First, I just joined so if this question is already answered please forgive me. Why is the new alien born at the end of the movie called "Deacon"? I'm just curious. Also, in the scene where David tells Shaw that she's pregnant, look at the plexiglass behind her to the right. There is the shadow of a man looking at equipment and then folding his arms. It's clearly not David; it's a larger man, plus when they cut back, David is standing with his arms down. When they cut back to Shaw, the man is gone. Just noticed that the other night on my like 25th viewing of the movie. I freaking love this film. Love the Weyland imprint on David's fingertip as his print - very clever. I can't wait for the sequel. Gonna be awesome! I would like to see the ship they leave that planet on end up where "Alien" takes place; that would make the most sense to me since we see it there anyway. And with the mutations that had already started taking place, it's not unlikely that another mutation made its way on to their ship when they left. It is after all a common thread in each of the movies. Looking forward to more conversation here!

The Deacon is so named because his head resembles the hat a Catholic Clergy member called a 'Deacon' wears. Hadn't noticed that shadow, but i will be watching for it next time!

Welcome aboard kennyone! I'll be looking out for that shadow too. You came to the right place for great Prometheus discussion! :-)

Thanks for posting. Are you aware of the engineer burned face alternating to his face not being burned ? As well as the bottle remaining upright after vickers lifeboat crashed ? Welcome !!!

That's pretty neat, I'll look for that next time I watch. :)

Aint continuity a bitch! Welcome Kenny1. Also why was the Engineer able to run from his crashed ship to the life pod without his helmet..... before anyone says that he was able to breath the natural atmosphere, why then did the Engineers develop an Earth like atmosphere within the Pyramid?

You noticed a mistake or two...million :P . But brego actually that was one of the more 'I can let that one go' type things - he was wearing a bio suit after all and they are extremely tough kind of super human beings. So holding breath or gills in the suit allowing say 20 minutes staying alive in the atmosphere doesn't sound too crazy no?

Ha Ha... Mistakes in a Ridley Scot movie....? Never lol Yeah there are some but to be fair its common for movies to have mistakes, some are hardly noticeable.... Such as things like Bottles of Booze moving from one side to another, i am not talking about Prometheus but other movies.... Goofs is what they are called... Anyway if you like eye for detail at mistakes, you should take a good look at the Mysterious Last Engineer... Now you see it now you dont, now you do again and now you dont and oh i do again.. Face Burn Scene...... And i dont mean the deleted scene where he is not burnt but the theatrical one.... I have viewed this piece by piece and sussed out a another added part and know what the missing part must been... and it essentially gives us more of link to the Xeno ;)

Re the engineer being able to walk from the crashed Juggernaut to the lifeboat, already answered for numerous times, like above lol - his pressure suit - also, I thought it was obvious that their flight suits doubled as hazmat suits, they were creating deadly, viral bio-weapons after all. What's the difference with a lab containing biotech where scientists wear hazmat suits in a otherwise ventilated environment? @bigdave, what's the link you're speaking of?

It wasn't such a big distance for the engineer. A man that tall, and fit, would have a huge stride, and you can hold your breath at least a couple minutes and that's all it would have taken him. That said, I wonder if the atmospheric generator was for humans and other creatures. Maybe the engineers are only part like us. Some have speculated they are part machine. I think they do need to breathe, though. Their masks in their suits even put emphasis on that in their design, with tubes coming down from the face as for air. I will look for the shadow you mention, kennyone. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have seen Prometheus dozens of times, too, and from what you describe I wonder if it wasn't one of the engineers looking on. Maybe an engineer's ghost?

Sorry guys, not buying it. Definitely a mistake. If the engineers were basically a DNA copy or original of us, it would be impossible for him to traverse that distance, jumping huge gaping chasms on his way to the life boat without taking a breath or simply putting on his helmet..

