It's been 26 years since we saw Lieutenant Ellen Ripley and her pod crash on "Fury" 161, making the ultimate sacrifice. What are your favorite scenes or characters from this chapter?

Mine would have to be when the Alien first made itself known to the inmates when horrifically pulling warden Harold Andrews into the ducts and my favorite character is a cross between Dillon (ultimate badass) and Clemens (who doesn't love Charles Dance?).

There were several good scenes but I haven't watched it in a while. Ripley's first encounter with Dillon is memorable- "I must make you pretty nervous". Another one was Dillon's speech about not dying on his knees.

Forgot what a powerful scene it was:

Its certainly a movie that grows on you a little each time you see it over the years....  when i first saw it i felt it was a Disappointment... it was just not to the level of ALIENS.... but alas when your younger you do have that Popcorn Flick Phase... When you hit your 30's and then 40's you start to appreciate other things more than just Action.

So just as Alien 3 has grown on me over the years.... Aliens has become more and more reduced to a Popcorn Flick

Good points BigDave.

I thought Alien 3 was pretty good in the theaters and the Assembly Cut changes in 2003 were for the better due to the reconciliation to the novel.

Aliens has regressed a bit from it's release to a Popcorn Flick, and in my opinion Alien vs. Predator has been upgraded from Popcorn Flick since it's release large in part to Michael Weyland and the pyramid under the ice. I guess that's why, later, Weyland Industries built Space Traffic Control in Antarctica.

Great topic Lawrence of Arabia. The film certainly deserves to be celebrated on the anniversary. Show me another film that has the Yutani Commandos...

The Quadrilogy as a whole is solid imo. Aliens and AR are popcorn flicks but still valid. A3 was definitely a grower for me and seems to get better with age.

Alien 3 is one that has grown on me over the years. Initially I did not enjoy it, but I was probably 12 or 13 when I first saw it. Still beats the hell out of Resurrection!

Hyped for: Alien: Romulus | Badlands (Predator 6) | Cloverfield 4

There are so many good scenes in it so I am not sure where to begin. I like the last scene where you see Ripley fall into the fire, that background looks good. By the way I prefer when the chestburster does not come out of her chest in case anyone is wondering about that. Dillon shines as a character so I like the scenes that he is in. Whoever wrote Dillon made a good job. Clemens where he tells his story how he got on that planet is interesting and I feel like he is sort of different compared to the rest of the inmates but then I do not feel like the prisoners are all the same. Alien 3 is really good, nothing beats it in the alien series still 26 years later. Golic is a crazy SOB but he serves his purpose and I actually think that he is interesting but I think that he could have had a bigger role being how he was as a character. ("Sorry sorry sorry!" That is some mentally unstable person right there.) Ripley is developed as a character and I think that she got a fitting ending in Alien 3, AR was a mistake. She went through so much and you can see that if you compare her to how she was in Alien compared to Alien 3 so that movie made her story-arch complete.

Even 85 is interesting as a naive guy that has too much trust in the company. I like where he says something like "I am at least not stupid enough to sit in prison at a planet far away" (or something to that effect) and the rest of them say something similar to "fuck you!" all at the same time, LOL! That must have been one of the few moments of comedy in that movie.

The tone is different to especially Aliens because it comes back to that serious style a la Alien. Aliens was more of a lighthearted kind of action movie but this one is more like the first so I like that.

Aliens was my favorite when I was younger but it still is an action movie that I can watch now and then but Alien and Alien 3 are a lot better. I find the characters and the themes to be more interesting and executed better in Alien 3 compared to Aliens that is probably why I think that it is better than Cameron's movie. The assembly cut improves it and is the Alien movie that I watch the most, even more than Alien.

No movie is perfect and there are some sequences with the Alien that are not the best but that is a minor complaint. For example when it runs at the ceiling and the throw a torch at it, then the Xeno looks a bit odd. There are probably some explanation for that also.

I would like to say thanks to David Fincher who did his best with this movie when we look at how the circumstances were. That it is a very good movie is something that we can not say is because of Fox. Alien 3 is up there with Empire Strikes Back and some other movies that I watch now and then.

Chris: I am not sure of it is a compliment to say that it beats Resurrection since most movies that I have watched do that but I agree. Even Prometheus is better than Alien 4 but I am not sure which one is worse between AC or AR.

I have to agree.... once we have seen the Beast Cooked, aka Alien R, AVP and more so AVPR and even how disappointing it was in AC

when we strip the Xenomorph away...  Alien 3 is actually fairly good considering the Nightmare Production it went through, the Character Development is something that really stands out and its something that only stands out better in ALIEN.
