Of course I'm referring to that time between when the film is released and you see it?  I guess I would say that I will stop - temporarily- after May 18th (day before it opens in the US) until I am able to see it.  some countries will be getting the movie earlier so maybe I should stop sooner until I can see the movie?  I think someone on here from Sweden is going to see it on May 12th?  Now we are all guessing at what's in the film and have little bits of info from leaks etc, but I don't want to ruin the viewing with any real commentary from those that have been able to see it.  When is the best time to start the hiatus?

Of course I'll return after I see it so we can all continue to speculate about the next movie

I still come to this site way after Prometheus was released to speculate on other areas...

oh I'll be back for sure.  Been coming here for years.  Just going to have to avoid it right as the movie comes out until I can get to the theater

I'll be back, count on it, to hear what folks think, and continue the voyage even deeper into the silent dark of the ALIENverse where screams can not be heard. :D

I think i'll stop at the 12:th, when the britts see it. Then I'll watch the movie on the 17:th (Sweden) and then I'll be back on the 20:th to discuss it with You guys! (Well, maybe not before everyone has seen it...)

Witch makes me wonder... When would it be ok to discuss the movie?

I would say post-19th would be ok, but be sure to post stuff with very obnoxious spoiler tags

@ALIEN426

Yes, not doing that would allmost be a cause to be banned, right!  I know I would be pretty p#@@$d of if anyone did'nt do that before I'd had the chance to watch it...

I will be sticking around....

Lucky for me i get to see it early, but i wont drop any hints or stuff on here until well after its been out so not until after say 25th.

I am sure from the 10th on-wards the Internet will be a buzz with reviews and Spoilers...  as the Movie would defiantly had been shown in some places by then.

I will also be here to debate after the Movie and what questions it leaves and what it answers.

For those who wish to go in Blind, then it would be best to stay away from here after the 10th of May and until after you have seen the Movie yourself.

Sadly this is a feature this Site does not have, and so it could be tricky and so for most people i would advise going into hiding after the 7th May to be on the Safe Side until they have seen the Movie lol

The only Advice i would give anyone is make sure any Topics are Started with

SPOILER ALERT!!! or similar.

like say for Prometheus, it could have been like.

SPOILER ALERT!!! Discussing the Ending of Prometheus.

Anyone then who looks at the Topic cant complain if the Spoilers Spoil the movie...

I am sure Chris will make a Topic come May 1st about the Dos and Donts... as far as Spoilers.

So like i said with the SPOILER ALERT before the Topic Name, another consideration is to not give it away in the Title...

Like Speculative Topic...

SPOILER ALERT!! Shaws Trilobite in Alien Covenant

This would be better to say..  Shaws Shocking Scene etc

SPOILER ALERT!! Cant believe they Killed David off!

This would be better as say.... Davids Destiny, or Davids Fate

Semi-relevant to the Topic, I have officially contacted FOX Studios to find out/begin the process of getting my works Licensed and hopefully Canonized.

Soooo....we will see, what we see, when we see it.

It's relevant as it's been my exposure to the forum members here that drove that decision and committment to it, and I enjoy having people who enjoy reading my works, well excerpts and snippets of at any rate. :)

To me, this is a site I will be remaining with for many reasons and for a long time to come. One key reason is that it's one of the few places where ALIEN fans don't get shoved aside and ignored in favor of things like 'Star Trek' and the other super-franchises.

It's an ALIEN-oasis. :D

Even after this film im sure there will be many more questions, theories, directions regarding the NEXT RS Prometheus sequel/prequel. Then the possible Alien 5 film too.

lots to discuss!

@Blackwinter Witch. That's exciting news, go for it!!! Your Manticore work is amazing and is easily good enough to be licenced. Im with BigDave Id buy/donate.

TY Guys!!!for speaking in kind support and appreciation of my work, and TY especially for speaking about making a donation!!!! :D
I'll have to look into that and learn how it works online...never considered it before.

I will of course keep you all in the loop as to what FOX says, no worries there. :)

Worst-Case scenario: I will release ALIEN: Manticore and it's follow-up as Fan-Fiction, which suits me just fine. :)

Given the plans for future sequels (chapters?) in this franchise, yeah, I'll be around to enjoy the ride as they come about and the pirhana-style theorizing and fun between them :)

Who did you contact at Fox?

Blackwinter-witch

MemberPraetorianApr-11-2017 1:32 AM

S.M

We will see.

