Was The Deacon Worshipped Because It Could Procreate?

Was the Deacon worshipped by the Engineers because it was capable of giving birth? Were they now sterile or were their females extinct? I realise this theory is flawed but I am sure that many of the greater minds on this forum will be able to help me out!

Did they find it, or create it after much experimenting? Or was it a never to be repeated or lost being, that never came about again until the good ship PROMETHEUS landed and Shaw became the unwitting host for it's recreation?

The crystal on the alter most likely contains it's blood, is that all that remained of it? Do the urns contain a synthetic mass produced form of it's blood/DNA. Or do they contain the essence of a whole race of Deacons, perhaps males and females, which they have combined with their own smart nano tec?

When the Deacon is birthed from the Engineer it comes out complete with an umbilical cord attached to what looks like a womb, rather than just a placenta. But then again why would it be externalised?

Why else would they hold it in such high regard?

As always, I look forward to your thoughts and theories!

Lol I love the wtf art!As for your theory,I often think that the title Prometheus comes with a double meaning.Of course the ship,but I believe the engineers may be like the titan Prometheus,they've stolen fire(in this case the black goo)from the gods.The black goo,much like fire,has both the power to destroy and create as evidenced by Prometheus.One new thing I'm considering is that the Deacon what it's species might be,could be the gods that they stole the black goo from.It's certainly a wild theory that's for sure lol.

As for the umbilical cord,due to its round size,I agree with your point of view on it looking like a womb.It almost lost a bit like an egg.

Can we be sure that the being portraited there is indeed a Deacon? I mean, the ressemblance is obvious, but could it be something else? We can see facehuggers being shown in the picture... a facehugged Engineer would produce the same Deacon as a result?

About the 'mural' or whatever it is, be it a Deacon or not, I was wondering... could it be there not by reasons of worshipping, but as a sign of strenght, as if telling the story of a feared enemy you've managed to kill?

Or could the murals be telling another story - one about the "Engineer civilization", ending at the one who sacrifices himself in order to become that organism? Maybe the Engineers, after the first infection, managed how to "secure" the alien result, then learning how to manipulate and harvest its DNA (as Weyland corp. would try to achieve later, leading to the Nostromo incident?). The mural could be some way to perpetuate this conquest, to expose their power.

The mural is either the Deacon or a xenomorph,but it looks more like the Deacon.Since what happened to the pyramid on LV-223 dates back 2000 years,some have compared it's pose to the crucifixion.

Nice reply Farlander, there are so many questions still to be answered. I wonder how much more we will learn post Covenant!

This thread was me adding a different two and two and coming up with....well zero! :)

It was also inspired by the fact that we have many new members and I'm really interested to hear fresh ideas about the murals, Deacon etc.

Bottom line, I've always felt that the LV-223 Engineers are actually clones, constructs or sterile gardeners. Possibly the Engineer equivalent of David 8.

Thanks for your input guys!

@Lone

Usually, from the discussions we think will lead to nowhere, is where we find interesting ideas! For example this one: Engineers being sterile... that's something that would make a lot of sense to the plot; They would have, then, to seed life only by the means of sacrifice. Would they had been made sterile by their creators, and then, after achieving the manipulation of alien DNA/black goo, becoming able to create life? Would them be, then, the Prometheus, defying Creation as humans did after achieving the Synthetics? Remember Weyland at the TED talks viral video: "We're the gods, now..."

Good topic Lone.

"Bottom line, I've always felt that the LV-223 Engineers are actually clones, constructs or sterile gardeners. Possibly the Engineer equivalent of David 8."

I agree, The LV-223 are not part of the regular Engineer population. They seem to me like the military (clones bred for the task) or priests in charge of the sacred tech for someone else.

"Bottom line, I've always felt that the LV-223 Engineers are actually clones, constructs or sterile gardeners. Possibly the Engineer equivalent of David 8".

It's subtle, but if you look at Prometheus... two beings were able to function (in a sense) after decapitation... LV-223 Engineers and David 8. I always thought it was odd that Shaw was able to "trick" the engineer head into "thinking it is still alive". When you draw the parallel to David as a synthetic being, it makes perfect sense. It may have something to do with the reason the other engineer attacked David so viciously... and the polar imagery of one having white blood and the other a dark, blackish color.

Ridley hinted when asked about androids, that, "there may be two (in Prometheus)". Although the Vickers' character would make sense, he may have been referring to the Engineers!! Having David's head removed draws a very strong parallel to the life within the fossilized head - and to really throw a wrench into things... if our DNA matches the engineers... maybe we too are a product of technology... we as humans are actually "synthetic" (in a much more limited, or perfect sense, depending on how you look at it)... created in their image like we created David 8. Our individualized DNA is, like a serial number, if you think about it.

