Anybody else think he sounded a tad jealous now that SW has been revived and has been a massive success? He even mentions how as a young filmmaker when the original SW came out he loved it but it made him feel depressed because of how good it was (and probably because it showed him what he was up against). I agree with him and I wish Alien was bigger, but I don't think it should be on the level as SW proportions nor does it deserve to be. Even as good as the original movie was (and Aliens), it was never a huge deal in the way SW was/is. SW is a one off. For one Alien is not a family friendly franchise, and two, the merchandise never aided in elevating its status (Banned Alien figurine with glowing brain, anyone?), so it was never going to be this HUGE thing. I think Ridley seems dissatisfied (maybe because his movies specifically his non sci-fi movies - apart from maybe Gladiator and Black Hawk Down - are just not very good) and has expectations that are way too high. Instead of complaining that Alien should be a much bigger and popular franchise just because he says it should be, maybe he should focus on making the current slew of movies in the series BETTER (maybe start writing them himself or hire better writers) and if he is lucky enough to end up with a massive hit on his hands like The Force Awakens was, then the series would naturally become bigger and attract new and old fans alike. Complaining just makes him seem like a jealous grumpy old man, who is upset by the way some people reacted to Prometheus (and now AC). He should take a note from one of his character's instructions in the former: "Try harder".
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.

Would love it if the Alien franchise got bigger. It got alot more going for it now and alot to build on in the future (engineers, David storyarch after Covenant, shaws journey etc)
