Was there more in Prometheus we didn't see?

Every time i watch Prometheus ...something bugs me (as it did when I saw it originally)...the scene where the head explodes while Shaw is studying it (back on the ship) ...it seems like something popped out of it. We don't see it ...but the people in the room seem to see something we don't.

Then later when Shaw learns she is 'pregnant' and she begs for David to get it out of her...as if she knew/knows this thing is going to explode in her ... seems like this and a few other times in the movie the characters know more than we do. Makes me think that had these two scenes been a little longer and included what I think I'm seeing ...we wouldn't have needed AC. :-)

I love Prometheus even with its story presenting silly actions to situations all of which could of been avoided with small dialogue. Without those couple of silly incidents which like i say could of been fixed with small dialogue it was a damn near perfect film which easily opened up a universe with endless possibilities.

I think every last comment is in there for a clue to something else and the more we watch the more is unveiled.

For those reasons it is one of my favourite films of all time. Even with its few flaws it deals with creation on so many levels and also the possibility of somehow getting to see the real gods. Not the Enineers 223 or the Elders as we thought. Maybe a higher power will come into pay. it all links back to pre visitation and throws out darwins thoughts. such a lovely set of ideas put together and made as one of the most thought provoking films of our generation.

So yes i think there is a lot more to Prometheus than we can soak in in one watch ????

The lack of time on the murals was a let down for me. i couldnt make out what they were changing into or exactly from. A new character who happens to be my favourite as we know so little about him. The Bird Faced Creature. I think he has something to do with the first ever egg. I also feel that the comment "This is the blood of our lord..." from the original Prometheus script could be linked to this awesome creature.

Go on shoot me down. its only an artist having freedom - well im not accepting that !!!!

You are right. The head was infected by the black goo, so clusters of parasites exit the head similarly to the Covenant scene in which the Engineers are killed by David:

sherris It great to see that you hold Prometheus in seem esteem :)

Hopefully after the next Alien instalment we will all be able to look upon Covenant with the same amount of reverence - for the secrets it has yet to reveal as we do for Prometheus.

the scene with shaw telling david to remove the trilobite I believe is just a simple case of someone scared shitless. remember she cant have children but yet shes 3 months pregnant and its not 'a normal fetus' so it would be safe to assume she would just want whatever it was out of her without knowing its true identity. and talking of silly plot points. I don't think Prometheus had that many. yes it had silly ones that I would say the movie required to move the plot along but if u want silly plot points in the alien franchise, go watch AR. its littered with them.

Indeed i think the whole Mural, Fresco thing was a disappointment, we have to wonder when they did these things was they actually thinking hard about what connection they have... or was it because it just looked Alien and Cool and to give us something Alien to dwell over without it being no more than a Easter Egg

I was Re-writing Prometheus that would have spent more time on these.  But i abandoned it 3 years ago.

As far as there being more than we have been shown... i think for certain this is the case, we have the deleted Scenes but even these appear to be re-cuts of some other not included scenes.

i will try and think of some examples.

*The Fifield Cargo Bay Attack, it appears there was a longer Cut where we would see more of Dr Shaw in the ATV as Originally she was the One Who Drove over Fifield..  Also the other version we have not seen but was in the Trailer, Weyland was being escorted down to the Cargo Bay towards the ATV/Transport before Fifield Attacked.

*Longer Sacrificial Scene, on the Blu-Ray we do get some evidence of Dialog between the Elder and Sacrificial Engineer, but actually this scene was even longer than that...  Prior to the Movies release, Actor Daniel Twiss talked about his role as the Sacrificial Engineer and claimed he had to Learn and Perform a Few Lines of Alien Dialog, which means the Elder Engineer and Sacrificial Engineer had a TWO-Way conversation.

*Davd and Engineer Dialog, it appears there was even more than we see in the Deleted Scenes, Ian Whyte and Fassbender had to learn a number of Pages of Dialog, Ian Whyte also performed some  that was actually in PIE like David spoke.. but they voiced over Ian Whyte with some made up Mumble Jumbo.

*Juggernaught Crash... there was a longer and never shown shot of the Engineer in the crashed Juggernaught, where he was leaving the Pilot Room, and then also running across the surface of LV-223 both with no Mask.

