Nightmares- How has ALIEN impacted you?

When I was a child I saw Alien 3 for the first time. The design of the creature transfixed me. For years I thought I had seen an image of the most nightmarish type. Then I saw Giger's original design. I found I was mistaken. These two designs in particular haunt my dreams. They have become the symbols of my greatest fears. The dog alien in particular is rapid death in my dreams. Some of the things I have seen still concern me to this day (particularly because it was in my friggin mind). The original is slow death...I see it coming, a wretched, terrible silhouette approaching me, then it grasps me and the last thing I see are silver teeth. My point here, ladies and gents, is that the Alien franchise has had a profound impact on me. In particular, my creative writing. I often get inspired by my dreams. I am a better writer and a lighter sleeper because of these films. I have high hopes for Prometheus, and I am currently watching Bret get dragged up. How has ALIEN affected you? A lot? Little? Or is it "What the hell is this guy talking about, it's just a movie."

lol I was thinking about this the other day...There are only two things that scare me, grey aliens and the Xenomorph...this is when I am alone in a dark house...I am 30 years old Other scary creatures that disturb me include the Fiji mermaid from the X-Files episode Humbug, Eugene Tooms and a few other X-files characters

The original Xenomorph is completely frightening. That movie is a cinematic masterpiece & incredibly suspenseful. Predaliens with Rastafarrian Pred-locks... Not so much. I can completely understand the need for getting away from the Xeno as much as possible for this project. There are many young people out there who ACTUALLY think Predators and Aliens go hand-in-hand in a story.... and in the Predaline "universe" Xenomorphs are really nothing more than captive corn fed deer on a game preserve being hunted by hillbillies with big frickkin laysers.

It wasnt until recentley when i was researching the original alien design for my alien head project that is now at the moulding stage that i dreamt about alien creatures lol. I remember the dream vividly because there were a few of them running around. Then one spotted me.....it got close enough for me to wake up suddenly lol. Other than that, the movies didnt affect me. I saw alien when i was 12. The original creature is the most .....i wont say frightening.....id say awe inspiring. Only because you could see almost a human skull through the front of the cranium as the original cranium was clear not opaque. I wonder if Sir Ridley ever wishes hed used that one.

i have stated before, i watched Aliens, when i was eight. we thought it was going to be an action movie that i could watch, but we where massively mistaken. it was the chestburster scene that got me. The creature (an all subsequent evolutions of it) terrify me, it felt that real. I can read the comics and books, but the motions pictures and games, give me nightmares. i did manage to watch 5/6 mins of Alien3 the other day. on my own. in the dark..... i wasn't so scared for once. i

Definately when Dallas turns and the Alien is right beside him in the air vent! Still gives me the creeps hearing the shriek from the Alien and then the static from signal feed! I mean he was the main character and was the third killed off! Ridley pulled a masterstroke with that one!

Yes from the first time I saw this one and all the other ones have really just scared the holy crap out of me ever since. I guess I can expect another 20+ years of nightmares. Thanks Ridley and all the other directors who have ruined my nights sleep.

The xenomorph is repeat player in my nightmares but I never know when or how. I've had full on space battles with flame throwers right down to trying to take it out with a staple gun in my garage. Sometimes I win but it is more common for there to be an acid blood spray that wakes me up screaming. If I had to guess on how common these dreams are I would say once or twice a year, maybe double that I have just seen one of the movies.

For a long time, I could not watch Alien mainly because of how the suspense came into play. It was so uncomfortable(which is the purpose) sitting there looking at an extreme close-up of the creature and feeling as if there was nothing I could do to escape. Aliens was different, maybe because there were more people involved and they had guns that time around. So, whereas, one would have that helpless feeling whilst watching Alien, they had a more confident(for lack of a better word)attitude as they watched Aliens because the humans had a more effective way of dealing with the Xenomorphs. That said, Alien is probably my favorite Ridley Scott film.

I saw Alien when I was pretty young...can't remember the exact age. It always fascinated me rather then scared me. I love their design and how they look, never had a nightmare with them..

I can't say Alien affected my sleep the same way that Exorcist, the Shining and a few others have. But in the moment, watching it, I was scared and fascinated in a way I wasn't with those others. I was one of those kids raised on Star Wars and ET and then this comes on one night and WHAM! I do remember seeing commercials for it when I was like 5 or 6 and was equally just mesmerized. And I second Cylon_Xeno's thoughts. Huge shock.

I was desensitised with movies as kid, I always saw them as story's and thought more about what was going on behind the camera. Although Prince of Darkness had a nasty hopelessness about it.... _I was banned from drawing Aliens or talking about them at school haha I'm not joking ether!

I guess I am not that suggestable but only 2 movies ever gave me the creeps and neither one was Alien related.

Hmm, good question. Since i was little they've fascinated me. I dont have nightmares about them, i dream about them, the design speaks to me. I love them. Whatever Giger was drawing upon, he hit a level of purity in these Aliens that i crave. They're excessively violent, single minded and devoid of any human mental frailties that would derail their endeavours (The moronic scene in the abominable Alien Resurrection where they seem to speak to each other to come up with an escape plan makes my blood boil) They make me feel closer to a ruthless ambition by watching them, i suppose thats the best way to describe it.

never once...I have never once in the 33+ years since I first saw that film, dreamed of anything in it, including the "Murderous Thief"...do not really get why either, it is the one and only fake creature that frightens me...just the idea of it.

I've watched the Alien films all my life and love them including the whole mythos behind them, however they have impacted my sleep. I do occasionally get dreams/nightmares about them normally involving me being hunted by the aliens but the last dream about them was by far the strangest of the lot. I work with Naval Ships and had a nightmare where I was being chased through a ship by an Alien. I ended up cornered in an engine room and then started trying to talk with it. When this got nowhere I opted to teach it literacy. Unfortunatly I woke up after this so I'll never know if I would have succeeded. As I said it was a bloody weird dream!

Haha! Saw Alien when I was seven, got up in the night and snuck into the TV room while my parents hosted a dinner party. Wasn't scared. In fact, I apparantly wanted a Xeno as a pet. I recently watched Alien again, and I was really scared, go figure. 2 years ago I got to visit the Giger museum in Swizerland, there is a bar in there that looks like the inside of an alien hive. I was almost crying with joy.

I had dreams for years that I was on a ship or in a building and I knew the thing was somewhere in it. I would always have that dread that I had to deal with this. Finally the dreams went away when I stopped caring.

Saw Alien on the big screen in 1979. I was 16. Have had nightmares about the Alien to this day. Not every night, or even regularly, but enough times to reinforce my abject horror of the thing. Honestly afraid that it will be the last thing i imagine as i lay dying. Help.
