sorry for our soul, prometheus 2 cancelled in 2016

The March 2016 release date was never officially confirmed by Fox as belonging to Prometheus 2 in the first place. Not ever. It was first announced as a "Untitled Ridley Scott Science Fiction" in the beginning of the year, nothing more.

Let me repeat: all reports that linked the March 2016 release date to Prometheus 2 were just wrong guesses based on hearsay by unconfirmed sources.

There was a website that received intel from "insiders" that that was the case, but all doubt was erased when on June 24th (one and a half month ago) the producer confirmed that The Martian was going to begin filming in the fall.

As far as we know, Prometheus 2 hasn't been officially cancelled, either. It's just not going to begin shooting anytime soon.

Pretty much thats what happened and besides having a release date that far in the future isnt something to take seriously and Prometheus 2 is still going to happen. Its going to be a while and I'm pretty patient for the next one.

I highly doubt Prometheus 2 won't be made. Or 3 for that matter. There's too much potential there, it's too unique a property not to be expanded.

What we all are concerned with I think is that Ridley be the one to make it, and we fear the clock is ticking on that one. I think he'll do it, or make damn sure it's done to his liking. I admire his work ethic, it must be amazing to have so many great ideas to play with, and outlets for their realization. Ridley gets it, he wants it, I'd say the only thing missing is patience. That goes for me, too. 

I don't mind the wait, I just can't make up my mind wether i want a film that answers all the questions, Or another headshrinker that gives me more questions than answers, I don't post very often, But i still read this site every day, And i suppose that's the magic of the film (good or bad) I,ve problably seen the film over a hundred times now and some days it drives me barmy and on other days I think it's a work of genius. Keep up the good work people!!!

The movie will be made, because aside from Blade Runner the Alien Franchise is one of the most successful movies Ridley has been part of, and due to other comitments he was not part of the other movies and thus he did not have creative control over how the Xeno would Evolve.

If Ridley has been the Producer etc of Alien Part 2, maybe we would not have seen a Queen, maybe we would have expored the MORPH aspect, but as Ridley was not part of those movies then they went off on their own tangent.

None of the other movies answered some of the bigger questions, well ok AVP did answer in its own way to some degree first 2.

1) What are the Xeno Orgins and Purpose.

2) What was the Origins of Weyland Company.

But not maybe as far as Alien Canon, for this these was questions Ridley could answer in any proposed Alien Prequel, but the other bigger Question the one thing that never got a mention again after Alien was the SPACE JOCKEY.

3) Who was the Space Jockey? His purpose? Why that Cargo.

This is what Ridley based the reasons for doing Prometheus and during the draft stages the broad idea was changed a bit and we was given that they was in part our CREATORS, by going that route they open a tricky topic but also one with massive scope.

The Xeno was then some kind of Bio Weapon that these Engineers was also experimenting with to produce a variety of kinds, but we never still had the exact Orgins of the Orginal Organism only hints that maybe a Organism was experimented and re-engineered.

The drafts was changed again to tone down the Xeno elements.

What we was left with was a movie that in trying to answer who the Space Jockey was, and connection to the Xeno, the movie gave us more questions than answers.

Fan reaction was mixed, some fans wanted more answers, some wanted to be given the Xeno Orgins.

These criticisms from some fans, would be stuff Fox and Ridley could take on board for a sequel.

SO AS OF THIS MOMENT......

The Xeno Orgins and Purpose and Agenda of the Engineers/Space Jockey are still pretty much Mystreys as far as being spelled out for us.....

So Ridley set off to answer these with Prometheus but at the planning stages we got a movie that losely gave us clues but not ANSWERS....

HERE IS WHY THE MOVIE WOULD BE MADE...

Alien was one of Ridleys babys.. he lost control of how the movie franchise Evolved, but was given the job to give us a prequel and thus answer the Mystrey of who the Space Jockey was, where did the Xeno come from and why?

With Prometheus not really answering that, in a clear way Ridley still has the chance to give us those answers in a more clear way, and thus influence how the Xeno came to be and who the Space Jockey was its connection to the Engineers and who the Engineers creators and Agenda is.

Because if Ridley does not answer these, and at his age he cant leave them unanswered for another 10 years because we just cant be sure that in 10 years or so he would be up for it or around in order to ANSWER those questions and thus for Ridley to stamp his mark on how the Xeno and Space Jockey and connections came to be.

Otherwise just as he lost influence on Aliens, someone else could be given the job and then answer those questions in ways that could make Ridley turn in his grave..

I dont think Ridley would want to see that happen to a chance for him to make a big mark on the Alien Franchise by giving us its Orgin and Purpose and why the Space Jockeys had them.

For this reason i think Ridley would want to work on a sequel sooner rather than latter and even if he does not have the full Production to himself, i am sure even if he cant direct it, that he has already sat down with Fox and said what way Ridley wants those questions answered and thus he would have a lot of input into how the Franchise carries on.

Another reason for sooner rather than Latter!

The Clif Hanger that gave us Shaw and David on a Engineer Ship off to seek the World where these Engineers and their creators came from, Can Ridley wait till Fasbender has aged 10 years or so?

For these reasons i think we would see Prometheus Part 2 started on and finished some time next year to some degree and released i would say 2018/2019 at latest.  so i assume production to start in fall 2015 or 2016, i cant see Ridley not start this project latter than 3 years from now..

Speaking exclusively for myself, I care more about whether Scott will direct the sequel than whether it will be made or not.

And it will be made, eventually. Two screenwriters have worked on it already.

Yeah its tough to accept, but it was still expected. I agree that it will be made. No way Fox ditches this property. I definitely think Ridely qill make it...90% sure he will be the director. Something I think has been overlooked is the people surroundind him when it happens. I hope he gets the best talent he can find for the movie in all aspects when it finally comes together. To have Prometheus 2 be good in the ways that th first may have come short on(opinions vary greatly on what exactly those are) Ridely needs help. Heres to hoping that Prometheus is out before 2018!