*Engineer Entering the Life Boat, there was a longer Scene shot where the Engineer knelt down and picked up a Book in Vickers Quarters, some reports suggested this Book was the Bible and the Engineer flicked through the Pages.

*Hologram Scene in Juggernaught, there are reports of a Longer Shots where the Engineers arrive Calm and then latter shots of TWO of them Running in a Panic and with most of these Scenes i am pointing out there are Stills on the Internet that confirm them.

*Engineer vs Trillobite, it appears the whole Scene is a Re-cut even the Extended Scene, as the Engineer Arrives with no Burns and during the Fight his Face has No Burn, then gets Burn and then No Burn again.. this can be seen even in the Theatrical Shot.

So it appears to me they shot a Scene where the Engineer gained the Burn while fighting with the Trilobite most likely from Acid Blood, there is a part just before the Engineer loses the battle where the Trilobite has wrapped itself around the Engineers Neck, the Engineer showing his Teeth... I can only assume in a Act of Desperation the Engineer had taken a Bite in the hope the Trilobite would release, but this resulted in Acid Burn...

It would appear RS was not happy with some of the prior Scene (vs Dr Shaw) and so while Ian Whyte had Burns Make up on, they Re-shot some parts of the whole set of scenes.

There were many matters we did not "see" in Prometheus and for different reasons:-

1) The dialogue between Janek/Vickers was left out for reasons of pacing.

2) The Engineers active scenes were cut for many reasons pacing mystery and the Trilobite/Engineer scene as BD has said was a mash up.

3) By far the most important elements missing are those which would have been answered in Prometheus 2.

As to your point I always felt something emerged out of the head. The Alien Pathogen is a deus ex machina it has a million and one outcomes constantly mutating and its easy to see that in different circumstances what emerged would have been a neomorph.

The Alien Pathogen whether retribution or a booby trap laid for hubristic minds is the genie out of the bottle which the Engineers/David and W-Y have tried to control ... all fail.

The other genie out of the bottle is that at the time when Prometheus was conceived Ridley had no intention of backing into the Jockey incident and LV426 but equally he could not make his mind up how to relate to the beast. That was a mistake my own view is things should have gone like this :-

1) Charlie looks at the mural which story boards Eggs on a Juggernaut means nothing to him, everything to us.

2) The audience not the crew see behind the mural wall an inner sanctum where in a state of glorification we see an Egg.

3) When David activates the hologram to begin with the flight path is Paradise (which hints at later dialogue) before he fires up the next flight path Earth. Most importantly it makes the point Juggernauts from Lv223 fly to Paradise.

4) When Elizabeth and David arrive at Paradise the mural of Covenant comes alive and its clear that the Engineers have fallen and the consensual sacrifice of the acolyte from the teardrop ship has been subverted, as Engineers are sacrificed to the life cycle to create the beast which as in the mural on LV 223 are sacrificed to create the Alien Pathogen.

David deduces that the Eggs come from LV 223 and the audience can then speculate one ship traveling to Paradise "got into trouble" and the Jockeys Beacon represented a warning by a repentant Engineer.

The beauty of this approach is there is no loss of momentum in the key narrative "Shaw's search" but we get a nice tag to the Jockey without being entirely literal and the Cannister's (wipeout) and Eggs (sacrifice) cargo's are explained and makes a nice link in the middle between Mr T. and the Deacon, another consequence of the Alien Pathogen when allied to consensual sexual activity between mankind creating a corrupted virgin birth.

Whilst I am on about "that". I think the reasons our creators wanted to redact us about 2,000 years before is because we turned to the notion of a creative non material belief system rather than the mechanical belief system which we actually emerged from (or so the Engineers "choose to believe").

It has the same problems as the movie in general: it has good ideas but it wasn't executed very well. They could have spent more time on that scene to explain what it meant. As far as it is now, it is rushed.
I am not sure what popped out of it when they studied the head, to me it looks like it simply exploded when they are about to freeze it.

There are things there that could have been done well if they would have added some small parts, like the petting of the space cobra when they found a small worm kind of thing before. At least we didn't get stupid things like that in Covenant.

yes even though i think the world of Prometheus, A:C was hopefully a distraction and we get what deserve. not a classic. a good movie with continuity will do.
