Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 7:50 PMThat's a suspicion I've had for awhile, but the creatures in Prometheus are going to be something different, at least I hope so. You might be right, every time I watch the trailer now I wonder to myself "Is that blue guy infected with a creature? Or does that come later?" when I see the chair rising from the floor.............

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 8:08 PMAfter reading both your posts I had a thought(not the first person I'm sure). What if maybe the SJ is simply a biomechanical creation by the yet unknown race(blue guy) designed to navigate the ship. Hence the appearance that the jockey is part of the chair. Thoughts?
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 8:34 PM@zues. I think your idea is absolutely plausible...yet it's hard for me to get over the whole jockey merged with chair thing. Yet alien to us could certainly be normal to an ET. Maybe rather than put the suit on then get in the chair, you sit in the chair and the suit gets put on you!
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 8:53 PMYah seen that one db, but are they Jockeys or simply suits/statues?

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 9:02 PMI think the sj suit is incorporated into the chair wherein a individual sits down and a breathing apparatus /mask rotates down onto the head and face...if u look in a still from the trailer where the blue guy is in the room with the chair rising from the floor the head rest of the pilots seat looks like it is folded up and this setup looks like it contradicts the 1979 pics

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 9:04 PMI'm in agreement guys....something must've happened before he put the suit on............and I just had a eureka moment....remember this...

I wonder if it follows like this.......That parasite comes from the tampering with of an ampule. it infects a crew member, hence the above GIF, the human traits of its host make it what it is in that GIF, it then infects a SpaceJockey before he dawns a suit and the result of its gestation inside a jockey is the alien we know of or something close to it. Maybe each successive gestation alters the parasite further..............

AdminEngineerMar-10-2012 9:37 PMYou know that's a very good idea. I'd believe that. The idea of the 'Alien' being created by multiple hosts in a series of genetic manipulating transformations would work with what we already know of the classic Alien. But that would suggest an added stage in the Alien life cycle.
After looking at that GIF for... longer than I probably should.. it reminds me of the original chestburster originally seen in some of H.R Giger's artwork - the one that shows a pyramid like design with the three stages of the Alien life cycle. It was posted here not too long ago... But looking at that chestburster it looks bigger and slightly different than the one we're used to and it looks somehwat like whatever is bursting in this GIF image.
Maybe its just me, who else feels the same way?

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 9:56 PMI'm fascinated by the idea that it seems to be emerging from a mouth.....

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:06 PMI second craigamore I see a mouth as well...and the second stage of the gif resembles the proboscis type inner mouth shoothing out at a skull? Or helmet?? No tellin

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:10 PMI know.....its messed up. What gets me is that Bellaisanalien posted that GIF a while back and it didn't cause as much a stir I would have thought.....I feel like its an undercurrent we're largely overlooking that'll end up blowing our collective minds later on.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:13 PMWhat if the bio-mechanoid nature of the first Alien comes from David? After he cuts his finger, after examining the ampule, his android-ish DNA (or whatever) leads to that ampule creating the first ever of the Alien species?
That thing is definitely chest-burster-ish, but I don't think it's a mouth its emerging from, maybe a pod of some kind? The first egg? Looks like some sort of membrane covering it.........

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:17 PMInteresting point about David Cypher.......I like it, adds a whole other dimension......look closely at the GIF.......The "FACE" we see is in an upside down perspective....there's even an eye visible to the lower left just before it cuts to the second shot....it would be the face's right eye...

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:21 PMHmmmmmm...... I do actulally see what you're saying..... In the second shot I can definitely see 2 people, one trying to fend that thing off the other holding a flashlight to the right..... So maybe it is a face/head/body........ Good call :-)

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:28 PMcool...isn't it? that was part of Giger entire design proces for 'Alien'. He used real human and animal bones in all the sets and creature he made, including the SpaceJockey.
rynunger
MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:35 PMI think this particular design will be expanded on..in the trailer when a mutated crew member leaps from the top of a vehicle. The crown of his head bears striking resemblance to the cranial protrusion the runs the length of the alien skull along the center

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 11:12 PMomg omg omg omg omg (dancing up and down furtively waving hands a -la- homer)
whatever it is in those shots it can't be good for the crew. WRT a hybrid alien based on the form of host- remember in A3 the dog was the next host and the alien looked decidedly different as a result. So I'm firmly of the view that the SJ likely had an impact on the look of it's chest burster. I also hope the SJ isn't wearing an exoskeletal suit as some of postulated. Since in the original we see the fossilized bones. I'd like to think any suit would have disintegrated away over time leaving the SJ's fossilized body behind. Footnote- the SJ seat coming out of the floor in the trailer- how cool is that

MemberOvomorphMar-11-2012 5:07 AMI think you right the SJ is infected before he sits in the chair / cockpit before getting chestbusted.... I think thats also the room where they create the Biomechanical life so when the SJ is in the middle of the creation process he gets chestbusted and it all goes horrifically wrong?
Like the created eggs become corrupted the bioweapon is altered to that of the xeno by mistake...
Although the xenos display intelligence they do come across as without a soul don't they so for all we know it could be david has a part to play in this.... We will find out some more in a few days but will probably raise new questions

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 11:10 AMThe chestburst occurs clearly AFTER the space jockey sits in the chair, since the suit is fused to it (at least that's how we see it in Alien).
Of course, they could adjust the plot and make the chestburst occur before he is attached , and that a weakened and wounded Space Jockey tries to leave the planet, just to be hit later by the prometheus.
Starbeast
MemberOvomorphMar-13-2012 12:48 PMYes the logical thinking would be that the Space Jockey is infected before fusing with the cockpit, and knows full well of its own impending demise. But here is the interesting bit: we know the legacy signal was a warning not a distress, so did the Space Jockey ditch the Derelict or actually fail to take off before succumbing to a chestburster?
What you believe depends on whom you think the Space Jockey is, and what its motives are. Some say the Space Jockey is bad, and the Derelict was destined for Earth, but human intervention put paid to that. Others say a benevolent Space Jockey defied its own kind and aided the humans in sabotaging the Earth campaign.
I religiously believe the Derelict was heading for Earth but it was Shaw - incubating an alien - who donned the Space Jockey suit (Goldilocks-style problems I discussed months ago), and took the Derelict out of autopilot and grounded it, before perishing herself. But how do you explain Shaw outside the Derelict, running away from the debris?, I hear you shriek. Well, I would say that is merely a preceding scene after which, the Derelict is still operational.