@meshuggah The link i mean is in Xeno and Shaws Baby..... If you watch the fights scene between Engineer and Cuddles, you will see that for a lot of it he has no burn then he is putting up a good fight to keep the Face Huger at bay, the part we then cut to where Cuddles has him beaten and then is able to implant the Emybro into his mouth the Engineer has his face burn... so he accuired that during the struggle, for this to make sense you have to ignore the first part of the attack where Shaw unleashes the Squid... as we get to hear a acid burn sound and see the creature grab the Engineer, but the Engineer face was burnt before the creature made contact... This adds up to the Theatrical Shot where they are going for the Engineer being burnt before the fight, and we can see this is case as he enters the lifeboat and attacks Shaw... But after Cuddles grabs the Engineer and we go to the scenes of the struggle the Engineer is not burnt at all, only just before he finally loses the battle. It is my theory based on logical outcome, that the Engineer was being beaten and as a last desperate action he tried to bite the Ttrilobite and got Acid sprayed on him... Think about most mammals, in fact most other creatures and mankind do resort to biting as a last measure, if you was grabbed in a choke hold by someone who was trying to kill you and you could not break there grip any other way then most times you would attempt to bite them. This is what i believe has happened... Thus its a Acid Burn from the Trilobite which further gives us a link to the Xeno. However the re-edit /butchering and re-shoots show us and lead to a different movie than the deleted scenes and never shown scenes, and while these to the untrained eye make sense, if you look in detail you see flaw after flaw.. in that theory.

As far as the Engineer goes.... Can they breath in Hostile Atmosphere? We have to remember LV 223 was not totally Hostile, a Human would die within minutes due to the hi levels of hazardous chemicals in the air. But the Atmosphere contains oxygen, just it also has high levels of toxins.... so its not like taking a helmet off on the moon or in space for example. Now the Engineers suit and i mean pressure suit does appear to have some kind of Gills like a Fish, they could have evolved some tech in that suit that can for a certain period of time allow them to filter and survive longer in that hostile environment. A scene was shot of him running from the Juggernaut to the Life Boat without no mask on, this is one of many scenes shot that have never been shown. The deleted scenes are not every scene that was shot. Now the Engineers was producing a breathable atmosphere inside the temple, and indeed on the Juggernauts.... Why? It can only mean.. 1) Engineers need that atmosphere but can be tolerant for periods of time to the hostile environment outside with the aid of their pressure suits. 2) They need a breathable atmosphere for Humans, as eventually the place was made for Humans to come to, or to be taken to. 3) The Xeno and Effects of the Goo need that kind of Atmosphere to become effective. Which then we have to ask why the Space Jockey Suits..... And its as meshuggah said... These suits act as a Bio Hazard suit, maybe protects them from the Goo, but i doubt that so much, but i feel it protects the Engineers from contaminating the Atmosphere. So potentially its atmospheric changes that cause the Urns well the goo inside to activate and also could be that something that we breath out and as Engineers predate us something they produce in their respiratory system could also activate the Xeno Eggs.

Yer like I said before that suit probably did have some kind of use other than to look fetching :D and I am not a lover of this film even I think its not to far off the path to think it could help keep him alive for a few minutes. Or he just basically able to hold his breath - hes a god damn super human - not exactly the same as us but similar. And theres not telling what other technologies run through his veins - nano bots back up oxygen implant etc. etc......

The distance wasn't that great, and look at what Shaw did running. The engineer could go the same distance like nothing.

We have to remember also there is no time frame on that scene... It does not apart from movie running time show how long had past from once Shaw dodged the Juggernaut and it crashed, to when Shaw was confronted by the Engineer in the Lifeboat. We cant be sure how long it took Shaw to get to the Lifeboat and then when she was on it, while the Theatrical Shot was short... The deleted one shows she spent a few minutes on board and looked around for longer. So the time it took Shaw to get some supplies, have a nose around and then sit for a rest and have a drink of Vodka Etc, could been long enough for a Engineer who lets assume would be able to run twice as fast as a average Human could.

Yeah, you can't ignore the fact that while the engineers share DNA with humans, they are not human, thus there is no telling what conditions they can withstand and their limits of survival. There is a reason they have pressure suits, for what other reason would they be designed with them in the first place? Is it really a leap that these Godly beings can withstand longer exposure to hostile atmospheres if they have to? As I said, why the pressure suit? I can't see why anybody wouldn't buy it other than a willing lack of imagination.

The Pressure suit seems to have the function of being able to protect the Engineers to excess forces of high pressured environments and also allow them to breath in some hostile environments. So to a degree they also offer some protection from some kinds of impacts and injuries, but they are not 100% Bullet Proof. The Space Jockey suits are a extension of the pressure suit and it may function as a Space Suit to allow them to breath in space etc but i think its other main function is to prevent what ever chemicals and gasses that are released from the Engineers natural respiratory system. For example CO2. And thus they act as Azmat Bio Hazard suits not so much to protect them from contamination but to prevent them from contaminating something.
