A quick one that I know has been covered before but please, humour me . . .

These 'ere eggs we see in AC:  Popular ideas for them are morphing, David's 'experimentation', finding them on Paradise and other theories.

Given there is no life on Paradise (that we are aware of - and I am buying into the idea of the disaster happening before David's arrival, not after, mostly) morphing seems out for me.

Similarly re. D's experiments - all cards are still on the table but who or what is he experimenting on if not Shaw?  Engineers?

I've always thought it would be one of the above but perhaps the simplest option will prove to be the case - they were already on the ship - an alternate cargo to the goo (a la ALIEN)!  Or they were found on Paradise!

I'd love to see Shaw in some Giger style birthing machine but the trailer isn't giving me that vibe . . .

So, come on ladies and gents - ideas and theories - short and sweet - where do those eggs come from?

I don't see eggs being on lv223, I think it is just the goo so I believe the eggs r the result of the outbreak. ridleys original concept was morphing and the goo morphs organic life so the 2 go hand in hand, though I also think a queen has its place in the alien universe. depends on what is required for egg morphing. we discussed this on an earlier thread and it was discussed that maybe all that was required was organic material to create and egg, the subject didn't have to be alive for the process to take place. these eggs may be decades old and have been sitting there since before david arrived. after an outbreak years prior to his arrival, maybe there was a xeno outbreak and this is one such cave that has engineers or humans that have egg morphed, maybe even in a ritual sacrifice?

Yes, I like the idea of them being on Paradise, perhaps as a result of the outbreak.

Don't get me started on morphing though as it opens up a whole canon of worms . . . see what I did there ;)

fwiw - I loved the Queen idea back in the 80s as a kid but now feel it backed the franchise into a corner somewhat.  Perhaps Ridley will put that right in AC?

where morphing and queen concepts r concerned, its each to their own preference. I for one prefer the morphing theory as its more alien and horrifying but I like the queen and both have purpose and a place in the alien univers imo.

I love the design and the idea of a queen, but i love the egg morphing idea and concept. There is place for both in the alien universe. For example the egg morphing would help the xenomorph be the perfect organism as Ash so eloquently stated. With egg morphing a single xenomorph could help propagate its species through this process. The idea of being transformed into some other organic thing for such a nefarious purpose is both horrid and terrifying, even Lovecraftian and i love that idea of the single xeno using this method to reproduce.

But say after so many xeno's are in a population then to stabilize their numbers and strengthen their species in that hive or population a queen is formed once they have sufficient numbers to have a successful hive. This makes sense to me, and would accomodate both forms of alien reproduction and keep it from being just a simple "bug" and allow giger and ridley's original idea for the Alien to remain very alien (adjective)...this creature being unexplainable and undefineable and doing things that horrid and terrifying is what has made it so popular over the years, egg morphing should be part of its biology as well as the queen, it strengthens its alien"ness"

Ok but if they were from morphing - what did they morph from?  the cut scene from ALIEN suggested one egg per human so . . .

If that's the case it would have to be from engineers in a past event  - i.e. David found them.

I believe they arose from David's manipulation of the eggs in the Juggernaut's cargo hold...
