ALIEN: COVENANT SPORES – Are they spores?

If you look at the ’spore scene’ of the Alien: Covenant trailer carefully, you can discover that the ’spore’ does not behave like a spore – it does not float in the air but moves like an octopus (using tentacles) toward its victim.

(The trilobite in Prometheus was a huge facehugger and looked like an octopus.)

Do the spores move like sea creatures? No, they don’t. So this ’animal spore’ is the forerunner of the facehugger? You decide!

Nice insight! I know that the things that produced the White Beluga Xenomorph (The concept of which is now being used as the Neomorph) in Spaights's Alien:Engineers script was considered the forerunner to the facehugger called an Octo-Facehugger. Maybe this is a tweaked idea of that? It does move more like a critter than a fungal parasite

Interesting concept

MemberPraetorianFeb-01-2017 6:25 PM

ALIEN426, it is possible that they will use that idea.

Might be like the things that swarmed away from the Engineer at the start of Prometheus.

It almost looked like a fly to me.

I think they are not simply spores as we know them. I observed on an earlier thread that they appeared to have appendages similar to an octopus or face hugger. Spores float around at random and are dependent on air currents while this thing seems self propelled.

So this self-propelled demi-spore 'earhugger' carries the embryo...

with the neomorph, I wonder if they are a natural animal that haven't been engineered but are merely spore like larvae and grow into larger beasts inside a host? Did the engineers just live among them and later created a xeno? I don't think David is responsible for creating the xeno when we know that they existed from the mural in Prometheus and the whole egg lifecycle. It would be a plot hole to have David do some creation.

Ati

MemberPraetorianFeb-04-2017 2:50 PM

Perhaps David copies and improves the procedure...

I'd call it spores in the sense that these particles are exuded from plants or plant-like things. But I get what you're saying TC.

And what do you think about the name 'earhugger'? Or 'earbreaker'? Or 'octohugger'?

BigDave

MemberDeaconFeb-07-2017 9:35 AM

Well what if they are based off Cystoidea/Echinoderm  have to remember that HP Lovecrafts Elder things was based of these kinds of Organisms

Looks like the Spore casing?

Looks like the thing flying through the air and into Rigbys ear?

Dont forget that Dane Hallet said that Ridley Scott made them watch the Eel Short movie for inspiration when doing creature design.

The Eal

The Organism in this video is very related to Cystoidea/Echinoderm i was informed in December these Organisms are very connected but i cant say nothing lol

Just indeed we could be dealing with a Parasitic Organism similar to Cystoidea/Echinoderm of which a evolutionary path leads to our Monsters.

The first is very ugly, BigDave, the second one is OK. :)

Ati

MemberPraetorianFeb-07-2017 9:42 AM

I know, BigDave. :) The sea creature idea was an intentional approach.

The usage of the name 'trilobite' is not a coincidence. First concept art images were very similar to the extinct trilobites:

idk if its a forerunner to the facehugger to be honest.

If anything, this 'spore' is a better way of impregnating the host I believe. You wouldn't see it coming. Correct me if im wrong though

Ati

MemberPraetorianFeb-08-2017 12:45 PM

Assimilated_Xeno --- No, you aren't. You're right. Something totally evil and dangerous. When I say 'forerunner', I talk about their role, not about genetical roots or links.

Good point, Ati. The fungi has also a resemblance of an egg - so a small egg and a small "earhugger". :)

Indeed there was a number of Trilobite designs, and a Centipede like Hammerpede that had the look of the Trilobites posted above.

The other designs for other Monsters in Spaights draft to Lindeloffs also had many designs.    In Spaights draft Watts (Shaw) Face Hugger was described similar to the traditional Xenomorph in a way but concept of the Adult form was nothing like the Xenomorph.

We also need to remember they did a number of concepts that all looked similar, which included  either for Watts or Holloways Adult Xeno as well as a alternative Ultramorph and Deacon that all looked similar in some concepts.

