*SPOILER* My Thoughts on David (And the movie too!)

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here, so do let me know if the post are not up to standard/rules.

I just watched AC last night, since it just premiered here in Indonesia. It was a right choice to experience the movie in IMAX format. The shot looked crisp, and beautiful.

The movie itself was everything that Prometheus is not (looking at you Xenomorph lovers). But the more i wanted the movie to help answers questions from Prometheus, the more I realized it is not going to happen.

I'm just going to divide my thoughts on bullet points and ending it with questions and conclusions I came up with;

Positive side:

+ Gorgeous shot on the planet. Ridley gave it a great eerie feeling to it. I can't help but feeling that there is terror lurking somewhere nearby.

+ Great new way of 'coming out' (forgive the pun). The backburster scene was satisfying, so does the throatburster. It was well made and a refreshing alternative to the regular action.

+ Michael Fassbender acting was astounding. His portrayal of Walter & David was a perfect polar opposite. Walter with its calm, uncurious nature, while David the android-turn-creepy scientist kinda guy.

Negative Side:

- Xeno-more-mystery. I loved any Xeno/Neo screen time. However, I feel the first depiction of Neomorph during the quarantine scene was a little way too much on screen, that kinda strays away from how Aliens are depicted in the first & second movie. Not to mention the baby Neomorph's CGI is not the best looking around.

- Too many characters, too little backstory. Don't tell me they're there just to die?

- Pace feels rushed midway and too much information is shoved down audience throat instead of being implied. Shaw's fate? It is answered alright, but yep, you're gonna see some dead bodies and an autopsy picture. Gruesome? Yes. But is this the way i want to know what happened to Shaw? Nope, not in a distance. Engineers fate? yep, all dead. Why? nobody knows why David killed them.

- Ending was bleh. Okay, i've somehow concluded that David didn't die prior to the final length of the movie. But with the ending showing David shushing Daniels prior to hypersleep, with additional regurgitation of Xeno embryo was a deal breaker. I'd very much love it if the scene cuts when Daniels realized the person she's talking with is not Walter, and the movie ended with David just grinning to the camera. That would be creepy and create a whole new set of terrors of what's to come.

Despite the flaws, the movie is still worth watching. My score after initial viewing is 6.5/10. I'm gonna get my second viewing this Saturday, let's see whether the score going to change or not.

Anyway, back to my thoughts on David, here's a little theory and questions i came up with.

David is basically Weyland with more humanity.

Consider this: David was split in half by the Engineers, Shaw managed to put him back together. As a token of gratitude, he is obsessed with fulfilling what Shaw desires (meeting her maker). However, along the way, he learned more about the Engineers, and developed a deep anger towards them. BUT, here’s the catch: the simple revenge turned into God complex obsession especially after he unleashed the black goo over the Engineer city, and seeing what the black goo does to the Engineers.

The first scene of AC was captivating. David answering Weyland question with a tone that is implying that he considers Humans as obsolete being compared to himself. I think this sets the tone on what is David actually capable of.

After seeing the devastating result of the black goo, I’m certain David is curious on seeing what the Black Goo will do to Shaw, a female. Remember, at this time, he only sees the result of black goo infection on a male (Holloway). So from that, I think he further cross breed the result of infection with another animal/human/engineers, resulting in the Protomorph eggs.

1 big question still remains. Why you do this David?
