I think since it says 2 hours, 0 mins its a placeholder, as that too "neat and tidy" for a release to be exactly 120 long...

I agree that 2 hrs seems too short and would concern me as I think it will be quite difficult to get the themes in and pose the questions and provide at least some of the answers that Scott and Lindelof have been mentioning within that time. They also have mentioned 'Lawrence of Arabia' and it's director, David Lean, and how that influenced them and how they were approaching this. For reference, that movie was 3.6 hrs. I think most people are thinking/hoping it will be 2.5-3 hrs long. Says 190 minutes here - This was from some casting website, so who knows if this is legit even.

As a placeholder, as in "We don't know how long it will be, so just put out PG-13 and two hours and we can change it when we get more info. I am guessing 140-160 mins for the movie, at least. Ridley likes longer movies in general. Kingdom of Heaven 144 min Gladiator 155 min American Gangster 157 min Robin Hood 140 min Black Hawk Down - 144 min The only time he goes shorter is in his "Crime Caper" films like Matchstick men or Thelma and Louise (which is 130 min)

I think that's two hours played on a ship traveling near the speed of light (relative to earth) from the perspective of those of us on earth that aren't moving. That's approximately 17 days long....whooooohoooo!

Oh shit...I just heard Rosey o'Donnell plays the leader of the SJs. This really is getting bad.

Alien is only 117 minutes. I hoping Prometheus is inbetween 140 - 180 minutes. There is a lot of story and material to cover to make it decently paced in 2 hours, but I doubt Fox will let them go near 3 hours. I agree, I think the 2 hours posted on that site is just a placeholder.

i;m stanting to think this film is not going to be that good........

Everyone relax. As some have mentioned...its just a placeholder. I would be very surprised if the film was under 2Hr 20 min. I'd like a 3 hour film, but realistically I dont think the studio would want that. That means more production costs and less viewings at cinemas.

Zedwardson

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 2:19 PM
It is not going to be over 3 hours due to Cinemas. However I would be surprised if it was less then 140 mins, and shocked if it was less then 130 mins. Also if they are going to put 10 mins of "before history" footage, that alone makes me suspect 140-160 min movie.

Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew. (sorry, an old saying for homebrewers) I'm with you draekus. Although this really doesn't mean anything, I just want to point out that 'The Hunger Games' was 2 hrs 20 minutes and the themes covered in that aren't nearly as complex as what I expect will be covered in 'Prometheus'. Ridley Scott is a better/more experienced director than Gary Ross and will make sure Fox doesn't completely slaughter his film and want too much to be removed. (ahhh, homebrew finished)

i dont understand why theres so much focus on 'Cost' and 'Profits?' Especially for a Ridley Scott film. Such a well established director should be able to get 150mil from producers to be able to direct a film he wants, without these constraints. This film already has a decent fanbase who will undoubtedly pay the entrance fee to see it at least once. Plus its marketing campain should definitely capture interest for 'newcomers' to the genre. I simply dont see what the fuss is all about (in the producers point of view) about the profit potential this film has Such a highly anticipated film are they really that worried?

I think it's going to be just under 2 hours 30 minutes.

Also for a film Ridley Scott himself described as an EPIC tale to be anything under 2hr 30 min would be highly doubtful. Especially as @Zedwardson stated his films are slightly longer then the two hour mark.

That's it, forget it. No way am I going to see a movie that's only 2 hours long... /sarcasm off

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 3:02 PM
Though I guessing from what I hear is that Ridley Scott put in something that he felt was a PG-13, and the MPAA said it was R, and Ridley after a long cussing pointed out it wasn't worse then say, the Hunger Games. Since there might be more cuts they don't want to give a runtime.

Even the rumours are bad news today... A 120 minute PG-13 film that borrows enough visuals from Alien to suck in the old fans but has nothing to do with LV-426, which makes you wonder if the story about jockey-boy and his cargo was just a big tease for the last thirty years. Depressing.

Love how this community is toss the movie under the bus before we have seen anything. Ridley Scott has made 2 scifi films. Like them or not they are regarded as 2 of the best scifi movies ever. And both of them are 2 hours long. Just wait, I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised. That is unless you have to have one or more of these things in it: 1. Had to lead directly into alien no exceptions. Has to be LV426 or has to end up there. 2. We need a Xeno. Bigger the better. Give us a Queen! 3. They want them to elude to the fucking Predator. Yes some people want this, I truly feel sorry for those people. Just wait to see it. I think most will be surprised. I have faith and literally, I never go to movies. I hate mainstream theatres and have to wear earplugs at them[I'm a pro musician, and I find movies to be louder then the 3 plus rock shows i go to or work a week]. I am still going.

Yeah but what questions have to be answered, Shane? There is a jockey ship in this movie. If there's no where, what, or why elluded to, surely that's a piss in the face?

Shane

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:40 PM
It's a ship. One of many. We are dealing with an age old race that probably created humanity. I can accept they have spread pretty far across the galaxy at this point. We will get to know their race, the way they work. How fucked up they are. To me, that is way more interesting at this point then how the jockey in alien got where he was. Way I see it, it will be easier to ruin alien as a movie then to tell that story and enhance alien even more. it is far easier to drop the jockey ball then to run with it. So don't go near it. Give background surrounding it[the jockey race] but not the character in the chair that we have known for 30 years.

Like I said on the other thread, at least we can take comfort in knowing Ridley will eventually release a directors cut... :/

Jeez, they're probably still editing/adding effects in post. We've recently seen changes in the trailers, for goodness sake! I seriously doubt that anyone knows the precise running time as of yet.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 5:03 PM
Lindelof said at the Q and A that the film was 2 hours but reading between the lines i think he was just quoting a ball park figure there and i'm thinking that the film will be in the region of 2.20 min to 2.40 that's my guess. We could hold a stake and the nearest one to the release time movie length wins a bun or something .

Well if the story is good and effective than you only need 2 hours I guess...