I think this design is what the Neomorphs are based off and indeed the Back Burster is actually really just similar to the process of Watts (Shaws) C-Section Alien when it evolved from Juvenile to Adult stage.

"The parasite’s skin splits, spraying the carpet with acid.
Limbs erupt from its shoulders and haunches. Spines from its
back. Metamorphosis.

With a crack of carapace, its head swings down from its
serpentine position. It becomes a devil with an lethal,
elongated skull. An Alien"

*Spaights Alien Engineers PG 92

Holloways Alien Chest Buster was described like a Worm  (latter in the draft) and also like a Octopus with a head. I cant help but imagine this scene from The Eel Short movie.

It seemed to move around and be able to flatten itself to fit through gaps, but latter it evolves into something that has a structure.  And so maybe like the few seconds after in The Eel movie at between 4:05 and 4:25

Now its got me thinking about the one rumor that was requested to be taken down about how the Aliens move around that may divide fans.....   We then had it was like a Jack in the Box and it was like a Octopus like Spaights draft.

Well what if the limbs of a creature and i will use Spaights Holloway Xenomorph as a example, what if its Octopoid limbs where like a Penis?

Not being rude lol, i mean how they can have a Muscle that gives the Limb a different flexibility of movement one way, but then it can make its self harder like a erect penis to make the limbs more like Limbs and Bones that can support a different kind of movement.   and then it can relax its muscles or internal biology to become more Flaccid to fit in tight spaces?

Awesome, BigDave. Awesome and disgusting. :) That short film monster (after jumping out) resembles the alien in the movie The Thing in my opinion - the scene where a human head grows spider legs. :)

chli --- Thanks, you made me happy for a whole week. :)

If we go back to the Spore again though

Looks like some kinds of Echinosphaerites (cystoid) which are Echinoderms

Trilobite (Prometheus) and octopus:

BigDave

MemberDeaconFeb-08-2017 3:48 PM

The Spore inside itself looks like a Echinodermata Antedon and Comatula Comanthus

Again related to the family Crinoids which again like Cystoids are a Echinoderm

Here they are swimming and note its similar to how the Spore moves to the ear.

So many interesting organisms in the order of Echinoderm that also have bizarre life cycles and true regenerative abilities.

The Eel video is related to Echinoderms and so was the Elder Things from HP Lovecrafts At the Mountains of Madness which Star Beast and Prometheus borrowed some ideas from.

Just leave this here too..

Indeed ATI they did design the Trilobite off Molluscoid and with a pinch of salt, i was told they ideas behind the Original Parasites was to take references from Molluscoid's but mainly the  Echinoderm/Cystoidea

BigDave, you are an insider. :D

Charlie's eyeworm and tadpoles:

BigDave

MemberDeaconFeb-08-2017 4:38 PM

Who can forget the eyeworm ;)

Indeed this was something that maybe got overlooked, and its why my theory was that the Ampoules contained maybe a Parasite in the Top and the other part of the Urns acted the same as the Sacrificial Goo and thus breaking down the Parasites DNA.

Its just one of the Two ways i look at the Black Goo.

And so in this case, it was not mutated Sperm, but a Parasite that Holloway passed on just the same as a Sexually Transmitted Disease, but then again it could be mutated Sperm that then decided to wander around Holloways Body

And this is the Octo-Facehugger mentioned by ALIEN426:

The Octo-Facehugger was a Xenomorph creature cut from Prometheus early in its production. In Jon Spaihts' original script, titled Alien: Engineers, it was an Octo-Facehugger that impregnated Holloway with an embryo, which later hatched into the Beluga-Xenomorph. The Octo-Facehugger was entirely written out of the finished film.

The Octo-Facehuggers are found inside the Engineer temple on LV-426 by Holloway, contained within molluscoid, egg-like sacs found inside honeycomb-like recesses on the ceiling of a large chamber. One of the creatures subdues and impregnates Holloway. Jocelyn Watts later finds the chamber where the Octo-Facehuggers are held, although she flees before rousing any of them.
