I humbly start a topic, and please do not judge me harshly. I am a huge fan of the franchise and own all movies (except for the two AVPs) on DVDs, Blu-Rays, books, etc. I have NOT seen A:C though. I thought I'd go my own route and read the book by ADF first (I'm 2/3 of it through) and finish it by the time A:C is available on Amazon Prime on August 1 and gladly spend the 20 USD they ask for and indulge in the comfort of my home. Of course I can envision most of the film by now because of viral materials, leaks, etc., but I still cannot wait. And I do not care for all negative reviews, I am sure it will be a fantastic experience. Anyone out there who has not seen it and not because of bad press and some negative fan reaction?

Come back with your thoughts after you have seen it :-)

Hey Jonesy, all I can say is I wish I would not have seen it. Those wasted 2 something hours.

Dr. Curt Connors, joylitt, I sure will come back after I see it next week. Not distracted by dislikes but will keep an open mind. Thx!

@JonesRules

I've seen it five times I love it SO MUCH. I also love the novel. I will be interested in hearing the perspective of someone who read the novel before seeing the film.

Be warned, the novel does have a lot more detail than the movie (as is normally the case).

VivisectedEngineer Thank you. I am aware of the novel being more detailed (knowing what the deleted scenes are, at least) and even offering some of its own explanations to the questions left unanswered in the film. I do not mind spoilers and am eager to see the film's execution of the narrative. And I already feel upset about the need-to-keep-it-at-2-hours BS, as I want to see at least 3 hours of this story, just like I strongly felt about Prometheus.

yes JR keep an open mind about the movie. im glad all the reviews will not put u off so I hope u enjoy AC, I really do. as vivisected says it will be interesting to get someones take on it AFTER reading the novel first. I like seeing the movies first as I like to put a face to the character when I read the book but we are all our own person so hope u enjoy the film as much as I bet ur enjoying the novel

I think as a film A:C is very entertaining and a pretty decent action/horror and if you love the franchise you should enjoy it.

IMO The only reason A:C let down is when you take it as a direct sequel to Prometheus (as they told us it was) It is lacking as a sequel. Not as a stand alone movie.

Take This.... This is the blood of our lord

It is quite the decent movie, and MOST people think the same. Do not let the negative nancies who didn't see the movie that THEY wrote, apparently, get you down. You'll enjoy it if you like good movies. There's a reason why it has a 65%+ rating on Rotten Tomatoes from agglomerated reviews. It is most certainly not a "bad" movie.

I wonder about Rotten Tomatoes sometimes. It seems like a movie could get a 90% or above score and some troll will come along and rate at a 10% with a comment stating that it sucks with no details- seemingly to just drag the overall score down.

The perfect example of that is Spider-Man: Poopcoming that somehow has a 92% but if you are a Spider-Man purist is pure garbage. No reasons necessary except for he pretty much has to be bailed out in every fight, never really wins one, doesn't need a suit that tells him what to do, Aunt May is a milf, they have stupid Michelle say call me MJ which is by far the biggest sin in that movie which means there will be no actual Mary Jane Watson and Holland is a whiny bitch, etc. Oh wait there are plenty of reasons just like people who don't like the almighty Covenant.

While raising your hands, don't forget that you can own the movie on Digital HD from August / on Blu-ray and DVD from August 15.

Enjoy the raisins, enjoy the Covenant! :D

Covenant is a fantastic film that, imo, feels like a love letter to the franchise as it encapsulates the original four films and Prometheus while still bringing something new to the table. I love David as the protagonist/antagonist, it's such an interesting route and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

Lawrence of Arabia - 'a love letter' - Interesting and beautiful thought. I think you're right. Scott wanted to give, he gave, but there are people who do not see that.

Its a polarizing kind of movie....

I would have seen the Movie first, then you would see the Book and think of how it could have improved the movie, so you would see the book as a improvement... rather than the movie being a disappointment.

Each to their OWN though ;)

I can see why the movie had flaws, and what attributed to it being so and a lot has to do with FOX cracking into some Fan Pressure and also FOX not giving enough Budget for the movie but over spending on Marketing.

Books will always appear better, as people can use their own imagination for how things appear, and with books you are not restricted to the constraints of fitting every detail and dialog into a 2 hour or so Movie.

ATI are you on Commission from FOX ;)

@DK

Indeed anyone can come along and Troll on any kind of Rating Board/Site includes FOOD and Hotels like Trip Advisor and just give 1* to bring the ratings down... but then some can Anti-Troll if you will and give 5*

My rating of AC is 60/100, its a bit of a mixed movie for me, there are parts that would lead me to give it a 8/10 but others that i would give it 4/10 so a 6/10 is fair from me.

Prometheus i rate as only 6.7/10 but its got so much of a Big Plot and Questions and Ambiguity that its discussing and delving into the Movie and what it tries to cover that makes it one of the Most Watched Movies by myself.

When i get the Blu-ray with Digital Copy i will be watching Alien Covenant a number of times and maybe it too will grow on my like Prometheus did.
