With a little over two months to go,and between the latest viral videos and trailers, the excitement for the movie has reached a fever pitch. That being said, what about the movie are you the most concerned about? For me,if you can believe it,it's John Logan. Now bear with me on this one, that guy has an amazing track record with such great films to his name such as Gladiator(that of course is Ridley Scott)SkyFall,Hugo, and The Aviator to name a few.On the down side there's Star Trek Nemesis(the worst Star Trek film in my opinion)The Time Machine, and Spectre.Spectre is the big one in my opinion, while it's an enjoyable film,it's also a tremendous letdown.Much like Covenant here, that film promised us a lot of answers and didn't really deliver any.My big fear is that Covenant will fall into the same trap. What about you guys?

First, I liked Nemesis enough. I think if they don't deliver answers while adding more questions, it might be enough for me to give up. That is worst case though. I think AC will deliver.

I agree,The film has a tremendous scope from what i can tell.I just hope it doesn't get too caught up in the spectacle of things

I also see a cast of characters I could care about if/when they die. Last movie- zilcho for me.

I feel pretty confident the movie in itself will please me enough tough there is one aspect of the movie that hardly has had any coverage and that is the musical score. I totally hated the music in Prometheus and I do not want the same type of thing happening here. I hope they come up with something equally original and masterful as Goldsmiths original score for Alien.

Musical scores wax and wane for me- best case is when they enhance the scenes and I don't notice if that makes sense. Prometheus could have played jazz tunes and I would have felt the same.

My fear is you can only pack so much into a 2hour movie...lots to cover, hope it gets right to business, and we can get some answers

I am thinking the trailers and videos being released might be able to aid in that regard. For example, we already know the CPT is ill and there is friction among some crew members. But only those who follow may get it.

I'm thinking this one is going to be 2 and a half hours at least

dk exactly, one of the main issues with Prometheus was the "characters", I couldn't relate to them at all and they did a fine job killing themselves using minimum intelligence and common sense and maximum idiocy.

Necronom IV I also disliked the soundtrack for Prometheus, it was like the composer got the wrong message that this was going to be a film about vikings or knights in a fantasy setting. Way to exaggerated, way too loud. The music literally drenched some scenes in epicness that went over the top and s*ts itself at the expense of tension.

My concern is that AC leans too heavy on the action side but that doesn't have to be an issue if the whole experience was great afterwards.

And no horns and chorus cranked up to 11 unless absolutely necessary please.

I kinda agree on the action.I'm not sure what to think when I see Daniels swinging around on that rope. It's not that i mind action(Aliens is my favorite movie after all)but i think that might be a bit much.Only time will tell though.

That's exactly what I based my concern on ninXeno426, that particular scene where Daniels swings about like she went full Lara Croft.

I hope they put that scene there for marketing purposes and that we won't see extended non stop action scenes

My concern is that the story be solid. We get answers to things this time and also some more questions would be cool. That they utilize the best of Giger's work and his ideas for the original and of late. Ridley Scott said this film is about "evolution"... That said, I would like to see the "eggmorphing" expanded upon and whomever or whatever made the engineers and I hope that whomever or whatever they are? They turn out to be larger biomechanical beings further up the evolutionary chain... That is according to the evolutionary chain in the ALIEN UNIVERSE anyway?

#1 concern is that it's not long enough, and that they rush the action without enough character development. Sure, almost everyone dies in Alien films, but you have to care about 'em and understand 'em to make it count. 2'02" seems like this may be a little rushed and a Fox edit, not a RS edit, so we'll probably get a "full director's release" later with the DVD.

BMacReady allmost said it all. That we get to see the thin red line, with Prometheus as the start of something bigger and that movie put into context. And I want Giger DNA all over it!