Farlander absolutely, ties in nicely with the Prometheus myth and Weyland's TED talk!

spirit_light_speed Oh brilliant one, your proposal makes so much sense.

I never actually considered the possibility of Ridley's android comment alluding to the Engineers!

Perhaps the mural depicts God. A xeno type entity which the engineers are trying to recreate or something.

I wonder if the deacon may, if allowed to fully mature into its adult form, be capable of speaking, manipulation of human tech, possibly Engineer tech (unlikely) to some degree. Being of a hash of engineers/human DNA, the look of the hands, the thumb :) I'm sure problem solving, and use of tools are well within its bounds. Becoming god like wouldn't be such a stretch... No telling how towering an adult deacon would be, over engineer or human, physically and intellectually.

@spirit_light_speed

Very interesting connections...! I've never thought about the Engineer as a synthetic in some way... the thing about the heads, the "hate" of the Engineer over David, the DNA as a serial number... all of this makes a lot of sense! I'm going to re-think the plot from this perspective :D

Maybe the deacon is their twisted idea of a deity they want to create for their own rebellious purpose, eg; baal, the golden calf in exodus, it comes back to worshipping things that are not holy, its like whats been mentioned in previous posts, the creators(good engineers) want to give man a chance, and destroyers(bad engineers) want man wiped out, and while creating their new god(s) it turned on them(engineers being chased by it in the holo recordings) just my theory anyway.

"It was also inspired by the fact that we have many new members and I'm really interested to hear fresh ideas about the murals, Deacon etc."

Indeed Lone and Welcome back ;)  Yes we have covered this, but as you said its nice to open up some Old Topics for the many new members to give their TWO Cents.. ;)

I will reply a bit to other things first on this Topic before i tackle that Mural... as to re-fresh my interpretations is going to be ONE Huge Post so i would try and give it the In-a-Nut-Shell approach lol

But first the TWO Androids remark, with Prometheus... indeed it depends how you look at that comment, it teased many to think Vickers was a Robot and some still think she could be....

We have to remember the Games Ridley Plays with his vague comments that can be a Red Herring or indeed lead us down a different Garden Path, there are a number of things that would make people think that Vickers was a Robot..

But i hope this does not open  that debate on here... sorry guys.. but indeed Nope Vickers was not... a Robot.

So what was David?

He was a being Created by Weyland,  and yes he was like a Son to Weyland but the whole main use and purpose for these Synthetics which include Walter is.....

As the Prometheus Viral Site also states... so that we have a Tool, a Synthetic being who can then be used to carry out tasks that Humans do, a being created in our image who are very much like us Anatomically although they are not Organic.

These Synthetics are more advanced, stronger, quicker, have a higher IQ and so they can do many of our tasks..

But as the Viral Site said..  and with David Video

The aim for a Synthetic is to had created a replacement to perform certain tasks, that would be Dangerous, Difficult, Time Consuming for Humans.... so they can perform many tasks to make OUR LIVES more easy..  certainly would be of good use for Tasks/Labor or other functions that would be distressing, stressful and potentially dangerous for Humans.

We created (Weyland/Mankind) synthetics for maybe similar reasons for why the Anunnaki created the Igigi in that Mythos, and then created Mankind when the Igigi rebelled against the Toil they was expected to do (Mine for Gold)

And so indeed YES this is where David and the  Engineers maybe have something in Common.  Beings created by another Race to Perform Certain Chores and Tasks so that their creators do not have to and to their creators Benefit.

The Source informed me 2 years ago, that indeed David has a lot in common with those Engineers.

@spirit_light_speed

Indeed, DNA does give us each a unique Serial Code.. excellent point ;)

Maybe the Engineers and David are different because only that Mankind can only produce Synthetic beings and do not possess the ability to produce Organic Robots....  but then we have the Replicates in Blade Runner which i am not saying is Canon.

But indeed in this context we could just create Human Clones, and use them like Replicants..  so we grow them, and then program their brains so they perform tasks... this would be a Modern Day Slavery..

David is a Machine, a Robot.. Synthetic Wires, and Integrated Circuit chips....   he has (well ideally should not) No Feelings or Emotions...   for us to Produce a Organic Version or Clones and modify their brains so they feel no Emotions or Pain and we have Human Clones used as Synthetic Robots would indeed be really very IMMORAL

The Fact maybe some Race had created Organic Beings for maybe this kind of Purpose could indeed show just how IMMORAL those above the Engineers could be.
