Alien Movie Universe

Hopefully Prometheus 2 will actually include some tension.

Many of the opportunities for classic horror moments in Prometheus were damaged by the lightning fast pacing, I hope we get a slower paced sequel.

I agree. The only real problem I had with the first movie was the pacing, I felt like I was being rushed through it. Hopefully the next installment will give the viewer more time to take in everything that is happening.

@DeaconLove. I agree. Alot of opportunities for real horror were lost in the process. If I would have had a say in how Prometheus was made, I would have substituted the adult squid and deacon scenes for more build up of tension. Some unseen monster stalking the crew from the shadows and more time spent on the Fifield mutation would have been mint! Put some deleted scenes back in and make the film run for 2 hours 30 minutes instead of 2 hours 6 minutes. Ridley did say that he wanted to scare the c**p out of us, but for me and many others, he failed in that particular indevour. I don't mean this as an insult to Ridley's creative abilities, as I'm a huge fan of his! But maybe he's lost the ability to scare people? I really hope not!

The poster was good though!

I asked myself where exactly Ridley meant in the film he'd be scaring us that much, and I think it's very subtle. If you think of things in a certain way, you will be very scared, but most of the time (and for most people) it won't even be a scary movie in any sense of the word. The pacing obviously could have changed that, but again, that would only help make the subtle messages come across and the movie wouldn't become a more overt horror movie.

I'm with Visionary on this, the sense of panic and dread in the second and third acts in particular was subtle, and relentless. This was about little scientists in the lair of godlike beings, at the mercy of a remorseless android, not monsters lurking in the shadows. It was a thriller in the classic mold of Alfred Hitchcock, or Stanley Kubrick, not James Cameron. Then tension was there, but it was exquisite in it's subtlety. The monsters were there as a side effect, not the main attraction.

There was tension in the film, IMO. I definetely disagree that the cutting was too fast-paced. It was patiently set-up and much more in tune with the first film than with most modern action films. Not nearly as much as in Alien. Prometheus is not what I'd call a scary movie, but the whole second half made my heart race quite a few times. I wouldn't mind Scott taking a more horror-centric approach to the sequel.
