Hello all ,my first time here and like everyone else cant wait for this movie to come out, great site and some really good topics too. My question would be are the eggs in alien on or off the derelict ,in the scene where Kane is been lowered he clearly states that hes in a cave or something indicating that its not the ship itself ,yet there are descriptions even from scott himself that the jockey/engineer was carrying or delivering them to a certain place.

Leavethecat WELCOME to Paradise! I think/say that place was "Earth" That VIALS programmed to become XENO's were packed into the Derelict and sent on a collission course with Earth. I say the company intercepts the Derelict. I say it crashng on LV-426 was not an accident and I just realized something esle I am going to make an entire post out of...we have all been looking at that scene backwards...the hole/burn wasn't made to access the Eggs, the Eggs were there to begin with, then hatched, then one of the face huggers made that whole climbing up and into the Space Jockey !!!

No dude, kane said its like a cave because it seemsto be enclosed Except for the burnt hole of the deck. The question is whether the SJ Was transporting the eggs in The derelict ship or was the Chestburster out of him a queen? but we know that ridley never had the Queen concept but cameron, also How many humanoid beings do the Alien need to make them morph into hundreds to thousand eggs?

If I remember correctly, in Alien, the eggs in the "cave" were extremely symmetrical, and there was even some sort of film layer hovering above the eggs. This is indicative of a more intelligent species organizing the eggs. We've seen many times that Alien Queens are quite sloppy in their nest formation. No reason to think that the eggs were not put wherever they were in Alien by either humans or space jockeys, or something else. I feel this is an origin story. We're going to find out where xeno's came from. Space Jockeys are already established as a higher intelligence. I think it's going to be an extremely interesting story, but the surpise of the movie won't be where aliens came from, it'll be something else i think. Space jockeys created Aliens, and were shipping them for some reason.....the reason behind that is where the story will lie:)

True, Kane calls it a cave, but it's a cave-like structure that, especially when you look into the distance, appears as a well built and organized structure.....it seems to me to be a kind of cargo bay....Looking at the walls and the overall layout, how does the ship just happen to crash onto something that appears made by hands and minds of some kind? It wouldn't make any sense for it to be just some cave.

I hope we're still left guessing as to the SJs' motives at the end of the movie. 'Never apologies, never explain' - that should be ther moto.

Has to be another structure beneath. A SIMPLE LOOK reveals that the ship is not nearly big enough to house the "egg cave". Unless they have some sort of dimensional compression tech. Which is possible, but I doubt. I hope it is explained. Such an obvious "Whaaaaa...?" should be.

To my eyes, it is still possible that the eggs were on the derelict. The control room is huge, but not so big that it would encompass the whole ship, and the ship is HUGE. Scott attempted to make the derelict as massive as possible employing every trick in the book. I have always thought that the eggs were on the ship, but I will be happy to check my opinions at the door when I go see the film. If the egg chamber is in a separate 'docking structure' below the derelict, then we have only seen 1% of the derelict on film. If the egg chamber is part of the ship, then the derelict is a cargo ship by design. In otherwords... Truck drivers in space applies to the space jockies as much as the human crew. Two cargo ships, two crews, different purposes.

That pic proves it look at the scale of Kane, then look at the scale of the ship versus the crew approaching. The "cave" is taller than the entire derelict from the outside. Not to mention the s curve it follows. Not even following the shape of the craft.

Keep in mind it's below the "control room" which does take up the the majority of space in the center of the craft. Especially now that we have the new images including the dome. Could just be a technical flaw, but I hope they explain it better.

This argument has been going on between fans for 33 years, rather than state my opinion lets look at the two points of the argument... 1. The Egg Chamber is part of the Derelict, because the Derelict is a bomber, of sorts (Ridley Scott - Alien DVD Commentary), used to transport the eggs to some unfortunate world (Earth?). 2. The Egg Cave is not part of the Derelict, because the size, scale and dimensions do not fit those of the Derelict. And then there are another two points regarding the acid-burnt hole that leads to the Egg Chamber/Cave... 1. Before, during or after the Derelict crashed one of the eggs opened, releasing a Facehugger which burnt a hole upward into the "Orrery" which them ambushed the Space Jockey who was unable to escape because he was fused to the chair, the resulting Alien is an Unknown Alien. 2. A Facehugger from "somewhere" ambushed the Space Jockey as above and the resulting Alien was a Queen Alien which then burnt a hole down into the Egg Chamber/Cave and laid all of the eggs. Now, lets use logic and deduction, a la Sherlock Holmes. The Queen Alien Theory does account for all the eggs in the Egg Chamber/Cave, but has more problems than solutions... 1. It doesn't support either of the two previous arguments (Egg Hamber/Cave), as in it eliminates the purpose of either as being used for the storage of the eggs. 2. It requires a Facehugger of unknown origin. 3. The hole to the Egg Chamber/Cave is too big for a Queen Alien, but could have been made by the Queen Chestburster. The Unknown Alien Theory on the other hand supports both of the previous arguments (Egg Chamber/Cave), and has an origin for the Facehugger used. Therefore the Unknown Alien Theory, having no problems and having concrete solutions is thus the favored theory. Now to the question of Egg Chamber or Egg Cave. The Egg Cave Theory does account for the dimensions of the area, and the protective layer of "blue laser-mist" covering the eggs can be explained away as a form preservation. But this theory does have one problem... 1. Purpose - Why is there a cave on a primordial planet filled with eggs. The Egg Chamber Theory however does account for "Purpose", the eggs are cargo/weapons even. And again the the protective layer of "blue laser-mist" covering the eggs can be explained away as both a form of preservation and monitoring (should the cargo escape). But this theory also has one problem... 1. Dimensions - The size and scale of the Egg Chamber does not seem to match up with that of the Derelict, although this could be explained away using the same principle of the TARDIS in Doctor Who. Because the problem with the Egg Chamber can be explained away, and the possibility of the "blue laser-mist" having multiple functions in the Egg Chamber Theory, this theory holds more weight than its opposition. Thus through the process of elimination we have a Derelict, piloted by a Space Jockey carrying a cargo of Alien eggs in the vessels Egg Chamber. One of which opens releasing a Facehugger which before, during or after the Derelict crashed on LV 426 ambushed the Space Jockey pilot, impregnating it with an Unknown Alien.

