MemberChestbursterJul-18-2013 10:37 AMGiger's original necronom, a very xeno-esque, or the ruins scenario are my big three here. The original necronom, being a female and what not, seeems most interesting to me, because it could make for an interesting story about why we dont see any female engineers. Something along those lines...

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2013 3:37 PMI'd say the xenomorphs are a deliberate adjustment to the humans and any other organisms that it comes out of, not anything even originally in existence, from nature, let alone a creator race. They are like weapons, or "improved pets" made by a sadistic, twisted "god". The engineers were said to pre-date humans in the movie, so whoever created them basically created humans too, but they might not have done so directly (in either case). The engineers could simply have evolved naturally, without any god. That is what atheists believe happened in reality, anyway.
I'd say a god like being will be in the new movie, and it will probably be something closer to the Doctor Manhattan from Watchmen, who sort of looks like an engineer, doesn't he?

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2013 5:12 PMWell I think so far everybody's letting their imaginations run away with them a bit, as it's universally understood that God has a long white robe and beard. And, is about 12,000 feet tall.
Yok yok
Anyhow, I'm imagining Shaw may get a glimpse of whatever it is that's posing as a God, but if it's even remotely Godlike, she'll likely see only what it wants her to see, which, if the things Ridley has been saying bear out, will not be pleasant. I'd expect her to endure a serious mindf**k.
The being itself could be anything, or even nothing. Tons of potential for this one, including even more arty Kubrickian hijinx. Go Ridley!

MemberChestbursterJul-18-2013 6:34 PMI randomly got the feeling Shaw is going to see her Father in Paradise...

MemberOvomorphJul-19-2013 12:07 AMI'm pretty sure that She will meet her Father, and i guess its going to be her Father who gives the answers to her questions.

MemberDeaconJul-19-2013 2:03 PMSo much potential.....
i hope to find mainly ruins and murals that depict the Engineers and Elders and point to things they create and that are meant to serve them....
But then i would like to see some murals that depict something Giger-Esque with hints that show the Engineers and Elders hold in high regard and worship some how...
But leave it a bit open to some Ambiguity......
Basically i want to find out who created the Engineers to a degree and yes find out the Elders and Engineers had a hand in creating a lot of life in the universe and maybe a lot of clues as to why....
But then ultimately not knowing what created the universe and the beginnings of life...
So what i mean is say i am up for say like a show case to show what say Mankind created from Stone Age to Modern era be that Electricity, Cars, Telephone etc etc etc..... and the purpose... But then ultimately we wont be shown or know how Mankind came to be just as we are not sure now in real life...
What i mean is replace Mankind above with Engineers/Elders and the creations of man i,e Car, Telephone etc with well all Engineers created or modified inc Mankind, maybe Xenos and many other things....
I think at the end of the movie i want to be left not knowing which being created the first actual creator...
So if movie shows us that Mankind is created by Engineers and Engineers created by Elders and Elders created by some other being i dont want the movie to show that this other being is the BE ALL THAT END ALL CREATOR....
So we are left with..... who created the Engineers creator then?

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2013 12:36 PMSo a neverending question? Why go through religion at all then? I hope they do not try to depict any deity from a real world faith. They will fall short of doing so in a flattering way, even with the best of intentions, which I doubt they would have.
BigDave
MemberDeaconJul-22-2013 7:14 AMWell thats the tricky part you see, because they have gone the route that the Space Jockey race are Engineers who well created us or at least played a massive role in that and that they would no doubt had maybe created many other forms of life.
It opens up massive potential, but then with so many ways they could explore this its going to be a tough job to cover which way they are going to explore this...,
Will we ultimately be shown a being or race that the movie with then show us is the divine creator or all things... Only time will tell...

MemberOvomorphJul-24-2013 6:37 PMGreat thread Big Dave! I love the visuals and the ideas as well. I believe Alien and Prometheus are set in a Lovecraft-Giger universe. Therefore, IMO, God, or more likely "the Gods" are probably some cosmic horror that drives men (or women) insane - if they ever get a glimpse at the ultimate reality. However, I believe we will see someone more human looking claiming to be god, or at the very least claiming to speak on behalf of god. I'm specifically guessing that an Elder Engineer from the deleted opening scene may still be around to greet Shaw and David on Paradise. The very wrinkled guy in the picture provided above by Big Dave, sans hoodie and wearing the golden lobster bib seems to be a logical choice to be what the LV223 Engineers considered god, or their high priest, or their king. I know I'm out on a limb basing a theory on deleted material, but what if part of the reason that opening was taken out was to satisfy Ridley's concern about showing us God in the first movie?
BigDave
MemberDeaconJul-25-2013 10:03 AMYes Ridley did say that he did not want to meet God in the first movie...
But he also said that scene was removed as he was not pleased with the final look of the Engineers, and the Elders as they did not seem as menacing and maybe he means how they speared to be frail.
I hope this is not a sign that he is re imaging the Engineers as simply mindless Space Thugs....

MemberOvomorphJul-29-2013 12:34 PMEXCELLENT POST!
I believe we are dealing with two kinds of Gods, if you will: the God who created the Engineers and the true and real God of Christianity/Muslim faith.
The God that created the Engineers would have to be totally gigeresque. The pic of the female you provided would work for me. She will think of herself as God because she does have the ability to create and manipulate life. And although powerful and immortal, she is not omnipotent. She is flesh and blood, and can be killed.
However, the Christian and Muslim God would still remain elusive. I believe that there are things in this universe that we will never truely understand, no matter how technologically or philosophically advanced we may come. I believe that in the next couple of sequels, Dr. Shaw's faith will be reaffirmed.

MemberOvomorphAug-05-2013 11:26 PMI don't think that there will be anything resembling a God in the sequel...kevthedm made a good reference to the traditional religious rendition of God, and this is what Shaw refers to. I think that when Shaw meets the Engineers/Elders, they will be quite baffled by her religious views. Unless she finds that the Engineers/Elders are the source of these religious beliefs, and she is in for quite a shock.
I've read some interesting references to the "Space Jesus," with a direct tie-in to the Prometheus timeline that lends it credence. In our primitive minds thousands of years ago, Engineers would seem very God-like. Perhaps they were fed up of our aggressive nature and how much of our very genetic beings are devoted to not only destroying one another, but relentlessly devising ways to do so more effectively & efficiently. This could be in direct contravention to the gifts of life and reasoning given to us by the original genetic-stocking Engineer/Elder, as evidenced by the Engineer's rage when asked for more life by Weyland and his discovery that David was a synthetic life form.
The possibilities are endless!
