In anticipation for the new Alien Covenant. I wonder if the mysterious murals as seen in "Prometheus", will be shown more in depth in the new upcoming film.

there are also things like this:

The bio mechanical waterfalls

The unused "Jodorowski's dune" menacing road that leads to the tomb "silos"

I think we have seen this piece used in the Shaw's "baby" scene, as it inpregnates the engineer at the end of "Prometheus"...it's back flinching, as it died.

It's a wonderful mystery I'd love to see unfold in Ridley's newest addition.

Always interested in everyone's thoughts and theories..:)

I would've loved them to have (wish they had) explored the other 4 silos/temples in Prometheus, where I reckon different species were and hence different murals ... so unless there are more silos (or similar) in AC I don't think we will ... that's my guess ...

@Gem]n[

I know what you mean Gem]n[, Im thinking we (may?) see some connection to them maybe?...since this disaster needs to be more explained

idk...but u have a good point, you are right about those other silos, i forgot about them and agree it would have been awesome to explore them...trully interesting to think about the different other life forms in them! ;D

I wonder if David and Shaw somehow rigged the silo/temple to be destroyed? Would make sense to destroy the temples....But maybe they(Fox, Ridley) want LV223 for future adventures.

Myself...I would have set the Juggernauts to self destruct in their hangars.

I expect to see massive temples on Paradise, with incredible murals....LV223 was a little settlement...a small backwoods church.

Paradise should have millions of temples?

Centauri

MemberPraetorianJun-19-2016 6:36 AM

@ MonsterZero

That is an interesting concept about destroying the silos, it would definatly make sense for shaw to do that with the derelict ship if she was so concerned about earth beying destroyed. That would have been smart and helped before she headed to the engine home planet.

I agree there would be some kind of temples on the home planet with "alien religious" structures, since those silos are "tombs" having significant relics of worship such as glifs and murals...(even tho they were dangerous domes holding bio weapons on a separate planet).

yea, LV223 seems to be untouched for now....wonder what we will see, a clearer explanation of this scene of the engineer holograms "evacuation records" scene...

also, when all the engineers ran into the tomb where the one engineer got decapitated by door.....where did the rest of the engineers go once they entered that room? if they are all stacked against that wall, what and where were they trying to go? it seems like they were climbing over each other, but to where?

@BRG

I always thought the Engineers were seeking the safety of the room?....Whatever was pursuing them wouldn't step on holy ground?! A vampire like being? .........Or just the safety of a HUGE strong door!

Thoughts_Dreams

MemberNeomorphJun-19-2016 10:08 AM

MonsterZero: That is a possibility, they are clearly running away from something. It is a disappointment that we never got shown what they were running away from. Maybe they ran away from one of their experiments that went wrong?

Gem]n[

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2016 10:46 AM

@ MZ ... agreed ... that would make sense to blow the place to hell if she 'was' that concerned ...

I also don't think it would've been a religous (or Holy ground) thing ... I personally don't think that organism/creature would give a sh!t :) ...

@BRG ... yeah ... where did they go? ... they would've been preserved just like the head ...

Re: The other door (Millburn & Fifield found) ... where there were 10+ other Engineers piled up, why didn't the crew get 'that' door re-opened (by David)? ... or did that door lead to the Orrery room? ... hence 4 made it to the chambers, but 3 still got blasted? ... lack of priorities and sillyness didn't really help that expidition ...

@ TD ... yes I reckon they were running from their own creation ... possible another Mr T (Trilobite)? ... or another deacon, which would make sense if one was infected previously by Mr T (back when the hologram was recorded)?, as we do know the outcome of that process :) ... but we would've expected some evidence of something, surely? ...

Fantastic movie but all that production value and so many unanswered questions ... more so if we won't be re-visiting LV-233 ...

@ThoughtsUntoDreams I believe Gem is referring to how the Trilobite, (the insane creature formed from Shaw's daughter), that later grows to a frightening size to overcome the recently Hypersleep Engineer in the Grounded Med Evac Ship

TrilobitevsEngineer

Thus Birthing a much more Refined & Truly Genetically Processed Organism known as the Deacon to wreck forth havoc on LV-223 over a Decade leading up to events in a year from now's Alien: Covenant ^_^

Ever since Prometheus, the mural scene always puzzled me; when the "atmosphere was affected" and the mural began to change. To this day I still feel like this was an "alteration of reality", a crossing of timelines in space time. The mural likely depicted one ultimatum but with the crew's arrival at LV-223, that changed the course of events to come.

With that in mind, I would assume that the timeline has been infinitely altered, but as we know, the end result will not change. What that is we have yet to see, but I'm sure we could see more murals in Alien: Covenant.

The real question is, will we be seeing the "original" murals? Or the already altered murals from when the timeline changed in Prometheus?

