So I've seen the movie, and now I can't wait for Alien:Awakening in the hope it answers more questions.  I feel I need to see it again, as I didn't really watch it for just entertainment purposes, but for answers, and felt it went by too fast.  Most of us would agree that David is very naughty, and there is a number of ways the story could go from the end.  After all, he has all the material he needs??? Except....would he not need more black goo?  So I'm wondering if he goes back to the planet or not.  I am actually interested in why this stuff makes the creatures it does and I am hoping we get some answers one day about its source.

Didn't really get to see it much

Compared to the bag of cess that is Prometheus, this film is wonderful. The acting is much better and the horror is back.

It still has flaws, but they are tolerable and forgivable in my mind, unlike Prometheus.

James Franco must need the money because his character could have been easily written out altogether, and save valuable time.

Many other absurdities: solar sails with no sun; Faris and Karine slapstick deaths; all engineers reside in one crappy town; etc.

But the painful death of Shaw elevates this film, because I am one who couldn't stand that character.

Although I don't much care for the neomorphs nor the protomorphs, (which all looked like poor CGI) I think this is a better film than 3 and 4.

So, order of excellence is AlienAliensAlien: Covenant.

I think we are going to have to wait for the next movie to have a lot of questions answered.

@Batchoool yes, having seen the film today I think that we will have to wait the 14 + months to get answers to the many questions we have in Alien: Awakening.

As for the David query, I think like others in a thread above us here, that he somehow transferred himself into Walter. That would allow all of the injuries and such to be consistent. This would be feasible if not for the fact that David is a rather vain Ai, & he would've coveted Walter's updated system and self healing attributes. I'm sure time will tell. I'm hoping already that there will be a Director's Cut when released onto disc.

I was also surprised in a way that scenes like 'The Last Super' and crew logs were left out of the film. I guess that Ridley was fleshing out the film whilst staying within the time constraints set by Fox.

@DV I too wonder about the official line about the black goo and all it entails. So many questions that I hope to get answered one day!

This is a film that requires repeated viewings as there is a lot to pay attention to in terms of finer details.

I dont get why everyone hates of Prometheus.  I liked it a lot and think it reinvigorated the franchise.

@WilliamPotter-I agree that Prometheus did what it was meant to do, and that is pose the biggest questions.  If we all mind the quote:  'The trick is not minding that it hurts', then we will understand that while Prometheus is at times painful to watch, it is the small beginning that will lead us to bigger things!

@Cerulean Blue I too agree that Prometheus was a necessary cog in the wheel to get the back-story evolving. I quite enjoyed it, and whilst we all found it frustrating in terms of many unanswered questions, it set the grounding for David's character. I think that it was a thinking fan's movie, and the production was exceptional.

"This is a film that requires repeated viewings as there is a lot to pay attention to in terms of finer details"

Having seen Alien Covenant twice... i am not sure it would need too many viewings to be able to understand the Plot...  its quite straight forwards like a Alien Resurrection...

Only Mysteries really lie with whats left from Prometheus and so Questions about those beings on Paradise, why the crew never asked David about them, and those Big Heads....  its like they never paid attention....

Like... "oh this is the ship the signal came from, where is the person who sent it..... oh there is another Robot who takes us to Safety...." but nothing really about... What the Hell has gone on here.. David...

For those who like Aliens, Alien Resurrection the movie pleases, for those who Totally Dislike Prometheus its a Bonus... but those who liked Alien and its Lore, and Prometheus will find it a bit of a Shoe-horned Space Slasher.

I liked half of it... i felt the other half was a disappointment, and rushed.

Prometheus needed multiple viewings to better understand it, i feel AC that multiple viewings will not give any real answers at all... but will allow us to take a peep at more Plot Holes than you can shake a stick at.

"David is very naughty, and there is a number of ways the story could go from the end.  After all, he has all the material he needs??? Except....would he not need more black goo?"

Indeed a very good point... we have to think where would David Go? What is his Agenda?  He seemed to be fascinated in Creating Life, and he had created a fair bit on Paradise from what we can assume is very little left to experiment with after the Bombardment..

He also had a dislike of Mankind, and even wants us to be destroyed... so going to a New World with 2000 Colonists, and Two Face Huggers is hardly going allow him to evolve his creations much... and what once he has infected all those Colonists?

Can Xenomorphs  Egg Morph? If so and Ridley Explores this aspect (From Alien DC) then he would need nothing else, as he would have Thousands of Eggs.

But then what next?  Does he then wait for more Humans to Turn up?  Does he attempt to go back to Earth... but then surely Earth's Defense Forces could stop a Giant Cumbersome Colony Ship.

A Engineer Ship however would be the more Perfect Weapon to get past Earth Defenses...

Also David has been interested in Creation, he has thousands of Genetic Hosts to Play with... surely he would wonder what he could do with more Black Goo....

So if he needs Black Goo so he can experiment more, and a Engineer Ship then Logically this takes him to LV-223, which helps drive the Next Movie more Directly to Alien.

"I am actually interested in why this stuff makes the creatures it does and I am hoping we get some answers one day about its source."

This was the interesting thing with Prometheus, it had clues but you had to really look and invest time into finding them, which not everyone has the time to do so.. especially when the movie has flaws...  A mistake by Ridley as i think he needed to had left these things less ambiguous for those who would not want to be spending lots of time going over the movie time and time again.

Alien Covenant has turned the Black Goo kind of into a Mcguffin it kind of contradicts what Prometheus showed us, but then the movie does the same with Alien Lore too.

The Black Goo is a Biological Mutagenic Accelerant that Passes on DNA Traits related to the Xenomorph onto those who come into contact with it, depending on how they come into contact with it...  There are clues to how it came from... but only if you pay attention, or read Spaights Alien Engineers, then it seems the idea was that the Sacrificial Goo in Prometheus breaks down a Organisms DNA and this bonds to form a Evolutionary Accelerant that passes the Organism that consumed the substances DNA onto other Organic Life to make a Hybrid.

Sacrificial Goo + Wolf = Wolf DNA Mutagen that then + Human Contact makes a Werewolf... if you get where i am coming from?

So the Black Goo is likely the result of a Organism Genetically related to the Xenomorph, that is broken down and its DNA stored inside the Urns.

But now its just basically a Biological Pathogen that Kills simple as, but under certain conditions can be used to create Life, all sorts of Life...  They made it more simple.. less complicated and interesting and the same is with a lot of Plot Points... and so its a bit Lazy at the end of the Day.
