MemberNeomorphJan-08-2017 10:51 PMiv not seen the blue ray discs of Prometheus but I believe there is quite a bit of extra information provided in these files. my question is mostly centered around weyland acknowledging that they are aware of the signal coming from lv426, though I don't believe he doesn't go into the specifics of the signal so this signal may be different to the warning found in alien, but if it is the warning message and if ridley was the one who wanted this bit of info put the, then is it safe to say the derelict has been there for a very long time?
Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerJan-08-2017 11:20 PMIf we assume that those DVD extras are, in fact, canon, then the derelict has been broadcasting the signal since before prometheus left. Anything more specific than that would require on screen archaeological investigation of that crash site.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberPraetorianJan-08-2017 11:27 PMUsually when something isn't on film,it is typically disregarded as canon. As i've stated in a separate forum i only have the basic dvd(no bluray,im a cheap ass)therefore dont much about The Weyland Files. Is there anywhere on the internet where they can be read?

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 1:02 AMyea think u and I spoke about this and neither of us have seen the blue ray, I think it depends on if it has been ridley who has put them in or not tho either way it could just be for some interesting extra viewing on the blue ray version. I haven't thought about where it could be on the internet to read, maybe if u google 'prometheus:blue ray edition', the wiki description may have some info on the blue ray extras

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 1:17 AMiv had a quick google for the written diologue of what weyland says but am having difficuly finding anything but someone has posted on another thred on here the content of the file but im not sure which thread its on, it describes weylands intention to visit lv426 as it 'holds greater rewards but at greater risk'
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 1:38 AMI just tried a little search of my own.No luck either.A lot of the viral marketing videos pop up but I've seen those.

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 1:51 AMim having the same problems. like urself I was unaware until someone mentioned the files on another thread that weyland knows of lv426, someone has given a detailed written descripting of the file in question and it is clear from this that weyland intended to go there at a later date, probably straight after lv223 if that mission was a success. while the crew is sleeping david is obviously trying to communicate with someone as while he is at a terminal he is told 'no reponse'. if the file wer discussing is canon and weyland knows about the signal on lv426, it is plausible david has orders to attempt communication with lv426 while the crew is asleep as we r given no knowledge either before or even during the events on lv223 of any signal, tho david could be just trying to get a read on if there is life on lv223 but I find it interesting weyland already says lv426 is the greater reward so what if... david is told to attempt communication with lv426 and if communication is successful he is to redirect the Prometheus to lv426, which he could do easily as no one is awake to stop him
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 2:01 AMYeah i saw someone else like you said thar David might just be trying to estabish contact with life on lv 223,but we do know at some point in time that the company i aware of the signal broadcasting from lv 426 thus the Nostromo being diverted there.I also found a weyland corporation site, perhaps theres something there.

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 2:07 AMcould shed some light, let us know if it comes to anything plz
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 2:31 AMI was just checking it out.Its actually Weyland industries,i think it may have also been part of prometheus's viral marketing because it sort looks like a business site they might have were real.I'll keep looking into it.

MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 2:44 AMI found an old forum on avpgalaxy.net that says the Weyland Files are more like easter eggs than canon but it was a discussion people were having back in 2013 so i wouldnt read to much into it

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 2:47 AMfrom what I gather the whole avp experience is to be forgotten, at least the movies. the comics and books r good reads tho and I wouldn't cringe at the thought of someone having another bash at it but only if its done properly. but for now I wouldn't put too much into what was said on that forum
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 2:55 AMYeah the avp films are crap, you are right about some decent books. The only comic i read was terrible i still have it for some reason.Theres some decent games too.Fun fact:Sigourny Weaver wanted to be killed in Alien 3 because she thought the idea of avp was terrible and didn't want to do it.As for avpgalaxy i dont know much about them so yeah i wont put much stock in it.

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 3:02 AMyea I heard about that aswell but she also liked the idea of mating with a xeno in alien3 so not sure where her head was at lol I loved the thought of the crossover and to be fair, it was the fans own fault. for years fans kept asking about 'who would win?' and im sure Hollywood got the impression a crossover film was what we all wanted and im sure they were right, just wasn't done well. should taken place in the future on another planet in my opinion
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 3:08 AMWho ever wins we loose. That was for godamn sure yet i saw it the weekend it opened

MemberNeomorphJan-09-2017 3:17 AMit certainly had a huge interest on what it was going to be like as there is a huge following of both the alien and the predator, hence the reason it wasn't a financial bomb and we got a sequal
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 3:28 AMThe funny part is i read the novelization of it before i saw it and didnt realize how much of disaster it was going to be.Talk about being pretty naive.

MemberFacehuggerJan-09-2017 3:33 AMRidley Scott did approve the weyland files going into the DVD. He also mentioned in interviews that LV-223 was in zeta 2 Reticuli. He kind of needs the Weyland files to shore up the plot hole of "if they went to the same system as LV-426, and the derelict is old; why didn't David react to the transmission?"

my thoughts exactly. he used this method to insert details he could fit into the movie. so then the derelict has been there for a very long time

MemberFacehuggerJan-09-2017 4:19 PMI can't find them specifically, they were written commentary on the marketing videos.

MemberPraetorianJan-09-2017 9:08 PMI thought for sure it would have been on the avp wiki but they're not.copyright laws perhaps
