MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 1:16 AMi was wondering about that also.
when im depressed or pissed off for a while i usually only draw monsters n demons and such, and really gross/gore stuff.
wondered if the movie would be darker and more gorey, maybe grittier like the original alien was.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 2:24 AMI think this sort of incident can affect a creative in a number of ways as a way to deal with grief.

I agree absolutely. It's still baffling why Mr. Tony Scott ended his life. It was reported by his wife, that he had no such diagnoses of terminal cancer. God, I hope it is nothing scandalous. I know of poor souls, such as the Badfinger members who had a promising beginning but a very sad ending, but Mr. Tony Scott wasn't suffering anything like that. WTH?!?

AdminPraetorianAug-27-2012 2:59 AMThe last time Ridley lost a sibling he made Blade Runner. He got fully immersed in his work and turned out a beautiful movie. Who knows though, I don't really care about the movie, I just hope he and his family are going to be ok.
@SubsumeYou; Sometimes people just want to die, it happens. Just remember the man who was a great filmaker and leave it at that.

Yes, I will do that. : (

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 7:44 AMYes, I was going to bring up his older brother dying and the fact that he made, imo, his best film in the wake of that tragedy.
He was slated to direct Dune then his brother, Frank, passed. He pulled off Dune, then decided that he needed to immerse himself in work in order to deal with it. I guess to maybe distract himself from it all.
The result, like I said, was, in my and many other's opinions, was his best work and perhaps the greatest sci-fi film ever made.
He's obviously older. He will more than likely deal with this tragedy in a totally different manner. However, I think the tragic situation and the subject matter of Prometheus can really benefit from this event and it's effects on Ridley if he so chooses to continue and deal with this through his art.
While the thought of a film benefiting from something as sad as this may seem to be
a rather morbid thought, it could very well be the silver lining in regards to Tony's suicide as well as being a very healthy and productive way for Ridley to deal with everything.
While I too put the well being of the entire Scott family and friends effected by all this I still think the Prometheus sequel can grow and become something even more profound and meaningful to both the Scott family and fans alike.
Personally, I think it was obvious that Scott was heading in a rather non-terrifying direction to begin with. I think Prometheus was setting up something that was less scary and more profound and spiritual. I think this might propel the sequel(s) even further down that path.
If this is in fact the case and the film does go down a path that is less Alien aka terrifying and more 2001 aka profound, how will you guys react?
Do you think you'd enjoy the film more or less?

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 8:38 AMthere might be a sort of "family" feel to it. you know... the long "lost" distante relative feel.
Anyway, we'll get to see how that loss will be represented on screen.

In reply to Engineering:
Well, even after the previews for Prometheus, I couldn't even begin to predict or guess what could be told in the story, so, I'm confident that, however, it manifests should/when the sequel debuts, it will be a certain surprise, for sure.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 7:12 PM@SubsumeYou...
Not so sure the sequel(s) will have quite the surprise factor that Prometheus had. At this point it's pretty obvious that the sequel will have a lot to do with Shaw's faith, David's facination with said faith, the Engineer's homeworld and their reason for wanting to destroy humankind.
I've just been contemplating more about where Scott will go with the feel of the film in regards to emotion.

MemberOvomorphAug-31-2012 6:05 AMIts compelling as well as interesting being that Shaws character traits, for one, was all about the concept of faith vs imperical evidence, with art imitaiting life, imitaiting art again this will also be a telling test of Ridley Scotts faith in his craft making now in advance of his brothers death vs the art of furthering his craft as a result and the themes the future characters would employ or indeed embody. You are a wounderful visionary Ridley and we are all with you and your family in mind and would hope you will be strong to continue to give us yours through your wonderful film craft. Please stick with it, for your brothers memory, for your family, for your fellow work collegues, for all of us as your loyal fans of you and your work and most importantly... for respect to yourself Sir. Keep doing what you are doing, we are all immensely proud of you and what you have offered to us over the years. Keep going Ridley... HyperNova.
