MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 4:43 PMHi, I just spent 40 minutes writing a detailed no spoiler review for Prometheus then my internet died! So here is a quick one.
I loved it, the pacing, the music, the design the creatures the lot! Ok the acting wasn't stellar with the exception of David as everyone well knows by now. But that is not enough to ruin the film anyway the acting is not bad in anyway its just not amazing.
The story is great with many Easter eggs for people like me who like "The Chariots of the Gods" kind of thing as well as references to mythology and religion and the recurring R.Scott theme of meeting your maker.
The gore is nasty but not too much it has style and will not be forgotten easily. After watching Prometheus I was left thinking and I love that feeling, I'm sure this film will generate plenty of discussion long into the future like Blade Runner did.
Great science fiction, hope they make a part two, I can't wait to see it again.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 5:32 PMI loved every bit of it too! Especially the points the OP wrote!
I think character development was just the right amount considering the small time of space given with a 2 hour film. How much character development did the original Alien have? That didn't have flash backs to Ripley's past. Prometheus certainly gave Noomi Rapace a strong character. Idris Elba played to cool, calm, yet mysterious pilot... Etc. etc.
Thought a lot of people are being way too harsh on the film, yet of course the are entitled to their opinions!

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 5:00 PMPrivate Problem, I found nothing wrong with the performances but I can see why some people might have found some of the crew to be not fleshed out enough, but hell you can't please everyone and this is not meant to be Hamlet!
I thought the main cast did their job well, all of them.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 4:56 PMIt's good to hear that you enjoyed it.
I didn't, as an RS film in the Alien universe, but did as a visual treat 2nd time around. I sincerely hope enough people like it to justify a sequel, but hope enough concerns are raised to get them to up their artistic and script writing game.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 4:55 PMThank you, well The Matrix for a start, you know the way you want to know more at the end of that? Well its's similar yet very different, Prometheus is more cryptic, more interesting and a breath of fresh air compared to most science fiction. Kubricks 2001 left me wondering too, its not quite as deep as that but there is plenty of discussion to be had.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 6:06 PMSpuppet, good to hear. Alien was a claustraphopic sweaty film, it had its own unique atmosphere, Prometheus is not trying to do that and if it did, some would praise it and others would go bah! More of the same....
I really got immersed into it and loved the sense of wonder that comes with coming into contact with other life in the universe and I thought the film portrayed that well.
Sure I knew everything would go wrong in the end but watching the way it unfolds is the fun. I find most of the complaints irrelevant, but we need people to critic because that how we get better, even if sometimes they are just nit picking, looking for faults.
I have been talking with some people on a differant forum, most have not seen it yet as they mainly from the US but its sad to hear the way they talk...they are getting ready to hate the movie some are comparing it to The Phantom Menace....and they have not seen it yet, such is human nature.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:03 PMRelating to the performances, did no one else think that the Scottish actress was about as convincing as Rebecca Brooks? Every line she delivered was embarrassing (IMHO).
