Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 12:05 AMI'd like Prometheus to stay as far away from those pieces of crap as possible, which is why I think Sir Ridley has introduced Peter Weyland as the founder of Weyland Inc instead of Charles Bishop Weyland from the AvP movies.
However, I had an idea a few months back in another thread that perhaps Weyland provided the technology for the ship and scientific gear the Prometheus team use, and that Yutani were the archaeological side of the expedition. May or may not be right, but I have a feeling neither of us is far off the mark Shambala ;-)

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 12:18 AM@Cypher Yes, that AVP is not possible, but did not say literally. As you have already arisen in the past may Yutani influenced the archaeological discovery and perhaps part of the archaeological discovery is alien technology, or just coordinates. And as you say, who knows, perhaps more than any of us coincided with some of the details of Prometheus. In 90 days we'll know.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 1:42 AMWhat I'm about to write is only "personal opinion".
Whether we like the sequels to Alien or not, they ARE history. Sure Ridley can dismiss anything he wants about the sequel films, but would he and who are we to decide? The fact remains that Charles Weyland was a man in the alien universe and there was an android modeled in his likeness. He did indeed find a temple in Antarctica and a predator weapon was indeed delivered to Ms. Yutani. For Ridley to completely dismiss this fact, for me would be a loss of great opportunity for the storyline. I would bet that before agreeing to take on Prometheus, Ridley would have reviewed the sequel films, comics, etc to gain a grasp on what stories have evolved over the years. To make a successful film, you would think that one would have to have a storyline that could capture the existing alien following and also create new admirers. After all, box office profits are the goal, regardless of what any one of us may desire for a storyline.
So, in saying all of this, I not only suspect, but hope that parallels are drawn from the extensive information that we have all been given from all of the previous movies and their stories. Even if there are hints of AvP.
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 5:03 AMAlien, Aliens, AvP, and Predator each exist in their own universe. I would rather have Ridley Scott stay in his own universe doing what he knows instead of sifting through 5 movies worth of lore that is inconsistant to begin with. And is it just me or is anyone else sick of the whole predators teaming up with humans thing?

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 7:01 AMIMHO, (and don't get pissed here) Mr. Ridley is allowed to do whatever the "%$*&" he wants to do with this story line. I really wish he would do what everyone wants, but isn't that what 'artistic license' supposed to support? New Ideas and new ways of thinking? No one is getting slammed here and I commend "Nrlfetmefan" in trying not to stifle the ideas here. (Thanks "Nrlfetmefan" for being an individual) Also, I commend all the others here that want to stick with the story line. I just (Like I said: IMHO) am glad if they do not stick with something someone else has progressed like Mr. Cameron who had his own take on the theme. (BTW, Well done Mr. Cameron)
In the US, political discourse is extremely volatile and one of the reasons the US can either stand or fall is because of the same ideas. If something works, maybe there is something better that would work better??? I equate the movies in a series in the same way. Sometimes the same story-line is better for "The greater good" (whispering: "The greater good"), but sometimes throwing a monkey wrench into the machinery is best to start a new train of thought.
[Uh on, I mentioned politics. Damn it. PLEASE don't start with political threads here. That will ruin the whole discussion. Sorry, sorry, sorry, my bad. I never should have done that. Damn.]
Anyway, please continue with the discussion. (This is really a good discussion board / forum) I would appreciate everyone's opinion here.
Before you fall asleep reading this, (thanks to everyone for posting, and no, I am not drunk / high while writing this) I am actually enjoying ALL the threads here (except for the time travel ones. They can put that one to bed with out it's supper).

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 7:27 AMWe know Scott is staying away from the franchise, he and Lindolf both stated they would and and only use the elements that were important for the story at hand. I think that this Yuntani is not the one from AVP as well as Weyland, this is a new entity and Scott's vision. This is a whole new beast guys.....as much as I have said it, we have to kill the mindset we have of the franchise and really think that Alien is the only movie right now, the rest are not important....

I agree. This is primarily the reason why Fox/Scott or whoever decided on PROMETHEUS as the title rather than ALIEN THE BEGINNING.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 8:22 AMA lot of people are wanting to see a xeno but truth is this is not a going to be a franchise film like the others, this is something new. This is a new story and direction and people are clinging on to the other films, thinking this is part of them...which is not as Scott stated. It is exciting to see Scott do his own thing and use the universe. Frankily, I am happy with the direction of the film so far and I think this film will book end Alien, so basically, it would just be Prometheus and Alien and thats it....unless, he does a sequel to Prometheus but still, pretty awesome!

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 10:45 AMWhat entertaining assumptions!!! Fox hasn't given any of us enough information to really know where Ridley is going with this film. No one knows exacly why the movie is named Prometheus and whether or not it will deviate from the other films. It's all just assumption and speculation put forth by self proclaimed experts....
The only thing we all know for sure is that the SJ race is somehow involved. Tell me some other aspect of the story that you know for sure...oh, yeah...none of you can, because you havn't seen the film and you have nearly nothing to work with except a couple cryptic trailers and interviews!
Unfortunately the topics we are discussing seem to get a bit convoluted, especially when assumptions and personal desires for the film are repeated over and over, eventually becoming truth in the minds of the writers. No matter how much any if us may like the alien universe(and therefor think we are experts), NONE of us know the greater details and will not until we see the movie.
@cain1977 you among other members of this forum often speak in "fact". If you are working on this film and know something the rest of us do not, please tell us.
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 4:07 PMI have never stated it was fact, I say, "I Think" in my writings..thus, an opinion and I take from what Scott said and go from there, nothing more. Just throwing my 2 cents in.
