AdminEngineerApr-11-2013 4:48 AMWith Prometheus 2 in the scripting stage, it's coming to that time of year again where us crazy Alien / Prometheus fans ramble on about crazy, mind-blowing ideas about where the story will go next. This topic, is to discuss the nature of Paradise - the Engineer homeworld in which Shaw and David are hoping to reach.
It would seem, the name Paradise could turn out to be horribly ironic, if, when Shaw and David arrive (assuming they do) they find the planet has already been overrun and infested by the Alien parasite / Xenomorph. Of course, this is one avenue the story could play out. The other - the planet is rich, colorful and full of life. I guess it all depends on which direction Ridley wants to take the story, but going by how Prometheus played out in its final scenes, I doubt we'll be seeing colorful, lush planets anytime soon.

Personally, I expect the homeworld to have already been taken over. Like with us Humans, we're ravaging our world (not to sound negative), and we're constantly experimenting with dangerous technology as well as catering to ongoing wars, which further hurt the planet.
It's possible, Prometheus 2 could depict a similar circumstance, in which the various Engineer populations continued to engage in war with one another, unleashing their deadly creations on one another, until the planet collapsed, destroying all life, except for the toxic creations the Engineers left behind - in this case, I'm guessing - the Xenomorphs.
But, that's my hypothesis. What about you guys? Do you think Paradise will be just that? A true Paradise where war and famine don't exist and all the Engineers live in harmony and promote positivity and well-being? Or do you think Shaw and David will uncover a more dark, scary truth, which is that their supposed Engineers have suffered the same fate Humanity will soon be facing? Let me know what you think by sharing your thoughts below.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2013 4:53 AMpotentially, PARADISE's spherical featureless planet-of-potential might have already been seen in Sphere (1998).

There might not be a Paradise Homeworld in 'this dimension' (think about a race that can travel across the universe) and the Homeworld Shaw/David find is just this (above) hanging in space.
A spherical stargate, in essence, but the sphere might not actually lead to Eden or a Planet or even a Gypsy Spaceship. It might lead INSIDE the hopes and fears of the traveller i.e. if you 'get there' to the sphere in space, YOU can become Engineers.
Or, the inside of it might look like this (if you haven't seen it before):

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2013 8:57 AMi think we won't see anything colorful, yeah. something dark but beautiful..would be absolutely interesting to see the way they spent their time while traveling in the ship;Shaw using Engineers hypersleep thingy or something. hope to see more constructions - on the planet or wherever. and it could pretty much be a story of loss and disappointment..again)) but maybe she'll finally find the point of contact.
interesting idea about sphere and essence,i think it could be used somehow, maybe not as a whole concept but partly. really hope it'll be something complex, not just infections and aliens)) uhh

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2013 10:15 AMPersonally, I think the PARADISE planet might have been 'grown' or 'still be growing' kinda like a stormy-sexual-writhing Giger-extrusion version of Neal Adams lovely-if-nuts Growing Earth concept.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2013 5:02 PMIm hoping their will be tons of temples and ruins but with Giger style all over the place and then maybe some mountains with huge waterfalls. It will have to a war-torn planet but with reasons why it was called Paradise in the first place. I like that concept of Growing Earth its really cool and different but in a good way.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2013 8:01 PMSometimes I think that the Engineer of sacrifice scene is after/or during the war between factions. Probably In this war only survived the fallen Engineers and the Elder were killed (or mostly, except those from the flying saucer). anyway it is very likely that the war was 2000 years ago.
Another possibility is that biological weapons are used to extract human DNA and then improve their genetic, as has been proposed in this recent thread. In this case is not necessary a war between factions and their fall is a product of their progress and lack of awareness.
On the planet; I hope it looks bizarre ala Giger style, but personally I would like to see more new stuff and not only xenomorphs. in fact that's one of the things that I liked from Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2013 8:25 PMBut what about those elephant suits? Maybe they wanted to look like their creators and biological weapons is part of that transformation, but first they have to experiment with the guinea pigs from Earth.
I accept the Engineers as astronauts in suits, but this form is so different, as if they wanted to be another creature and the biomechanical technology is the last legacy of that.

MemberChestbursterApr-11-2013 10:23 PMI think and hope that it will be a mix of destruction and peace. I envision big temples and/or buildings all over the place. Some are still standing, but most of them are just beat to s**t. Along with that, there might be sections of forest or some kind of colorful and lush sections, but only seen a couple times. They might find under ground tunnels or something with engineers dead mostly, but some are alive and other crazy alien creatures just being hinted at. Like when they are walking and it shows a kind of panoramic view you see a xeno type thing or something new just creep by and not show up until the end or something.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2013 1:50 AMI think it would be more interesting to have some crazy ecclectic Paradise where we see a beautiful, magical and primal place where all cultures and life forms in the universe spring from. It could be scary, dark, sinister, beautiful, bright, wild and colorful all rolled into one...why not? No holds barred. The dark sinister stuff has been overexplored imo. There could be some contrast of a divinely mysterious yet positive dimension to Paradise. Paradise was once an abode of the gods or may still be but with a dark side now. The Engineers' ship may have never been to its original homeworld but has been sort of out in the cosmos doing its work originating on another seed world where the Engineers have been exiled by their Creators. Obviously David will have to figure it because the movie series depends on it.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2013 10:12 PMI honestly think their elephantine suits are not to look like an animal but a complete functional tech .gear that happened to look like an elephant. Think about this why I think its actually an easier way to combine all that you need when flying in the sky or heavens. You need a helmet, goggles, and an oxygen hose to breath from. Put those all together and what do you have, a space jockey flight suit.

MemberOvomorphApr-13-2013 3:52 AMthe 'elephant suit' or Space Trucker is totally b*ll*cks in terms of functional design, but then Giger was never the most practical interface architect, right?

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2013 12:58 AMIn Gladiator, Ridley gave us a vision of a human paradise in the form of the Elysian Fields - a place of endless golden sunshine where Maximus is reunited with his family. It nearly brings a tear to the eye just thinking about that scene again. However, Ridley has hinted that the Paradise Shaw and David are headed to may be very different from that place. I suppose that the notion of what is a paradise depends on whose viewpoint you are looking at. David tells us that the Engineers are not originally from LV 223, and that their home world is called Paradise. If that is true, then Paradise to the LV 223 Engineers could be a subterranean bio mechanical wonderland. A world of living machines might also be a sort of a paradise to David, which may explain why he is willing to take Shaw there. However, the Engineers we have seen may not be welcome on Paradise anymore. This could explain why nobody has bothered to check up on them for the last 2000 years. It is possible that they were expelled from their home world ages ago, and the planet is inhabited by other factions of Engineers or the ultimate creator or a creator race who we have not seen yet. In this case Paradise could be very different from LV 223 and could in fact be a beautiful place, though it would carry the scars of war from the engineers' rebellion eons ago.
On the issue of whether or not we will see xenos in Paradise, I beleive the creature is a species that has been modified by the LV 223 Engineers into a weapon. It is possible that the original xeno is from Paradise, and may in fact be the strange creature depicted in the ceiling mural in the big head room on LV 223. At any rate, I beleive we will see some very unusual creatures on Paradise - it could be like Jurassic Park on steriods in fact.
