We all can agree that Alien and prometheus come with strong doses of fascinating, and philosophical construct..........

Then i forget to remind myself that this is a space horror film.....

I think Ridley is going to deliver his promise of

".....scare the s*** out of you".

(To the reader)...What fictional scene would utterly make you run out of the theaters?

flying popcorn......

this topic is for the spoiler in you  ;)

please scare the crap out of us Ridley lol

we can't wait. :)

Huh.  You know, I see movies as being the great escape from reality.  Much like in the 1030's when a great depression swept the land, and people could forget their troubles for a couple of hours.  In this day and age, it seems the big screen experience is still alive and well.

And this popcorn needs more salt.

Flying Popcorn...I like that title ;)

Well, I'm kinda weird. You see I tend to view some scary scenes as amusing! I would never run out of the Cinema, I sit there till the credits are over! :D

Take Prometheus for example, I found much of it amusing, and the Millburn and Fifield hammerpede scene was hilarious!

A L I E N was truly scary though, after I first saw it, I was terrified of being alone in the dark or walking home at night.

I'm happy to wait and see what Sir Ridley comes up with....hopefully a very creepy, beautiful, terrifying, claustrophobic, hugely enjoyable experience! However, there must be a ships cat on board!

For real scare factor A L I E N, HALLOWEEN, BUG, and THE EXORCIST top my list.

THE EXORCIST still creeps me out more than any other film....

Pazuza....*shudders*

Nice thread :)

Funnily enough I was looking to see a good, scary horror from more recent times - 'It Follows, 2015' seems to be highly recommended so will look to see that soon!  Anyone seen it?

As a younger viewer, traditional gore, body horror and 'flying popcorn' scares used to do the trick - now, as an adult (well, in body if nothing else ;) I need more cerebral scares.  I find that allowing the audience to imagine a horror, particularly if empathy and audience engagement are present, can be more effective than 'in your face' scare techniques:  That's probably due to desensitisation and post modern era fatigue on my part! :)

That said, body horror can work if it's done effectively.  I would like to see a mix of these scare types in AC.

OK here goes:  For body horror, I think seeing a sex scene that ends in a chestbursting could be very horrific if done right. (not original, I know ;)

- I love you . . . oh YES!  Mrs* is wrapped around Mr* tightly.  Her legs completely pulled around him and getting tighter, drawing him closer and closer. The embrace is total and almost aggressively possessive.

- Oh yeah  . . . oh yeah . . me too baby . . . God!  Mr* is almost pulled into Mrs* by her shear animalistic strength and desire.  They are as one - a fragile ship on a stormy sea.

- Oh God . . . GOD . . . GOOOOOOOD!!!  Mrs*'s cries ramp up - is that pain?  Anger?  carnal desire?

- Oh yeah, yeah . . . Mr* is fully immersed and ready . . .

-GOOOOOOOOD!!!  Her cries are now a definite scream, more high pitched, immediate, volatile

- Yeah baby, yeah, YEAH . . . Mr* is almost matching the thrusts and pulls of Mrs* - he is almost there . . .

- GOOO  . . . creature bursts from Mrs*'s chest and directly into the sternum of Mr*  . . . ARGGGGHHH!

- What . . .the . . .fuc . . . ARGHHH!

Ridley, that will cost you but I'm happy to discuss terms, lol ;)

From a more cerebral scare I like the idea of David creating something horrific that we only guess at.  It breathes, it moves, it kills, we see it has intelligence & cunning, an agenda if you will, and we know it's coming for the crew.  Add to this a bit of sabotage and impending isolation and dread for the crew and you have some real Hithcockian tension; added to our minds imagining a monster more terrifying than we would have at first thought; and knowing that our new friends aboard the Covenant will soon be be coming acquainted with this beast(s)!  (I realise Ive pretty much just described ALIEN there lol ).

The key here, for me, is to allow us to have an idea of what is coming but not give us full insights/reveal - perhaps save this for one final scare?!  Ridley could play on our expectations here and really use some slight of hand and rather naughty twists in the tail.  I think this is at least one way that AC may approach the dark themes and scares . . .

I'm sure others could put forward some much better ideas than that - one thing I am getting more confident of though is that AC is going to surprise a lot of people with its darkness and horror . . . Let's hope so :)

@HG   I remember that Twighlight Zone clip scaring the bejeesuz out of me when I was about 7!  Never knew it was Dan Aykroyd until I saw that image :) You've just sent me down a YouTube black hole to the TZ now . . . ;)

Apparently he lost some weight for that role?

Lone: Sorry but I just think that the Hammerpede scene with Milburn and Fifield was so stupid so I don't have words for it. There was a cut scene that made that scene more understandable but they cut it out. If they would have kept that scene there it would have been more understandable but the way it became in the movie was just stupid.

As far as movies go the only one that scares me and have done so as far as I remember is the Exorcist.

HAWLEY GRIFFIN - After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I will require a much more psychological series of "scares" to set my nerves on edge. The more vague and implied the horror is, the more it tends to frighten me! :)

I remember the original "Jaws" movie, where the dead body pops into view of the diver.  Some dude threw up his arms and sent a large coke flying all over the crowd, about 3-4 rows back.  So like all these people are screaming, and you can't figure out who's scared and who's pissed off.
