Screenplay scribe Dante Harper suggested in a recent interview that it was Ridley Scott's decision to leave the Engineers and Shaw out. He also confesses that the flute was Ridley and Logan's idea.

Why would Ridley leave Shaw and the Engineers out?

Was he smoking pot or something :/

I tend to think it is not solely his idea to wipe out Shaw and Engineers, but how much to include them in the film. I personally love the ideas of showing less engineers in this film, otherwise the film will be like 3 hours long.

Seems to indicate to me they had covered more about the  Engineers and Xenomorph Origin Originally before changes.

It also seems they had shot a few alternative scenes maybe and also maybe more about the Xenomorph.... i guess we have to wait for the DVD extras..... i really would love to see what the Paglen and Green Draft was like before it was re-wrote in the summer of 2015

I think the Engineers are cut and Shaw in part due to reception they felt from the fans and that in order to make the movie that had, they had to bypass these things otherwise they would have struggled to even fit everything in a 3 hour movie.

Hopefully we really do find out that Shaw is alive and well in Awakening and was left behind on the engineer home world. I made a similar post on the Shaw being Cheated topic about how David seems to have adopted the Engineer's agenda. If what Dave says is true about the Engineers being beyond sexual reproduction, it suggests to me that humans are created and intended to become engineers once they "mature" as a species enough and the beings we see in Covenant are a halfway mark. I'm hoping the body we see on the table is just a clone and not Shaw or some other woman with similar appearance, who knows. The next time we see Shaw I'm hoping it's as a full Engineer. It says David's last phase is redemption and I'm going to hope that that is going to be blessed by a full blown Engineer Shaw. But like I said in my other post, just wishful thinking. I truly do feel Covenant jumped the shark hardcore, though.

Too many damn writers. Should have brought back Lindelof and Spaihts. Especially Spaihts. He came up with some interesting and original ideas for the franchise. And now it's been completely undone. What a train wreck.

Thats an interesting idea, Shaw becomes an engineer or rather what we saw was the halfway point of humans becoming engineers. Another thought is why do they hate us? Are we to eventually evolve into something that destroys/competes with them?

I hope its not the end of the engineers, it seems a bit weak to have them in and out by bombing them with goo.

Lots of questions, but overall a step in the right direction with AC. Enjoy the ride

I did not like Prometheus as a movie much because of the writing but i truly loved the mythology introduced in the film. I'm one of those people who turn off Alien after the juggernaut scene. I've never cared for the rest of the film because from that point forward there isn't much difference between it or Friday the 13th. Aliens is the only one ill watch all the way through. I was really looking forward to seeing a big dark universe opened up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed tightly hoping Scott has second thoughts about this. Only so many times you can show the same stuff over and over. and yeah I'm pretty salty about it.

oh and they didn't like us because we killed their emissary who was sent to stop us from continually engaging in war.