I stated the dimensional compression tech. above, seems like a cheap way out, though. Don't buy the queen idea, either. Simply because that hadn't been thought of yet. Seems more logical to me that it's a warehouse for bioweapons on a planet with no life. Thus no possibility of mass infection. That seems far more logical to me. That process of elimination was a bit scewed. Since it still didn't make sense.

@Snork - That was poetic... It... it was you... it was so wrong... YOU WROTE THE LEAKED SCRIPT! TYPOS WERE JUST TO THROW US FOR A LOOP! I KNEW IT! (BTW, whatever you all did to ban Ushbuck seemed to work. That guy is probably having a field day with that script.)

It makes sense, but now you've gone and buggered it up with another variable - you have eliminated the problem with Egg Cave theory with your idea... "...a warehouse for bioweapons on a planet with no life. Thus no possibility of mass infection." ...Now both the Egg Cave and Egg Chamber theories are essentially level with one another, as I would say the dimensional "manipulation" tech (as I would prefer to call it) is no more far fetched than a biomechanical weapon, fictionally speaking.

@ flacnvinyl - EH?!? Where have you gotten that idea from?

Hah, true that. Love all the theories. Not claiming to be the authority on it. Just what makes the most sense to me. Love Doctor Who by the way. Amy Pond versus Alien!! I'd watch that. Well, I guess I'd watch her read a phonebook too.

Ironic really. I was trying to use a process of logic, deduction and elimination to solve a 33 year old argument and surprise, surprise the argument remains unresolved. Ah well...

Glad someone besides me puts so much thought into figuring it out. Keep up the good work!!

Prometheus trailers: The alien space craft is found beneath the planets surface and then rises up through a giant portal; perhaps a whole civilization or base is present down there. In the trailer there are plinths organised in lines like eggs but with no eggs on them. Only a type of genetic ooze In Alien: the space jockey is described as having had his chest burst from within. Prometheus trailer: seems to show activity around the body of the SJ I would suggest that the xeno eggs are a direct result of the Prometheus crews DNA interacting with some sort of genetic ooze from the pinths on the Alien spacecraft Perhaps the SJ was going to put the genetic ooze on Earth to somehow effect our evolution...either accelerate our development or perhaps to cleanse our planet of humans. BUT the crew interact with the ooze whilst still on LV 426 and it all goes PETE TONG for both the crew & the SJ

Reading few hints and ideas above(good stuff) and trying to create my own scenario from it. My 2 cents would be that Derelict came to pick up some eggs from a bio-weapons cache, secure non habitat planetoid. Similar caches might be scattered all over the galaxy/universe. Too valuable and dangerous to be kept all in the same basket, eh? During loading process of the eggs, the pilot got "tripped to something, hit his head" (read screwd up someway not beeing cautious enough, paying attention enough etc.) and an egg felt off his hands. Or what ever used to carry em. It resulted that a facehugger got loose and got the pilot. Now the infected pilot jumped back into chair to either freeze himself during autopiloted homerun or to remove the parasite off him, but too late. Question is, where did the hatched Xeno go? Was it there all the time(hibernating?), even when Nostromo crew visited the Derelict and got infected too? In Aliens, the most of the xenos seemed to be in a sleep mode until marines came to wake em up in their nest. Maybe the alien waited Nostromo crew to get near the eggs and the rest would fall in its plan perfectly. As much aliens have logical plans anyway. ;) The Unknown alien did not follow the crew to Nostromo just because it felt need to guard rest of the eggs for later hosts? "You tell me man, im only working here"

What I'm impressed with is if in fact the egg chamber is within the derelict that all the eggs managed to remain in perfect formation despite experiencing a collision with the ground at terminal velocity. The secreted resin must be way stronger than super glue!!!