I crawled through their entire site using the sitemap, couldn't really find anyone or a dept. that 'fit', so I sent them a General Inquiry asking for some directions/people/dept. to contact as well as a brief overview as to why I wish to do so.

So, with some luck, I'll get a useful answer. If not, then I'll try contacting a Licensing agency to see if they can help me.

@Blackwinter Witch

Unless you have published original material, unfortunately that's not generally how licensed fiction is commissioned. If you have original work you might be better off trying to hock that to a publisher or agent first.

Blackwinter-witch

MemberPraetorianApr-11-2017 2:54 AM

Right now, I just want to find out from them basically what's needed, what do I have to do/accomplish, how does it all work, etc..
I'm NOT expecting them to snap up my works, that's just so Improbable it's not worth thinking of. I'm a Realist, after all. But if I know what FOX looks at when electing to License or Approve or Canonize things, then I know which path to set out on, more or less. I'll at least have a 'compass-heading' so-to-speak.

I already have a Publisher lined up for some Original works of mine I have not mentioned here as they have nothing to do with the ALIENverse at all, so I'll be submitting the work to them when it's done being editted.
Right now though, my brain's stuck in the ALIENverse, so I'm just going with the flow. :)

The path usually is the IP owner (Fox) commissions a series of novels from their licensee (Titan) often based on a basic premise.  Titan sources an author they think is suitable.

Once you're published, you'll have a chance of pitching an idea. Right now your chances are practically zero though. They can't look at unsolicited material based on franchises for legal reasons.

MemberPraetorianApr-11-2017 4:03 AM

I know, so this isn't a pitch, it's more a request of information on the process akin to the condensed version you gave, and TY for the overview!
If they asked to see my manuscript AND then offered License or whatever...I'd look outside and expect to see Unicorns flying in formation with winged pigs. :D
No, I am NOwhere near pitching ANY of my ALIEN works yet, for one reason, still need editing, 2nd, reasons you mentioned, 3rd I want to have a body of work assembled, edited and Ready before I try any pitches to FOX.

For now, I am very content with strictly fan-fiction level, but want to know how the Licensing and Canonization 'machinery' operates for the future, that's all.

BUT, who knows, maybe someone will be curious and ask for an excerpt, and then...
Weird things happen in this world, but I am NOT counting on such. :)

Thanks for all the responses gang.  And continue good luck with your endeavor with Fox @Blackwinter!

Looks like May 12th is the earliest showing and it's UK?  I'll probably go dark here on the 11th.  I'm in NYC so I'm sure the theaters will be packed.  I hope to get to see it in the first 2 weeks.  Basically before the end of May

@Blackwinter-witch

In lines to what SM said, it is difficult to get them FOX to use Fans Work, i think maybe contacting Fox and Titan would be better route and if someone at Titan liked your work they maybe could on your behalf pitch the idea to FOX, and then if they agree Titan would then contact you to use your work.

But its a Long Shot.

I dont know the Legal grounds for Fan Fiction though based on the Universe, i assume there is no Harm in it as long as you do not make money from it i suppose.

ANOTHER OPTION....

Change The Alien Franchise Elements.

Dan O'Bannons STARBEAST Is basically not a Alien Movie it was the Story that was then used as the Basis of  ALIEN.

So what i am saying is if you Read Star Beast and then Early Alien Drafts and notice the differences, just apply those to your work.

i.e

Replace the Name of the Company so no Weyland-Yutani

Design the Alien different and dont refer to it as a Xenomorph and somewhat change the Life Cycle a little bit.

For example lets assume you had years ago a Fanbased work in the Alien Universe and then you changed it to Non-Alien and you replaced the Design of Alien with something different and then how it Infects its Victims...  So Replace Egg/Face Hugger with a Airborne Parasite or Spore like Alien Covenant Neo Morphs.

If your Fiction went that route years ago, then Fox cant really have any case against you using Intellectual Property

So it could be pitched to Publishers by yourself.

If you went this route since Prometheus and Alien Covenant then maybe there is a sticky route... due to any Mutagen Substance or Chemical that Changes the Biology of a Host to create Hybrids, and any Spores that infect Hosts to Grow a Alien inside... FOX could argue its ripping them off.

But this would be a Grey Area, as i dont think FOX could sue anyone making Movies about Alien Life, that revolves around Bacterial, Parasitic or Virus means which the Black Goo and those Spores do indeed fall into.

Because well FOX have ripped off prior movies before Alien with AI so thats a Grey Area.... that you should be ok with.
