as it can off RS's name, as it has NO merits of it's own to stand on.

Without a doubt I fell short apparently, with my criticism last month, I liked Episode 1, I have to confess that it is the best I have seen RS in a long time, I do not dislike the Droids, since I am Unconditional lover of BR, I only talked about script holes, inconsistencies and bad CGI design of the aliens. There are some HBO Asia videos from yesterday quite interesting (conceptual wardrobe) RBW here I leave them. HBO ASIA: https://www.youtube.com/user/HBOAsia/videos

OHHHHHH Roger G, me thinks you have drank the coooool aid that is RS!

You said this is the best thing RS has done in a long time???????? Well hummmm a good part of the planet disagrees that is all I'm saying....I could be wrong too.

I try to imagine things from Scott's POV. With his long career, there have always been fans and haters- but enough fans to keep him going. At his age, I can sort of relate and can agree with his big middle finger to haters. If you don't like his work, don't watch it. You don't have to bitch about it too because it doesn't check all of your personal fan boxes.

I can hate all over the prequels although I like them in general for what they are, but there are fans who think they are great.

Should someone write a story to appease the masses and cash in or a story he/she wants to tell? All out or a compromise?

Go Ridley! I might not be on board with everything but I will check it out. I know it's not all about me.

I wonder if he is a closet Overkill fan:

dk fully agree with your post above. I could not have said it better.

If there are films that I know are not for my taste, I simply don't watch them.

Go Ridley!

Now he is planing to do Napoleon movie with J. Phoenix, one more delay in the schedule regarding ALIEN? @BlackAnt if I like Ep 1 from RBW does not mean that I like all TV Serie. I just checked an interview with Guzikowski in Collider and he doesn't know which direction to heading next Sesion 2, he's messed up! Unless Gladiator II is dropped from the list, new delay for ALIEN?

MemberXenomorphOct-14-2020 10:22 PM

It seems most of the RBW haters are the haters of the prequels and I suspect the finger is for them too.

I believe Ridley is deeply frustrated he could not go ahead with his plans for Prometheus 2 and Alien Covenant 2.

I have still only seen the first RBW episode and am holding out for the series to be complete. I know there are haters and lovers- I don't care. I want to see it.

It's sort of like music. You might dislike a song or two but you love the album as a whole.

RBW season 1 is complete. Two weeks from now I'll be watchig it.

You can go ahead with HBO Max free trial if still available.

I'll stand happily with RS.

However, despite RS's involvement with RBW, I can't watch it. He might have directed two eps, but the rest is a trainwreck out of his hands.

Then there's the guy behind it all with NO plan...

I stand with RS...the other guys involved with RBW, they're riding his coat-tails, and that's just disgusting....they're parasites, they're just using his name.

RBW is an example of how NOT to do sci-fi.

I respectfully disagree. Sci-fi has many avenues of approach.

There are types of sci-fi I don't like, but others may love that stuff that I hate- and we can argue that.

If we are free thinkers, we can debate- but I don't agree with the notion of saying how sci-fi should be done. As much as some things in sci-fi that I hate, I understand they are enjoyed by others.

It is understandable that comes from a writer's POV, but I am coming from a fan POV.

@Blackwinter-witch I should add, in case you didn't know, Guzikowski is not just a simple screenwriter, he has invested his money in RBW just like Scott has done, we are talking about a solvent person, he is not a nobody, and he is an executive producer like RS. Another thing is that you dislike Droids (or detest them), is not my case, I have always been an unconditional lover of BR.

“You don't have to bitch about it too because it doesn't check all of your personal fan boxes.”

The thing is, people should be allowed to say if they don’t like a TV-show, movie, or whatever it is, right? My point is, if someone makes for example a mug especially if they go commercial about it then they should also be able to handle that people might dislike it. As soon as you get outside you’ll hear different opinions and if you can’t stand it then maybe stay away? I don’t say that he is dumb or bad, but he should be prepared and accept that everyone will not agree with him.

“Should someone write a story to appease the masses and cash in or a story he/she wants to tell? All out or a compromise?”

No, but be prepared for the fact that not everyone will enjoy it.

About a delay with getting another Alien movie. I honestly would rather have them abandoning the prequels instead of getting another movie about David. Sure they could do another one if they have more about the Engineers, well-made human characters in the script and on-screen, not about the android, and make sure that David didn't create the Xeno. The last one is probably the most important thing right now. It’s sad that it has now become about damage-control.

RBW is trash.

It's not original, it's not unique, and people are waking up to the fact that it's a parasite off other works.

RBW was a failed effort by it's creator to ride all the way to the Bank on RS's name.

@Thoughts_Dreams it seems that RS is not going to continue in the COVENANT direction. He looks pissed off in his last interview as I already highlighted, and he gives me good vibes, I think he wants to do it another one. @BWW Agree, Episode 1 the only thing to highlight, I watched it again last night.

I very recently watched all of RBW's eps in order, one after another.

I am seriously considering suing RBW's creator for compensation of the time wasted on that shitfest nonsense.

RBW is...it's a criminal waste of a person's time.
