Did David Kill The Engineers in Retribution for the Death of Peter Weyland?

Weyland specifically says to David, "I am your father".  Any thoughts on this?

Ripleys_Ghost - you must be kidding with this? I hope.

David was humiliated by Weyland mere minutes after he was born.

The moment David realized he was the superior being in the room, the disgruntled Weyland put him back in place by saying "shut up and make me a sammich" (actually "pour me the tea" but it's the same).

It's not even subtle, it's super on-the-nose.

That set the tune of their relationship.

So...no, not at all.

Or, in the words of Dr. Ford from Westworld:

"No, I wouldn’t say ‘friends,’ Dolores. I wouldn’t say that at all."

I believe this sums up David's position quite well lol :p

Obviously, David's AI follows the path of "seeking for pure perfection". Weyland is soooo far from it. But Dr. Shaw perhaps can enter his "perfectionist" scope. So, perhaps she will come back in next sequel - in one way or in another. ;-)

All those... moments... will be lost, in time, like tears... in... rain.

I hope to one day have an answer for this from Sir Ripley, but it is just one of many questions that have gone unaddressed in these films?

Seriously? Unaddressed? David's motivations are very obviously setup in Prometheus, and again in the very first scene of Covenant. It was not even subtle.

@Kethol you are so correct in that last post. "Not even subtle", indeed.

Guys, I am alluding to the "I had learned of their ways" reference David makes about killing the Engineer-types, but does not let any of us in on his secret reason, or what he learned?  Why did everyone he bombed just freeze in place & not explode?  Who created us, who created them?

Instead, we just get, "Because David wanted to & now they are all dead & he also created the Xenomorph."

WTH?!?

Then David shouted..... No.... thats not True.... LOL

Anyone notice too many Star Wars connections lol.... Luke i mean David also having no hand at the end lol

But no i dont think David killed the Engineers because they killed Weyland... i think the Engineer actually released David from his Bondage.

"I had learned of their ways"

David would have been able to determine a fair bit from Prometheus, no doubt once he was back together he could have learned more from the Juggernauts Systems, he may even had gone and had a nose around LV-223 to get his Answers.

"but does not let any of us in on his secret reason"

I would assume David was rbought up being taught that Legacy is important and when we die its our Legacy that keeps us immortal as we are remembered by our Legacy, this can be by Arts/Works we leave behind, Historical Event you have taken part in... so your name will be Immortalized. The other Legacy is Children as they pass on your History, your belongings and Name.

Weyland also believed that in Creating David, it made him a God, and David finds out these Engineers are not really Gods, all they have to be considered this is their Legacy and Creations.

David is Immortal so to speak, and with Access to the Engineers Technology and Knowledge he could become a GOD himself... but to Safely insure that.. he would be better off to Eradicate the Engineers.  With them Gone... he is free to Salvage their Ruins for Knowledge and Technology and no one can Stop him in trying to Create himself and become a GOD.

"Why did everyone he bombed just freeze in place & not explode"

I will assume the Urns are like a Nuclear Weapon, where its Components when Mixed and Activated under the right circumstances causes the Urns to Explode and the Black Goo to react in a different way... where it simply destroys the Engineers Cells but does not break them down.

The Black Goo infections we saw in Prometheus are a result of contact with the components of the Black Goo that have not been Primed and Activated in the Intended Way.

And so it would be like Humans coming into contact with a leaking Nuclear Weapons Radioactive components.. as opposed to a Detonated Nuclear Reaction.

@ Cerulean BLue

I Learned Their Ways - "Their Ways" just means David now knows in how they created life, the various things the various forms of the black pathogen can do, and what the Engineers do to that life they created when it does not behave. This info is in both movies.

Who created Us - this was answered clearly in Prometheus. It was the the basis of the whole plot!

Who Created Them - Do you mean the Engineers? Not addressed in the films yet.

As said, his motives for bombing (or infecting) them are obvious in both movies. They have been explained on this forum many times, but just watch both movies. It's not that difficult!