I would agree that the Prometheus soundtrack as a whole wasn't fantastic, HOWEVER, the opening track ("Life" I believe it was called) was FANTASTIC in my opinion, and I hope it makes a return in some form in AC

-creatures might appear too animalistic and not Gigery and alien enough

-weapons with nothing special and realistically futuristic to them

-only fast kills by creatures - no morphing/prolonged suffering etc

I would like to see the surviving characters return in a sequel.   Continuity with more than just the alien broadens the story and gives us attachments to characters other than just fear of the beast

My concern is that the trailer gives it all away.  In Prometheus we had a few surprises, but remember that even that scene showed the post-abortion scene.  It showed Shaw's baby squid IN THE TRAILER.  The Alien Covenant trailers so far have revealed a ton.  If the Xeno is being born in this film, that would seemingly be a very big reveal.

I am hoping that the film goes much deeper into everything.  2 hours in length and the whole thing has to be properly setup.  The first 20-30 minutes will be a great buildup but wont get down to business so to speak.  So really we are left with an hour and a half to bring everything to conclusion.  Seems like the action sequences will take up a bunch of time + we already know several scenes from the preview events..

So my concern is that Fox wanted to show the whole movie in the trailer, and that the story is short/thin with only a few surprises left.

I HOPE I AM WRONG!  We'll know pretty soon if the leaks were legit or not.

I have difficulty accepting that a bad robot originally developed the lifeform that eventuated as Kane's son. Maybe it'll grow on me.

There's already more questions than answers with these sneak peeks: what laid those eggs?; how'd a space jockey end up with a cargo-load of eggs? But I guess there are two sequels to cover all that.

Arher concern is the size of the cast.I happen t pretty enjoy and the movies, but i know the larger the cast is,the harder it is to get invested in everybody.Let me start with Aliens,it had a couple of marines that barely had any dialogue, those being Wierzbowski and Crowe.Alien 3 has an even larger cast full of unsympathetic prisoners.Alien Resurrection might be a little tighter but still some throwaway characters(Seriously how does Elgyn die before Hillard? She gets my vote for worst Alien character.)Then Prometheus has a larger than necessary cast, and like it's predecessors also pretty much die and we didn't even know their names. It's not a major problem,it doesn't really hurt my enjoyment of theses films. That being said,I actually can't wait for Crudup to die,I can't stand people like him.

Two hours might keep me at home waiting for the blu ray unless there was an intermission mid point. I will pre order in either case.

MemberPraetorianMar-11-2017 4:49 PM

Yeah that's pretty disappointing.I hope it has an extended cut when it comes out, especially if things go wrong.I know Scott doesn't like that type of thing though but who knows.

I have nothing against the length- I just am too impatient to sit in a little chair for that long.

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianMar-11-2017 4:59 PM

Oh lol.It just seems a bit Prometheus short to me.While I like it,I do feel Prometheus should have been longer,it would have had more time to answer some questions.I just hope Covenant doesn't fall into the same trap.

@StanWinston, thats what has me scratching my head? The Peter Weyland files says that he knew about the distress signal from LV-426 at the time of the prometheus mission and were keeping it a secret, so how could david create the classic xeno if he does not go back in time?

Only a few main concerns for me. One is (a common one) that the characters may not be developed very much as in Prometheus. There was not much time devoted to really getting hooked into the characters. That is a worry, especially with the large cast (as someone mentioned here already). I also think that with the characters all being couples could be an issue. I don't have a logical reason attached to it at this point, but it feels like something could...not click. Like, I suppose if we get a Prometheus treatment of the characters, then it will be tough to care and enjoy that couples aspect when people start dying and their other halves have to push on, or get revenge or yada yada yada.

The other concern is how the monsters screentime and actions will go. We know that the protomorph(s) and neomorph(s) will see some extensive action and there is the worry that it will just be too much. It is the same almost every time with sequels and prequels to monster flicks, how do you handle that next appearance? It would not feel fresh, scary, or good to treat the Aliens as they did in the original film. It worked once, can't really do it again. Or shouldn't. But from there, it is nearly impossible to change it up, keep some motifs and ideas form the original, and have it turn out well on screen.

So in short: Character development and monsters' screen time/characterization.

I hope it answers some questions, but not all.

More than anything I want this to be a blockbuster horror/thriller like Alien/Aliens were.

MemberPraetorianMar-11-2017 11:45 PM

Indeed. Some questions and answers will likely be saved for sequels.
