Hello everyone. I wanted to know what your guys' answers are toward these questions... A. Do you believe that Doctor Elizabeth Shaw is more of an Ancient Aliens theorist (like the ones from the History Channel Show), or a geologist? B. Do you believe that Ridley Scott and his team are getting some of their ideas from the history channel show, Ancient Aliens? C. Do you think that there is more to the Xenomorph mind that we have yet to comprehend or see? (They must have elongated skulls for something other than their tongues.) Sincerely, The First Child

A.) She definitely must have watched Ancient Aliens and has spent all her life trying to prove the connection. Wayland told her that she had convinced him to seek out these Engineers. This is interesting cause the signal from Archeaon LV 426 was discovered 34 years before the mission is sent on January 1 st 2073. This signal must have been studied and analyzed in deep by scientists and their computers. It's most likely a subject that Wayland has been interested in to keep himself alive longer to inspect the signal. The weird thing is they didn't inspect the signal but was brought to LV 223 by their expert scientists??? Maybe LV 426 is a little further out. B.)Sir Ridley Scott and his team are getting their information from real time traveling entities. Helping to add to this ancient alien religion of the ancients which was discovered by tribes people eating magic mushrooms and smokin stuff. C.)The Xenomorph mind sees without eyes and can probably comprehend our thoughts and emit a vibration that creates fear...paralyzing it's prey? I like to fantasize that both the engineers and xenomorphs are a creation of some other thing that is like a super time traveling alien computer mind, kind of like the borg but this is a hierarchy of different alien races plugged into one messed up technology beyond pleasure and pain. A) I think Shaw is a bit of both, a geologist, who's religious ideologies sometimes help her work out problems that science cannot help her with. But, in her own words, she was so wrong. I think she misread the cave drawing, thinking it was an invitation when it was probably a warning, like the beacon in ALIEN, the crew first thought it was a SOS signal until Ripley worked out that it was a warning. B) Probably. C) Reminds me of what Giger once said regarding the Alien, that he always imagined that there were worms riggling about in it's elongated cranium. It's just a perfect killing machine!

The poster was good though!

A) Maybe. B) I'm sure that all movie scripts are influenced to some degree by what the writers see and/or read elsewhere. The original "Star Beast" screenplay borrowed elements from the "Who Goes There?" / The Thing story written in the 50s. C) Ridley created the menace and horror, Cameron morphed the creature into some sort intelligent monster and the others simply built upon these elements so there is much more that can be developed. Whether or not P2 addresses this issue is another story. D) Sir Ridley Scott and his team are getting their information from real time traveling entities - seriously?

We also have to not forget Spaights, you see Ridley gets a lot of credit for movies, when people like O'Bannon and others including Giger had more to do with what we see on screen. These guys are the creative force and Ridley just transfers their vision onto screen and he adapts it a bit.... sometimes making mistakes.... I do think the brainstorming part of developing Prometheus was that Mankind was not a product of Magical God in Sky or Evolution but that we was created by a Ancient Alien Race, so yes very much so the movie was based around the Ancient Aliens theories. I think Shaw is a Geologist/Archeologist looking for answers to mankind History and she then starts to find evidence that seems to stack up to the Ancient Alien theories which must have contradicted he upbringing and faith in the God of the Bible. As far as the Xeno i think its just a Evolution of the Perfect Survival Organism... (not so as thats The Thing) I do think the Organism is a near perfect killing machine but more so i think its a Organism thats purpose is to procreate its species in a all manner of different ways.

I think Shaw is an archaeologist/ anthropologist. Along those lines. Not necessarily an ancient alien theorist, at least not until she started finding irrefutable evidence. Directors, writers etc. draw influences from all sorts of stimuli, and its true that in this case ( a Ridley Scott movie) the writers are sometimes overlooked in discussion. But it takes a Ridley to orchestrate and combine all these elements into a singular vision. Yes, O'Bannon wrote Star Beast but if Ridley had stuck to his ideas it would have been a very different and in some ways cheesy film ( Snark, anyone?). I like to think that the elongated head is for production and storage of Goo. I personally subscribe to the transformation concept of egg production, and it seems to me some variant of Goo would be needed to initiate the process. I think there's very little brain in there, maybe something like that of a spider. I know Giger said it was to house the tongue but I don't see it. IMO of course.

A) Shaw is much more an ancient alien hunter than a geologist. She is an archaeologist or maybe an anthropologist, however, which are different than a geologist. She studies ancient civilizations, their ruins, artifacts, and cultures, not rocks and the earth itself. B) I doubt the history channel show provides very much information, because Ridley Scott wants the movie to be as original as it can be, and also because they're asking their questions from a different viewpoint. In ancient aliens, it's what may have happened, based on some signs that are left behind, and in Prometheus, it's whatever they imagine and what would they like. C) There could be much more to the minds of the xenomporphs than we realize. In Aliens, for example, they "cut the power", and Hudson expresses how incredulous that is for them, but they really did cut the power. In Prometheus, Fifield's zombie mutation comes to the ship and goes berserk at a specific time also: after Shaw aborts the alien fetus. This was more than a coincidence in my opinion, and it suggests a telepathic link between the creatures, wherever they are and however young they are. I would stop short of what Mr. Ruhaniya said, though, that they are aware of all of our thoughts as they hunt blind (having no eyes). They aren't likely able to read minds, but they can sense each other even in the womb, again like in Alien 3, when the xeno knew where a growing fetus was. The elongated heads are very unusual in my opinion. They do not signify a larger brain, though. Most of the tissue is just for inner mouths and the "powerful spring like muscles" that let the inner head strike out with such power as knock through steel blast doors and helmets.

The xenomorphs in both franchises are simply weapons..without humans or other biological hosts, they cannot reproduce. They do not create, they do not innovate, they simply destroy. Yes, in Aliens the xenomorphs were smart enough to cut the power; they adapt and learn in order to subdue their prey. Once they lay their eggs in their hosts, the egg-layers die while the other xenomorphs are tenders such as ants or other insects. The xenomorphs were created and/or harnessed as weapons, pure and simple. What is interesting is the mural and sculpture in the Urn room in the Prometheus movie, hinting at an intimate relationship between the Engineers and the xenomorphs. Again, endless possibilities here as well. Clearly the xenomorphs are just as dangerous to the Engineers as they are to their targets, as evidenced in both Alien and Prometheus. A double-edged sword does cut both ways, after all... Has anyone considered the possibility that the derelict spacecraft on LV426 was intended for another world and not Earth? LV223 was dedicated to developing biological WMDs to eradicate Earth of all life, giving a hint that the xenomorphs would eventually die off and new life could be seeded once again. Again giving confirmation that the xenomorphs are simply weapons, and after a set amount of time would die off or that maybe there was some sort of "antidote" that the Engineers could douse the planet with, to eradicate the xenomorphs. I hope we find out!!

Shaw is a scientist with very strong religious beliefs (yes, we do exist). Since her mother died while she was very young, she feels driven to fill that void through her religious beliefs. Add to that the fact that she is infertile, and a female, you end up with a very driven individual to find out if science and religion did in fact derive from the same origins or if one trumps the other. She uses God to fill the void left by her parents' early deaths, and is driven to try to discover the Truth Of Life as she knows it.
