Okay, so we all know that the original theme was not included in the new movie.

....Or was it??

Many of the tracks composed by Alenxandre Desplat seem to have VERY similar ques to the original. The notes, the timing, the pace, all rather familiar in structure. See for yourself:

Was this intentional? Was it a coincidence? You decide.

Wow, those actually do fit! I mean, they arent direct copies, but stilll...Pretty interesting. Who knows? Maybe there are even more connections to make with other Godzilla related scores from Ikufube.

Huh. I never noticed before. But it would make sense for the original theme/score to inspire the new one.

I mean, no they still weren't the same themes and they didn't make it into the movie. Yet I have no doubt there was some intentional regard for Ifukube since Edwards mentioned Desplat's score sounded similar.

It still would have been nice to have the real theme in the movie.

NATEZILLA10000 - I certainly agree that Desplat's compositions without a doubt pay wonderful homage to Ifukube's original score! I was frightened that the new film's score might be overly, hmm, "Americanized". However, the end result was a fantastic surprise! :)

There is no doubt in my mind that Alexandre Desplat was at the very least familiar with Ifukube's work on the series and consulted it prior to creating his score for the movie. Gareth Edwards had even mentioned at one point before the film was released that fans familiar with Ifukube's work would enjoy Desplat's score. The repitition of many cues and notes used in Ifukube's iconic Godzilla Theme throughout the film's score are a testament to that. While I would have preferred for at least one actual Ifukube theme to appear in the film to some extent, I was content with Desplat's score and found it fitting for a Godzilla film.

Also, I've noticed that a few cues in the film are slightly reminiscent of Riichiro Manabe's Godzilla theme, especially in the tracks "The Wave" and "Godzilla's Victory," though this could very possibly just be coincidence.

I'm very fond of the 2014 movie's theme, and every time I hear it it reminds me of the awesome experience of watching it in theaters.

But I do agree, it would have been  really awesome to have the original theme in the movie.

Similar but still not the same to me; but in fact it was mentioned the composer studied Ifukube's work in order to create a good score for  a G movie. I need to say that in the sequence where Godzilla roars right after killing the female Muto, the holding note and the cue used there are almost identical to the initial fanfare like sound in an Ifukube's composition. I cannot recall the name of the melody right now, but it isn't kaiju related though.

But at least there are always notes or works that sounds similar to others. Porky's theme from the game Mother 3 featured in Super Smash Bros. shocked me the first time I heard it, and a little cousin of mine was agree with me by saying it sounded pretty much like the themes from old kaiju movies. I tried to find out if the composer was related to Ifukube somehow, but I couldn't find the connection though....

^Hm. Never noticed that.

I'd say the new theme is heavily inspired by the classic, but not the same.

So I'm not the only one who thought the scene with his spikes sounded like it? Awesome
