MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 12:21 PMSparacus, very interesting take. That would be interesting. I have to say I'm so enjoying all this speculation that I fear watching the new trailer. I love this educated guessing part. As much as I want to know everything, I really don't. I hope the trailer gives away NOTHING. With how secretive Ridley is being, I really hope he just makes it more....confusing....for us all!!!

MemberTrilobiteMar-09-2012 12:37 PMSparky, I've said that all along. Ridley has always viewed the Derelict as a bomber intended to deploy the eggs on some world, but it crashed. If the eggs were the cargo as Ridley always viewed they were then after it crashes the an egg opens, facehugger crawls up, makes the hole and ambushes the pilot. This is also the way Cameron and O'Bannon and Giger viewed it.
You're not telling me you believe in this stupid Derelict Queen theory?

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 12:39 PMKudos to You Snorklebottom and I must have read the exact same thing, and perhaps again recently in "The Vault" about that being Ridley's initial thoughts on the matter. A Bomber, terraforming, and how the Xeno's were a Weapon used for these purposes.

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 12:42 PMSnorkel,
This is not true. The first scripts had a derelict and a temple at a distance, and Kane was infected at the temple. In "Alien´s Vault", you can read that they were short of money and "merged" the temple and the derelict.
In a former thread I have laid some measurements that shows that it is impossible to the egg´s chamber to be a physical part of the derelict:
=======================================
"This theory has a problem: some people did calculations about the likely dimensions of the derelict, and, if I understand the numbers right, the egg chamber should be outside the derelict´s body. See here:
http://time.absoluteavp.com/alientech.html
EXTERIOR
PORT PRONG (hammerhead) – 161.6 m (530’) long
STARBOARD PRONG – 174.3 m (571.7’) long
INGRESS/ EGRESS HOLES – 5.5 m (18’) high x 3.1 m (10.2’) wide
HEIGHT AT ‘BRIDGE’ AREA – 33.5 m (180’) high
LENGTH OF ‘BRIDGE’ AREA – 43 m (141’) long
WIDTH (AFT) – 116.6 m (382.6’) wide
WIDTH (AFT BETWEEN PRONGS) – 61 m (200’) wide
INTERIOR
EGG ‘CAVE’ – 39.6 m (130’) high
SPACE JOCKEY CHAMBER – 12.2 m (40’) high
If the SJ chamber is the bridge, Height of the bridge - SJ chamber = 33,5-12,2 = 21,3m.
Weel, the egg chamber is thought to be 39,6m high.
So, except for some poetic license, the egg chamber must be the fruit of the works of something else besides the Derelict´s projectists. The problem is, I agree that the chamber has all the signs of have been projected and built.
I really think that all of this is so inconsistent that it will be disregarded in Prometheus."

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 12:44 PMI always looked at those 3 holes on the derelict as a way that the eggs could be dispersed. They leave the ship from those holes.
And also - if the original was a temple that the eggs were in then it makes sense that in the final product - the derelict, instead of temple - that the eggs were there first - to be found.
And since the ship is 'alien' then it could certainly be that once you're inside of it - it could be larger than it looks to the 'human' eye from the outside...
Oh the possible twists and turns with this story... head, spinning... :)

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 12:47 PMI always said that in the ext dir cut of alien we can see that the area housing the eggs themselves stretches out towards the back for miles and miles, it is HUGE and I am in agreement with the thinking that they were there first and were landed/crashed upon. I think that may be the one thing everyone else has wrong....the Eggs. I think the Derelict was carrying Vials of pre-programmed to Be Xeno's Bio-Former Liquid sent to Earth to destroy it for the actions of the crew of Prometheus.

MemberTrilobiteMar-09-2012 12:49 PM@ centrosphere...
Sorry bro, but if you watch Alien on DVD and listen to the commentary Ridley clearly states that he always imagined the derelict as a bomber to deploy the eggs.
despite your hard work with all the numbers, remember its a film, and films use artisic license all the time.