Regarding the Mural, i dont want to get into a debate about them as its been covered and maybe best link to other Topics.  Only so we dont get much clutter but i am willing to try and give a nut shell opinion LOL

Will we see more Murals in Alien Covenant?

I think we should maybe get some sort of evidence regarding Engineers and their Hierarchy that could be similar be it Mural, Fresco, Statues, Hieroglyphs etc.  I think ultimately they would not completely bypass Prometheus and its unanswered Questions...  they may be going a route to step away from Prometheus, but they are as far as we know on Paradise, the location the Engineers on LV-223 came from and they are going to attempt to show us Why they would make such Evil Biology and if we are not going to see David talking to a bunch of Engineers all the time then YES Murals, Frescos, Artefacts, Hieroglyphs and Statues/Monuments  with David someone explaining to the Covenant Crew/Audience what they could mean would be a way to tackle some of those Questions.

BLADERUNNERGUNNER - There is no doubt in my mind that there will be more art and murals. As a matter of fact, I have a suspicion that some of those murals might be alive - living, breathing, biomechanical art that also serves as a mausoleum and databank for the collective knowledge of the people whom created it. We are in for a frightening and thought-provoking experience. :)

As far as LV-223 this is a potential Plot Hole within the Franchise... but we have covered this before.. but yes seeing LV-223 being destroyed or the Temples/Technology being rendered useless would be ideal.

But its a case of would Shaw be willing to risk her life going into the Temples, i think she would want to find the Nearest Juggernaught and get the Hell out of their and leave the SOS Warning.

Once Shaw is in Cryo-Sleep David would be free to explore LV-223 for sure, but i dont think we would be seeing much of David and Shaw from when she had his head in the bag and on the Buggy/ATV to when the Juggernaught had taken off.... infact with Shaw well Rappace not playing a role then i cant see any such things happening.

The Source who claimed to have knowledge of the older Prometheus 2 Draft, seemed to hint that we would not see such things either.

But at some point between Prometheus timeline of 2094 and Alien 2122 but especially Aliens in 2179 i would think maybe something could happen to LV-223 to render it of no use?

As far as Shaw and David, and destroying anything... it would depend what Davids Agenda is, would he agree with doing this.... and then its how do they destroy the Facilities?

On to Prometheus and the Big Head/Ampoule Room etc.

I have studied the movie in depth and the Door with the Decapitated Engineer and the Door with the Piled up Engineers all lead to the same Room.

From what we can gather, this room is maybe Sterile and its Atmosphere may somehow have a effect on halting the effects of the Black Goo, when sealed off.  I think the Space Jockey Suits play such a role too, essentially the same as the facilities that are used to produce the silicone and transistors on integrated components especially CPU’s such as at Intel.

These suits are worn to not contaminate the manufacturing process, and i think the ampoule Room and Space Jockey Suits function the same way.

Maybe the suits have another use too, but the

Facility had a breathable atmosphere and deleted shots taken of the Engineer running across LV-223 from the Crashed Juggernaught to the Prometheus Lifeboat show the Engineers can breathe outside on the LV-223 surface.

So i speculate that this sterile room maybe halts the effect of the Black Goo, and preserves things, this is why the Head was in a good state of preservation but that soon deteriorated when it got back to Prometheus.  This is maybe why the Frescos decayed too.

The Room was such a Sterile Environment for thousands if not at least hundreds of years that all off a sudden exposure to contaminated Air, or even the Humans presence without their Masks (Co2) drastically had a effect on the Room.

The Engineers may have been trying to get their if they was infected and getting to that Room they would be able to maybe prevent the infection by at first slowing down the process and then maybe they have a cure?

This would explain why they all wanted to get to the room...

I make this theory because Shaw did mention about a Outbreak and she has seen something similar before (Ebola in Africa) and her comments when studying the Head.

And also regarding the Engineer Bodies, the Headless Engineer had a preserved head  inside the Helmet, but the body never had any bones it looked Hollow, and so did some of the other dead bodys.

Why? How?

If we assume and look at the Sacrificial Scene we see the Engineer is broken down every single Molecule, and then we see the Engineer Head Explodes.

If we assume the Engineer being broken down is a violent chemical reaction just like when you but a Mento into Cola,  if you do that and put the top on quick then the reaction is contained within a pressured canister and it becomes very violent and then any piercing of that bottle will result in a explosion.

If prior to adding the Mint, you made a few pin holes but then patched them up with lots of tape.... poured Cola in the bottle it would hold ok... for a while.

No soon as you add the Mento/Mint the chemical reaction contained within would look for the easiest way out and it would explode out of those tapped up holes.

What if a similar Goo related Reaction occurred to the Engineers and this is why we have holes in the suits, they suffered a similar violent chemical reaction within the pressured Suits and it exploded.

