Shaw Can Return – If They Want

Undeniably, Covenant does not deliver the solution to the Shaw mystery. The movie does not reveal her fate, we do not get a straightforward answer regarding what happened to her.

I tried to collect every relevant pieces of information occuring around the character in Covenant and I found that it is impossible to jump to a reliable conclusion concerning past events.

Beacon:

Ok, it shows Shaw, but it does not mean anything. I mean it does not prove that she had activated it. Added to this, she does not speak in it but she is singing! If you activate a beacon you start singing??? So I would say that the beacon was activated by David.

Dog tag/photo of Shaw and Charlie/personal objects:

They are found on the crashed Juggernaut, so I think this fact can imply that she had to leave the ship fast and was not able to return. Of course, it can mean her death as well, but does not prove it! Another question: can you imagine that David did not revisit the ship after it had crashed? I’m sure he did. If David returns to the ship, why does he leave Shaw’s belongings on the ship? He states in the movie that he loved Shaw. I’m sure if you love somebody, you take the photo of her with you after a visit. So it can support the hypothesis that David had no real feelings toward Shaw. I don’t believe David.

Shaw’s tomb:

We see just a piece of stone in the movie. It does not reveal anything, you can create a tomb for anybody who had disappeared previously. I think the tomb can be viewed as David’s personal compensation for something he did.

Drawings of Shaw:

I do not claim that the different drawings of Shaw (found by Daniels) show her clones, but it is a possibility.

Dissected body:

If the drawings reveal different clones, the dissected body can be a Shaw clone as well. Some members think that David created a kind of crown around her head because he had loved and respected her so much. As I mentioned previously, I don’t believe this love-thing. Plus, if David creates a crown, and recreates her jaw, why doesn’t he do that with the whole body? It’s easy to see that it’s more probable that the dissected body is a clone as well.

(The source of the eggs: more eggs can be seen in the movie, and I think these eggs were taken out of the different Shaw clones.)

I believe it’s possible that Shaw lives. They can bring back the character if they want. It’s interesting that the famous EW article writes that Shaw disappeared. Of course, it does not prove anything either.

I should highlight that I was not the fan of the character in Prometheus but now I feel I would like to see her alive in the next Alien chapter.

That dissected body looks like its Shaw.

Probaly experimented on while she was in cryo sleep.

David is a treacherous individual and she should know better.

If the dissected body is the original Shaw, why is there a tomb with her name outside the building? :)

Great catch Ati!

I  imagine the Engineers city has vast amounts of cloning and experimenting labs? They must have plenty of cool 'toys' laying around?

Space mines to trap unsuspecting space travelers?

MonsterZero, thank you! To tell you the truth, I thought this topic would generate more comments. Am I the only one who would like to see Shaw in the next movie?

Love to see more Shaw. Or just read a novel on just what did happen with her and David. BigDave has many great ideas in another thread.

The two of them could of had multiple adventures on many different worlds before arriving at this one.

Hope someone fanfics these angles/possible stories.

I was interested in Alien Covenant solely for the David/Shaw relationship. My disappointment in the lack of exploration and answers was... tremendous. I wasn't expecting the whole movie to be about them, but after the tantalizing glimpses we were allowed in the Prologue, I thought we might get at least a little back-story and some explanations about Shaw's fate.

And we got nothing.

I would pay a lot of money just to see what happened between the end of Prometheus and the beginning of Covenant (to David and Elizabeth). I sincerely hope we get a few decent answers in the next movie (if it gets made).

with the level of technology and science involved, there's a lot of room to allow for Shaw being among the living.

IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

The tomb has probably an symbolic character without any body buried in it.

Shaw was clearly killed by David (choked to death) as you can see that marks on her neck when Walter observed her remainings.

David tried the same choke-to-death with Daniels but luckly Walter intervened before this happened.

I mean i really like the story-arc of Shaw and expected more. Specifically her search for humanity's origins and maybe some more Engineer stuff.

But now it seems R.Scott just destoryed and interesting side-story-arc before it really started.

Gralen, creation of a symbolic tomb would be reasonable if you don't have the body of the dead person because he/she had disappeared or something similar.

But we have the body if the dissected one is the original Shaw.

We are facing a contradiction here. That's why I think it's possible that David used clones.

As sad it is, she is definitely dead.

Keep in mind she was together with the same David from Prometheus which killed her boyfriend and impregnated her with the trilobite-like alien creature.

It's logical he tries to continue his experiments and pretends to suddenly be a good guy to get her trust (in a programmed seductive way).

Then he lies to her about how long it takes to get to planet 4 (Paradise, etc) and make her entering the hypersleep chamber, so he can study the Engineers way of genetic-engineering which he combines with his programmed desire to 'create' life.

The end result is that he started his experiments on her again.

watching a:c again and something stuck out.

when david is showing oram around the shop of horrors he says to oram: "these are OUR successes"

which implies that he wasnt alone in their creation.

so david sees shaw as part of the creation.

is this because he used her body for parts or to create the eggs.

OR maybe shaw is somewhere else. she even knows of the experiments and played a hand in it - the only reason shaw would go along with such a thing is if she thought humanity was at risk if she never.

i think there is a small chance of shaw returning and i would want that but not nearly as much as i would like an engineer or a certain character in the fresco to appear

sounds a stretch in the predictable world of covenant though

Take This.... This is the blood of our lord

No clones please.

"I'm going to do to you...what I did to her."

Pretty clear as day line delivered from David. He killed her. Made the monument in her memory (in some strange way he DID care for her) and then used her body for experiments.

End transmission.

Maybe she was dying from the original alien infection inside her, so he killed her as an act of "compassion"

Still doesn't fit. That line really makes David out to be a malicious psychopath. There aren't very many endearing ways to make that line sound good.

They tried to make him a sort of anti-hero. He comes across creepy and malevolent. Sorry, he was well written in Prometheus, that luster sort of worn off in AC.