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 1:08 PMThe main difficulty with the scale of the derelict is that you never see it as a whole from the outside but in prometheus you will.... It's really futile to judge the size of the derelict accurately from Alien and really does not bother me "scale issues"
I think you could be right that the crash could hatch one of the face huggers from it egg or more this might help explain how the SJ becomes compromised in his chair.
Xeno's might have also inherited acid for blood from the space jockey so it remains to be seen.... Do you think we'll see the SJ get chest busted? I hope we see this sequence in the movie...

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 1:30 PMK guys, how about this then, say your both right, the ship was still a bomber and the eggs were at a different structure so maybe this was a supply depot so to speak.
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-09-2012 1:35 PMOr just think of the Derelict like the TARDIS
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 1:37 PMexuse my ignorance but what was the "TARDIS" for us Older and mentally Slower people?
Pulserifle
MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 1:41 PMThe tardis was Doctor Who' ship, it was the size of an old english police telephone box but once you walked inside it, it was massive.

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 2:49 PMI could not get back into this thread for some reason for a long time, until just now as amatter of fact, "Snorky", sorry for that, but I wanted to say...Oh yea, I knew I heard that name somewhere but never watched that show enough to have it stick in my brain, thanks for clarifying that for me.

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2012 3:13 PMIF you listen to the ALIEN 20th Anniversary interviews (on DVD or BluRay), Dan O'Bannon originally intended the Egg Chamber to be a separate location from the Derelict Ship. There are illustrations & concept art to prove this (as seen in the new ALIEN VAULT book). They were on strict budget so they had the Egg Chamber positioned right below the Derelict to save money.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 7:30 AMI thought about it again and of what Snorklebottom said before the weekend and realized the Hugger had to have burst out of the SJ FIRST and NOT the other way around because "the burn" was made top down from the grill going down to the egg chamber. The Hole itself is on the top of it NOT the bottom therefore we can assume with the utmost certainty that the Facehugger{s} in question was/were going down...not up.
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 7:49 AMBit of a big hole for a Facehugger though isn't Sparky...
Surely there is a proper way into the egg chamber.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 7:56 AMNope, it's right about the same size, although a bit bigger, color and grated orientation as the one on made over Newts Crio-Chamber On the Sulaco In Alien3.
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 8:01 AMWe are on about the hole that Kane is lowered down through, which was big enough for a fully suited man to pass through, and looked more akin to the black acid-burnt holes in the Hadleys Hope colony in Aliens, and the hole made from the cut Facehugger aboard the Nostromo.
Whereas Newts cryo-pod in alien 3 had a few dark green burns more akin to scratches.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 8:07 AMok I can live with that, but the orientation of that burn makes it harder now for me to believe something came up first rather than down through that hole and became the equivalent of a Bad Lunch for the SJ...LOL.
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 8:12 AMTrue, but the facehuggers can spit acid, and if it spat enough it could theoretically burn that hole (think of damage caused in Alien from one little splash)...
Acid spat from underneath... Eats through the metal... because of gravity it drips downwards while the acid spreads upwards... Viola
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 8:22 AMI want to see one do it, I think that idea is so cool, maybe I have already and didn't relaize it was what I was seeing...hmmmm...curious...
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 8:30 AMWe have seen it, well kind of...
Alien 1979... Egg opens, Kane leans forward and peers in. Whip, whoosh. The facehugger jumps onto Kanes helmet with so much force it knocks him backward, as it does so it smashes through the glass of the helmet with its proboscis and thrusts it down Kanes throat...
fastforward to the sick bay...
Kane is led down on the bed still wearing his helmet, but the Facehugger is no longer grasping the helmet, it has spat acid at the helmets glass, melting it, and is now inside the helmet hold Kanes head with its tail around his neck.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 8:43 AMI always thought of that as the huggers nartural residue, and that anything it sits on long enough will start to be effected by that acid and melt, not sure that would be the same as controlled and directional spitting used to cut open a doorway but O.K....for you I'll run with it...hehehehe...
Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 12:31 PMNatural residue, def a no-no, it would burn through the egg and the hosts face, and anything else for that matter. Also in Alien 3 the crew were ejected into the EEV because of an electrical fire caused by acid burns, which will be from the Facehugger attempting (in the case of Ripley, succeeding) to gain access to a host.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 12:38 PMagreed, and...they have to let out that secreted acid somehow...