Thats best theory i have, the other is yes some Xeno/Deacon chased them down and killed them, but why did those Engineers not run off why all wait at that door, there was space to run to other parts.

The infection that can be halted by going to the Big Head Room seems to fit all the evidence we are shown.

Yes Something Real

The Engineers are very Ritual and Artistic, and they take great pride in the recording of History, Achievements etc just as we do.

They even have use for Music as far as manipulating sound waves for some purpose.

The deleted scenes and even scene we never been shows the Last Engineer was very interested in the Violin Girl and also the Books in Vickers Suite.

And so yes, Paintings, Murals, Statues, Writings on Stone Walls, Tablets etc would be and would play a important role for sure.

Just as it did for the Ancient Egyptians and Mayans etc.

@Mizikame & TD ... yes sorry, I have ammened my above comment ... the Trilobite ... others on here have refferred to it as Mr T ...

@Chris ... I get what you're saying ... and yes if they were not disturbed, what would they look like? ... we do know though that the mural that 'changed' was an image of an egg with alien hands around it (Prometheus - The Art of the Film) ...

The Mural That Changed:
https://i.imgur.com/QL5eXMm.jpg

@Dave ... good explanation regarding the goo and it's destructive use ... but ... that still doesn't explain where or what happened to the few that actually made it through the door, before it closed ... where are they? ... they should be in the room, along with the head surely? ... i.e. ALL preserved? ... I counted 7 (maybe more?) engineers running down the holographic tunnel footage ... so that (at least) means there should be 6 that made it into the ampule room ... the other 10+ at the other door obviously didn't make it (wherever they were headed for) ... I personally don't see any evidence of other doors leading to the ampule room ...

BigDave

MemberDeaconJun-20-2016 8:13 AM

Yes it would be safe to assume that 6-7 at least made it to the Big Head Room...

What happened after this? is any ones guess and its a complete mystery all we know is there are none there when Prometheus and its crew arrived... apart from the Last Engineer.

*Did they bunker down and how long for?

*Did they manage to escape the Facility and escape LV-223

*Is one of them the Space Jockey or is the Space Jockey a event prior to the Outbreak?

*Did any of them return to Earth to continue to show us warnings? or was the Star Maps after 2000 years ago just a re-telling of information passed from culture to culture?

*Did they eventually get killed by something Evolved or loose on LV-223 (but we dont see any bodys within that temple mound) apart from those pilled up... but the crew of Prometheus never explored every inch of the compound.

Looking at the map from what i remember the room where the dead bodys where seemed to only have two entrances though but where Milburn and Fifield were was close to the room where the rest entered via the door David opened.

I will have to study the map again.

Chris

AdminEngineerJun-20-2016 10:03 AM

What if the Engineers who's bodies we find later on (when Fifield and Millburn diacover them) are the same Engineers we saw running into the Ampule room? What if a Xenomorph or Xenomorph like creature, managed to pick them off, drag them up some ventilation shaft (as Aliens like to do) and stacked the bodies where we find them, in prep to receive impregnation or straight up murder?

Although I will say, I'm way more fond of Big Dave's theory, about the room being a containment protocol and the matter having got loose was more of that black goo the sacrificial Engineer used at the start of Prometheus. It makes a lot of sense and would explain the preservation state of the head, along with its subsequent explosion later on. It also does explain why the dead bodies stacked looked hollow as if the biological material inside evaporated or was somehow exploded outwards.

This should be added to my "What happened to the Engineers on LV-223" topic! Hahaha

I really hope there are NO more murals. The franchise has fallen far from the genuinely alien feeling, into the mediocre clichés synonymous with B-movie creature-features.

MemberNeomorphJan-15-2017 4:28 AM

I didn’t like the explanation with the murals because it really required too much attention to detail and it is simply too much. This was too vague and I bet that Lindelof had something to do with that although I don’t have anything to back that up but it fits his vague style of telling stories. No more murals and a coherent story is what I am hoping for. Some ambiguity is fine but not too much and Prometheus had too much and answered many things in a bad way.

It looks like the Ancient Culture Aesthetic is in place for the most part.

So i am not sure if we have any Murals relating to the Xeno and Experiments... i would assume those Horrors were created on LV-223

But maybe David has created his own though, as he copies the Engineers by creating Murals to highlight Davids own creations.

If Ridley wants to connect the Xenomorph and WHY etc but we have no Engineers maybe in this movie, i think they would have to find ways to give us some visual clues... without having to show us events.

I think this was the purpose of the Prometheus Mural and Frescos..  but as far as seeing similar in AC... they way it looks now i think its maybe unlikely?

As far as Statues and Murals dedicated to the Engineers and so some Frescos etc that would be like Ancient Cultures on Earth, then i think for certain we would see these..

Just not any Alien/Xeno related ones
