What happened to the xenomorph that hatched out of the Space Jockey on LV-426? Given how large the fossilised SJ was, in comparison to the humans from the Nostromo crew, the xenomorph must have been massive!

Indeed the Hole would appear to give birth to a 17-19ft tall fully Grown Xenomorph/Ultramorph based on size of the Hole and size of the Space Jockey

Assuming Adult Xeno size relevant to Host.

@BigDave: Elizabeth Shaw's notes on Engineers in ancient Egypt indicated they were approximately 40% larger/ taller than the indigenous population.  Historical estimates have the average height of males during the Ptolemaic period to be 5ft 6in so an increase of 40% would be approximately 8 feet in height, which is reasonably close to the Engineer we saw in Prometheus but nowhere near the size of the Space Jockey.  So might this suggest the Space Jockey and his kin were of a group from a more senior hierarchy to the Promethean Engineers?  Had the Promethean Engineers "left their first estate" ala the Sons of God/ Watchers from the Book of Enoch/ Paradise Lost (and this is why Ridley referred to them as "dark angels"), and the group the Space Jockey derived from those who "kept their first estate" and were responsible for the 'outbreak' on LV-223 as a form of punishment/ divine vengeance?

No information was ever provided as to what happened to the xenomorph that was incubating inside the Space Jockey.

Dallas put his hand in the wound (hole) in the space jockey, and it looked to be about 8 inches; so not much larger than a human would suffer.

I don't think that there's any evidence given in the movies to indicate that the size of a full grown xenomorph would be dependent upon the size of the host.

Something that was very interesting is that the hatch or entryway that Kane uses to enter into the lower chamber appears to be burnt with acid, presumably from a xenomorph of some type.  Makes one wonder if there was some sort of violent fight onboard the derelict.

@Ripley's Ghost: And for  that matter who put the eggs in the lower chamber, the SJ, or the xenomorph that burst from it?  That is, was there a bigger crew on the Derelict and upon bursting from the Space Jockey, the xenomorph killed them all and moved them to this area like had occurred to Dallas and Brett in the eggmorph scene of the director's cut of Alien and they subsequently became eggs?  Recall the script and novelization of the first film had Ash (before his malfunction) identify the SJ as of a noble race, which would suggest, along with its much larger size, that it was not necessarily of the "elegant, dark angel" Engineers seen in Prometheus.  So the cargo of eggs weren't necessarily put there by it for consequent bombing.

If I'm not mistaken there was no SJ in the ADF novelization, it was one of the big differences compared to the movie.

 @Nathan Adler

Those are all great questions.  I think that most of us are hoping for answers to them in a future movie.  We fans need closure.

I've always questioned whether the Derelict was shipping/carrying the eggs as a weapon, or if the xenomorph that emerged from space jockey was a queen... that later laid all of those eggs...

@Ripley's Ghost: I'm not convinced an Alien queen was part of Ridley Scott's plan as the one that emerged from Kane appeared able to create its own eggs from the "cocoon" scene with Dallas and Brett.  It just needed victims and could gestate them to become facehugger eggs, IMHO:)

Alien: River of Pain suggests there was going on more than just the SJ getting chestbusted and that "he" wasn't the only one onboard.

Eine Theorie die nicht auf Etwas solidem basiert ist für gewöhnlich nur Geschwätz.

tiwaz, I love river of pain, the scene where the husband and wife team from aliens enter and see the battle frozen in time is one of those scenes I really want to see on screen. but this question about the SJ and what burst out of his chest is meant to be the whole reason RS came back to the alien universe. yet he seems to have strayed from this path. he has been corrupted by the dark side

Unfortunately, Prometheus retconned the massive size of the Space Jockey from Alien :(

yea id have liked the size of them to have stayed the same as the dude in the derelict

@Ati yes, I believe you are correct, and that's what made the SJ's appearance in Alien all the more glorious...it was a complete surprise even to those (like me) who had read the book previous to the movie. Of course, the later editions did include it to better replicate the movie, but the original did not.
