The Blade Runner 2049 Sequel is receiving rave reviews for direction and cinematography.  Ridley is the executive producer.  Should he pass on the reigns to this man? And should Roger Deakins be the next DP?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2017/09/27/blade-runner-2049-first-reactions-critics-call-film-sci-fi-masterpiece/

Audiences have become so accustomed to so-so reboots and belated, underwhelming sequels that it's often a shock when one of them turns out to be good. That seems to be the general reaction to Blade Runner 2049, which held its first industry screenings last night, leading countless journalists to emerge from auditoriums in starry-eyed disbelief that the neon-soaked sequel might be, could possibly be, even better than the first.

"I think this Blade Runner is better than the original," tweeted Fandango.com founder Erik Davis, while USA Today critic Bryan Alexander revealed that it unexpectedly moved him even more than its predecessor.

The only other movie from Vilneuve I know is Arrival. It was good and had some nice ideas in it.

I'm usually not giving much bout reviews. They're a hint for something at best.

TBH I think someone but Scott should take over, with Ridley being an advisor for visuals and style. Because he still excels with visuals but not so much with "lost plots" and storytelling.

Just had a thought, how bout Tarantino? Pulp Fiction in space. hehe But seriously, I wonder what he'd do with it.

Eine Theorie die nicht auf Etwas solidem basiert ist für gewöhnlich nur Geschwätz.

I'm a Ridley Scott fan. Not only his work but also the Scott Free Productions for TV such as Numb3rs. Love his stuff.

That being said Tiwaz. I can only imagine how wonderful the story could be during the next solar sail recharge if Tarantino was directing.

Bob Forster would be great a target for a facehugger after some tough guy dialogue. And there would be plenty of room for Bruce Willis to smoke in the story before and after shooting John Travolta.

To answer the opening topic...I'm not ready to give up on Ridley Scott yet. Tiwaz makes a great point about visuals and foggy story but I'm leaning towards liking the approach from Ridley Scott a whole lot.

'Should Denis Villeneuve direct the next Alien movie?'

No, he shouldn't.

The next and final chapter(s) of the prequels will be directed by Scott, I hope.

Of course Villeneuve can work in the AU after that or on other Alien stories at the same time.

Well, the original Blade Runner has this special place in my heart, and no matter how good Blade Runner 2049 might be it won't take its place. The good thing about Villeneuve is that it won't accept a bad script, maybe because he has penned some of his films, like "Incendies". I am afraid to say, but someone with an immaculate track record like Villeneuve might be looking down at the Alien franchise in the state it is today. I would say he should direct an Alien film but only after Ridley Scott redeems himself with a good one.

The dumbest topic in here.No offense, Ridleys alien movies are better than the others.

@Walter, I understand your opinion but I only think that the original Alien movie that Ridley directed was the best.  I think his Prometheus and Covenant sucked.

Just like George Lucas broke ground with his Star Wars; the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were directed by other directors.  The Empire Strikes back is considered the best Star Wars movie and sequel.  George Lucas returned with the prequel movies and was lambasted for it.  I did think he redeemed himself with Revenge of the Sith but it still was not great as the original trilogy movies.  Then JJ Abrams made the latest movie and revived the series.  Now, two other directors will direct the next installments.

Cameron's Aliens was also considered a masterpiece and I consider Alien3 a much better story and film compared to Prometheus and Covenant.  With the current box office of Alien Covenant, the studio will not be considered foolish if they moved forward with a different director.

But I do not place the whole blame on Ridley.  He was given a crappy screenplay and he is trying to bandaid on what he got.  If 20th Century Fox will approve this man another budget, I just hope the story gets as far from David and the Engineers as possible.  Keep that android philosophy in the Blade Runner movies.

For the record, I was not too crazy about the movie Arrival, but I his other movies Sicario and Prisoners are excellent movies.  Those movies has showed he has a great visceral eye too and I will put him up there with Blomkamp in helming an Alien movie.

Denis Villeneuve is probably the one who should take over from Ridley Scott. But not yet. Ridley Scott has to finish the prequels because, let's agree, at this moment there is no one who can do it better.

"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

If that means a movie that would mean less David and more about the humans then sure. Scott is good with the visuals but that is that. He directed AC and Prometheus and they are both underwhelming so they probably wouldn't do worse with a new director, they got to look around carefully before they decide who to go with.

Interesting note, Micheal Green helped write both Blade Runner 2049 and Alien:Covenant. And, no, I don't think anyone but Scott should direct the next Alien movie. I just feel like he needs to finish the story he's trying to tell.

I just saw Blade Runner 2049 and it was excellent and one of the better sequels out there.  I recommend if you are a Ridley Scott fan.
