I'm back guys!!!!I saw Alien Covenant earlier today and have come with theory regarding the xenomorph.Late in the film the xenomorph are introduced Via David luring Christopher Orum into a chamber full of eggs.Now of course we are meant to believe David is responsible for the creation of the xenomorph,but I'm still not so certain.These xenomorph were rather different than those encountered in previous films.It starts with the eggs,they are of course different in appearance from our standard ovamorph.The facehuggers them selves are a bit different too,they are easier to resist than previous facehuggers with the victims resisting even when they are attached to the face.Lope's chestburster even demonstrated an ability to be able to lay an embryo with out even having to fully attaching itself to his face.The chestbursters also had a much shorter gestation period.Then there is the chestburster itself,Orum gives birth to a rather full formed xenomorph rather than the serpent like chestburster we are use to.They also grow a lot faster than usual as well.Full grown there behavior is also a bit different,from the way they move to a lack of stealth (except for the shower scene)These things are far removed from the perfect killing machines we know so well.To me it seems if David is indeed the creator of the xenomorph then he hasn't quite perfected them yet,that these are indeed "Protomorphs."What do you guys think?

I'm totally with You! And they lack the biomechanical appearance that is significant for the xeno. The mechanical part in biomechanical is yet to be added, and I think that androids (i.e David/Walter) have something to do with that. Right now they're just strange animals with acid for blood.

I believe that the explenation for this will come in future installements. And I really hope Ridley will do it  justice.

Exactly!These things were far from perfect in my opinion.Violent and aggressive to be sure,but certainly the first of there kind.

Ridley Scott confirmed David created them in an interview saying "The Engineers didn't made him David made him." When he say "Him" he's pointing to the Xenomorph or Protomorph on the cover but it's possible he means "Him" as the entire species.

Can you point me to some "biomechanical appearance" in original Alien movie?

@Lance

Yes. If You look closely at the Alien in the first film it has ridged tubes on the head runnning from the front to the back where the transparent dome meet the rest of the head. It also has similar tubing on the side of the head and neck. Patches on the arms and legs that apear to be mechanical and metal teeth an nails. Giger himself said that the Alien or "the Alien desert" as he called it, was a biomechanical creature, and much effort was made in the creation of the Alien to make it look biomechanical.
